A very interesting take on the SFI ,just a question though, the legume fallow is only an annual option this year, do you factor in your rotation a three year fallow?

Another information packed update, nice one. I like how the SFI options on your farm at least are still letting you farm exclusively for good production as you should be able to in truth. Many of the options are seemingly a perfect fit for your farm business and will in time build your soils, sales and wildlife on the farm. Great video Ben. Even as a direct driller I wont be signing up for that as too restrictive in a year like this when spring seedbeds needed a tickle. Must look at various rate as I can do it but don't use P&K so can I have the maps and apply zero or am I paid on what I apply thus being incentivised to use more!!!

Something I hope to see many more farmers and landowners do whenever they can. Good job for the farm, your cropped lands, and your farm will in time will see an uplift in biodiversity too. What no comments? I am a bit behind on catching up with your fascinating updates. I think integrating livestock into arable systems is a great benefit to biodiversity (above and below ground) and the environment as a whole. Hopefully in time, your soils will grow and yield better crops and you’ll produce healthier food stuffs to boot, boosting the wildlife on farm as you go along. Best wishes, Tony and I will be back.

Ben you could try what I've seen the Americans do (here on youtube); push a metal pipe through with a chain/wire rope attached, with a car tyre attached to it and pull it through. Seems to work well for them.

I assume youre in a mainly tillage area , but could these work being harvested at higher moisture and then made into prop corn or alkalage or something for feeding to livestock? Would give you the field back a couple weeks early to ..

Even the mistakes with the vetch will tell you stuff come harvest - it more visual than clearly defined yeilds , but often mistakes are what point you in the right direction

Would it be worth either sowing at different times or at least different way , so maybe broadcasting brassica seeds ? ( electric spinner on the back of the drill ? )

Also , are you putting in a cover crop over winter? And does that complicate the rotation

Do the beans stop the oats going over ? Whats the cereal for ? Continous cereal ? Well done ..

Bit of a faff by the looks of it, especially on multiple field scale but the weather this year possibly hasn't helped. Are you aiming to get it cleaned as soon as possible?

Difficult to get all growth same, maybe spacing too close. Inter weeding would help get rid of trash.

Difficult season with late rain causing secondary tillers and the crops not senescing as they normally would. Great effort by you both to do that work.

Another NH spout 2 feet to short so trailer runs on the row, why? On a brighter note, enjoyed that, finished wheat here today. Gleam seriously lodged but yielded well apart from where rabbits graze, where the pigeons had stripped the laid and where the badgers used it as a playground, oh and a fox run 😫

Thank you for saying what the crop is and where it is. It is infuriating when similar sites don't think to mention either.
