I canned chicken before, itâs really handy for a quick dinner. I often make it into chicken salad or add to soup or pasta for a protein that takes zero cooking time. Ground beef was also super handy for making into taco meat, sloppy joes, pasta dishes and more!
You have a very healthy attitude!
I love the sound of the jars sealing. Such a satisfying sound!â€
Isn't it?!
Can you please try to grow a garden like bean sprouts, ginger, garlic, green onions, Thai Basil, Cilantro, rice, Thai peppers, tea, and Asian mint at your garden as a homesteader?
@@bradleydillman8244 we are growing ginger, garlic, green onions, Thai basil, cilantro, and Thai peppers! Tea is actually a potential crop weâll be working on cultivating to sell in the future!
@@calicocowacres What about rice, bean sprouts, and Asian mint?
@@bradleydillman8244 bean sprouts are something that gets grown on your counter indoors, not in the garden, but we do it occasionally. I'm not sure if we could grow rice but maybe we'll try eventually when we have the capacity, and I have no clue what asian mint is haha
@@calicocowacres What about Winter Melon, Winged Beans, and Longyard beans?
Beautiful bounty Mickayla
Would love to see your savage store hauls in the future!
Fantastic finds, processing & happy animals! You two are great achievers & I admire your ambition. Blessings to everyone đ€đšđŠ
My family was from the East Coast. We moved to Southern California when I was a baby. Because of weather concerns and earthquakes, we always had a lot food put up and in the freezer. I knew a Mormon family, and they had a years worth of food put up. They had theirs in actual cans, so they had this amazing pantry set-up. They had metal shoots that the cans were dropped from the top and had the oldest in the front. FIFO system. They had their food for loss of job, life changes, and other things. I guess what I am trying to say is to be prepared. We have no idea how things are going to play out. Inflation has been tough for most of America. BTW, I love your notebook and how you have it set up. As the years go by, it will be nice to sit down and look back to see your priorities at the time, how much you planted, the success rate, working on your home, land, and other thoughts. A visit down memory lane.
Raw milk was very popular in the 70s. I personally always thought the milk was delicious and seemed colder. Maybe it was the pure taste of the raw milk.
Awesome accomplishments! Blessings on your family and your growing season Kiddo! đ»đđżđđđ

Canned meat is great especially venison to make it into a gravy and have the meat gravy over mashed potatoes, one of my favorite meals my mom made as a young girl chicken for salads and chicken salad sandwich. You use your pressure canner and add the meet to jars and tsp salt for quart let it get to pressure cook 90 minutes other meats for shredded beef tacos etc. tons of uses đ
Liesa Sutton ,Suttons Daze, has great recipes for chicken you can .I did my first batch of chicken from her ugly chicken video. She also has beans how too .
Maybe this winter you can get your kitchen painted since you wonât need to work in the yard.
@@debbiebeckstead9268 Taylor is working on our joists right now. We canât finish our drywall until those are done, but hopefully weâll be starting that in the next couple months.
I love ALL Calico Cow Acres videos!
I'm SOOOOOO glad you told people to not stress about âdoingâ all the things! I get so mad at the interweb bullies telling folks they're wasteful because they don't utilize something in the way they might. And I mean âmightâ because most of the bullies are just flapping their lips anyway. So please, EVERYONE, stop letting anyone make you feel guilty about what you do or don't do for your family. Do your best and let them worry about their own stuff. You're doing what's best for you and that's all that matters. God bless you ALL!!! đ
@@lisabooker6405 yes! Weâre all doing the best with what weâve got: effort, skills, money, time, and so on. It probably saved me 2+ hours not doing another project with those corn cobs. And saved me jars for things I actually need to can. And my chickens were stoked for the snacks! I was able to clean up and not wake up to a kitchen filled with dirty dishes to deal with the next morning & that was worth it to međ maybe someday Iâll take the time to make more corn cob jelly, but this year isnât the year for me to put extra on my plate.
@@calicocowacres And that my dear is EXACTLY what being a good homesteader/homemaker is, knowing what you need and want and then doing your best to make it happen. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don't. What matters is doing the best we can with what God gives us (is MY belief). I absolutely LOVE seeing someone as young as you and your husband (I could be your grandmother lol đ) doing such AMAZING things. Working hard, doing your best to make a good life for yourself. It's beautiful. Keep at it, sweetheart. I will keep you both in my prayers. God bless you. ~Lisa
What an awesome haul of produce! I totally agree with you about bread and butter pickles!! I canned them for the first time last year and I love them. I've got 12 pints canned so far this year, but if I get more cucumbers, I will make some more.

Wow, pressure canning! Ive never done it but i want to. Any tips or tricks one shoukd know?
@@mumstheword8 my biggest tip is to do it even if youâre scared. It was only scary to me the first 2 times & nothing exploded so now it feels very straightforward đ and order the jiggly weight to put on top of the steam valve so you can listen & not babysit the gauge!
I like your attitude towards the corn cobsđ„
I agree with you about bread and butter pickles! They are the best kind! I also use the same brine recipe for pickling asparagus. I canât say I share your enthusiasm for the smell of sweet corn in the canner, though. I find it quite unpleasant. However, I do enjoy the finished product! I hope you find a recipe for baked beans you like. Most recipes Iâve found call for way more sugar than seems necessary. One of my friends makes baked beans in her roaster with six cups of dry beans, and seven cups of sugar! They are delicious, but thatâs way too much sugar!
If you still have some around, you should chuck the cobs in the freezer and dole them out to the chickens on the hot days.
@@somewherreinmaine oh thatâs a great idea! I usually give them watermelon frisbees but Iâll definitely have to give them some chilly corn on the cob sometimeđ
Love the sound of the popping lids at the end of the video!

When you can your sloppy Joe sauce, do you can it with the meat or add the meat when you eat it. Iâm thinking of canning some but undecided on which way to go.

Your garden looks amazing mickayla and its really coming along your flowers look amazing and maybe next year after you amend the soil in the cottage garden grow some cut flowers there and buy a bare root rose bush if you can find one with a reasonable price it will add that pop.of colour for the cottage garden and see if you can find a bare root grapevine or two from a local farmer in your area and grow that so you can try to make your own wine with one and eat the other I am muslim but I am interested in growing my own grape vine and I have done research on diffrent grapevines and they say that wine making grapes can be quite tart if you were to eat them and the ones you want to eat are quite sweet I live in a city and no where near a farm but I look on line for my grapevine choices so as of now I am undecided about which I want to eat since my religion prohibits we drink alcohol but I hope you find a grapevine specialist and they help you decide on which one you want to grow đ
