Looking good Joe. Was that a DR stump grinder in the plot? I have one and have ground several hundred stumps with it. It eats through pine very easily. Maple are a little tougher. I’m having 50 acres of mature white pine cut at some point. There’s going to be a mess if tops with those. I need to discuss with the forester a plan on what’s being left and what’s being chipped.

I had our pines thinned last summer. I am very excited to see what new growth we will have this year. I also had a 1 acre clearing made for a food plot/pond. The slash left behind from that is a big job to clean up.

Are they going to clean up any of the slash and tops left or will they leave them as is??

Good ideas except wish you wouldn't promote spraying poison that is harmful to wildlife and humans. Lets work to get rid of cancer and other ailments caused by spraying during our lifetime.

Nice looking set up Joe! I have a nearly identical set up to this. It has attracted lots of small bucks but no mature bucks yet. It works well for getting in and out and getting up close, so it's just a matter of time.... Congrats on getting a real nice buck!

What will you plant?

Are you saying that if your soil sample results call for 100lbs of Nitrogen per acre for example... and all you have is 46-0-0 Urea. That you'll actually spread 200+lbs of that product to achieve that number on 1 acre?? Man that doesn't seem right...

Joe, any update on the Miscanthus? I planted about 100 Rhyzomes in Northern WI this past spring. Growing like weeds now. Just curious how they will winter.

I’m thinking that I will spray glyphosate immediately after seeding in about one more week. Our frost date is about October 16 so August 16 or thereabouts should be about the right time for me to plant fall crops.

I got all my plots planted last Friday and they are all ready popping like crazy! This most recent rain is gonna be great for giving um a nice jump start! On my brassicas I'll go out 2-3 weeks after planting and spread a bunch of urea, do you do that as well?

I've done this for years and with all these crazy prices with gas, airfares, food and even lodging I have to charge so much I feel bad about charging that kind of price so taking a break. Do you know or heard of Dr Grant Woods or Jeff Sturgis? They both have classes and if not interested in going but very good seminars. They make good videos on hear also. I do like Jeff's better because of the scrape, water hole, no till and hinge cutting also most times controlled burns isn't the best method to or for most clients.

I bet that buckwheat did grow. I do 2 buckwheat plantings through summer to build up my soil then Inter seed my fall seeds right into and knock it over then hit it with roundup. Works amazing.

This is a great video. I'm going 100% organic this year and my plots are looking amazing. You need to watch some of garden like a Viking. He shows how 2 make all the amazing fertilizers we need for our plots. Urine, fish, ash, weeds, I will tell you some smell kinda bad but after 24 hours the deer are back in the fields. I saved allot of $ and it's working great. He makes it so you can spray it with a sprayer. With his weed fertilizer I recommend using alfalfa or nettles they both are very high in nitrogen. Glad 2 see you going organic.

I'm not going to tell you and I'm not being that negative guy posting bad stuff about anything. I need to tell you and I could care less if you listen or not. Brasicas and winter rye should not be mixed. The winter rye will dramatically cut down your brasica growth. Another reason I'm telling you is because of the planting dates and your seed provider should have told you about it. Brasicas get planted around August 1st winter rye Labor day weekend well depending on rain. To really make it work good for you half brasica half winter rye. I honestly think your the if it germinate s fast it won't be palatable anymore when you need it to be during season they won't hit it after it gets too tall. All I'm doing is trying to help you out. U have a great looking plot I like that it's not just a square so they can't see the whole field make the bucks look for the does and the does won't be able too see each other and want to fight each other
