    Why in the world did you take the sidewalk at Schrock Road? There are bike lanes available, and if you had taken the left fork, you would have gone under Schrock Road and remained on the trail.

    I assume that the section that you called "gravel" is NOT gravel, but is stone dust. I don't know why cyclists use words tat they don't know the meaning of. [Bicycle company marketeers - who want to convince everybody that anything not paved is gravel and, thus, everybody needs to buy a "gravel" bike?] Gravel is thumb-sized stones mixed with sand. [There is also "pea grvavel", which has pea-sized stones.] I have never seen a bicycle trail with gravel.

    This is the most honest and realistic video I have watched regarding the C&O. I have biked the C&O towpath many times. However, I have not been on it for about fifteen years. Sustained some debilitating injuries while a public servant. Doctors now telling me to start biking again to help my injured joints maintain mobility as I age. Go figure right ?! When I was touring panniers were the go to. Are the Blackburn cages still working for you ? Can you attach stuff sack, dry bags etc on them ? I certainly would appreciate any advice. My wife and I are planning a September adventure on the C&O, if we don’t opt for the GAP instead. Thanks again for the video.

    When are walkers on shared trails going to understand that walking on the left FACING bike traffic is much safer than having bikes approaching you from behind where you cannot see them and often can't hear them?

    I rode this trail from north to south earlier this year and most of it was nice but the parts in the Amish areas were absolutely ruined by the horse crap. It was raining that day too so it was disgusting. I'm wondering if they could install some kind of high frequency audio device that might help keep horses off the trail or else install ballards in the middle so they can't fit the buggys through. I just can't believe that they're so ignorant as to not only bring an unpredictable animal on the trail but not even pick up the crap. I also would recommend if you have the time checking out the Easton Town Square near Columbus, not far off the trail. Part indoor mall and part lifestyle center, they got many fine fragrances to help you forget the Amish nightmare section of the trail.

    I first rode the Mickelson trail as part of a cross continent bicycle tour 5 years ago. Got on the trail in Custer and headed north. In just the first few miles I was simply in awe of the rocky formations near Crazy Horse memorial. The trail takes you away from major roads, and often any roads at all! It's a uniquely intimate experience.

    Very misleading, this is not a bike route, last summer I rode from Vermont to Montreal, Quebec, Plattsburgh down to NYC, the worst most dangerous part is south of Plattsburgh for around 15o miles, This so called Empire trail is nothing more than them putting up signs on many main roads, it's not meant for bikes, Canada has real bike trails, the Erie canal is good, this is terrible and that's coming from a person that bikes plenty just like most of "East Coast Greenway" all they did is put up a route that anyone could have, 90% is on roads with very little cycle way, very dangerous & should be told for experience bikers & even then dangerous because of drivers

    • @Peter-rp3zs
      @Peter-rp3zs Před měsícem

      Hello-- when you took the portion of the 'Empire Trail from Albany down to New York City last summer, did the on-road portions of this segment feel dangerous traffic-wise to you as well? Based on the Empire Trail's website, it looks like most of this segment is off-road trail, but there is still some on-road riding. I am looking at taking the 'trail' from New York City to Buffalo, but only if it's safe. I've done a lot of riding, with 12 miles of a Key West to Maine ride requiring that I walk my bike on the side of the road to avoid getting flattened by trucks. I would like to be able to ride from Rouses Point, NY to NYC, but won't do it given the amount of on-road riding, some of which appears to be dangerous roads (from traffic)

    Easch of the Amish's horseys has a name! I wont listen to bossey people no matter how well intentioned. When I want something or anything from another adult, today I simply ask that person! Telling anyone what to do when they are grown just wont work. I wear my helment also. When it gets dark try riding some of the trail then. i never had the money for any hotel at all! Just carried enough for some food. I get hungry. i have on the instant pot right now, beans, and brown rice and dried veggies. Some spices too. I peddled from 11 years old, to 65 years old. My left hip is going out on me been disabled over 49 years too. Paul in Ohio This is me I prefer to let others know what we can do instead of all the stuff we should not do. Positive stuff!

    • @NobleInventionBikeTouring
      @NobleInventionBikeTouring Před 4 měsíci

      28mm are going to be ok in my opinion, but it ultimately is down to rider comfort and skill, and the load on the bike. If you can go wider, it gives you a bit more stability and comfort. I must have missed on the graphic, but either are ok. Thanks for the question!
