Woodturning: Hollowform with Woodcut Pro-Forme tools
Making an elm hollowform with Woodcut Pro-Forme tools!
This is absolutely one of my favorites things: making hollowform vases! And i just bought this awesome Woodcut Pro-Forme hollowing system and it is by far the best I've tried. It's super stable, high quality and just super effective.. And super expensive, but whatever. You get what you pay for. That's just how it is. Turning this vessel on my Killinger 1450SE woodturning lathe.
Recently, I got a few nice elm logs (Ulmus glabra) and thought it would be about time to make a bigger vessel. Elm is really unforgiving.. You make tool handles of this and it's hard! It's also tough as it's fed up with silica that is hard on the tools. They need sharpening waaay more than the usual trees I work with. And this took me a full day.. Haha, as you can see in the end, I struggle to keep the tool steady, because of the distance from the tool rest to the tip of the tool. There's so much tension and power that you'll end up beaten if you aren't focusing.
Now this piece needs to dry for 4-6 weeks.

Spooncarving: sourcing spoon blanks with hand tools in the forest
zhlédnutí 5KPřed 3 lety
Sourcing some birch spoon blanks in the forest. Woodworking, bushcraft, slow living and maker movement! One thing I really like about slöjd and traditional crafts is that you (mostly) get your material from your surroundings. This is a small forest very close to where I live. So why not go out and do some exercise/manual labor, sawing, axing and carrying logs and blanks around like there was no...

Mindful spooncarving in a lovely Danish cottage at the coast. Hygge and slow living! What's better than taking a few days off with your lovely wife and kids, to a beautifully located cottage at the sea? Yeah, you're absolutely right.. Green woodworking, slöjd, carving a spoon at that place. I brought my carving kit and a few roughed out spoon in maple. Carved this while the kids were out playin...

Jonas, I feel like I'm late to your video you having made and posted this over 3 years ago. I do hope you are still carving and maintaining this channel since you have produced an excellent tutorial on curved blade sharpening. I have several curved spoon blades in need of sharpening and I've acquired everything you mention in the video to give it a go myself. I have a question about the material you have used to cover the round dowel that you used to remove the wire edge on the inside of the blade at about 19:30 in your video. Is that also smooth leather with a polishing compound applied? I would appreciate any replies from you or your community if anyone is so inclined and has the time to entertain a very old man trying to make use of his spare time in retirement. Thank you!
of course you can use scissors...
i've been using tormek for 30 odd years and sharpen with the stone turning AGAINST the edge like here, yes, be careful! but it seems to be the best way - and remember never to take off more steel than absolutely necessary and always make sure the stone is flat!
Nice video, thanks for all the information. What sort of bevel angle to you aim for on these knives? I know it is convex and you are doing it by hand, but I’m worried when I sharpen hook knives that I am rounding it a bit too much. Knowing approximately how much to angle the sandpaper would be a great help! Thanks !
Is there more stones you need or is there only 1
Do you use a Svante Djarv axe?
What stone did you put on at the end
In my opinion, you will get maximum sharpening results if you use liquid oil instead of water
.
Wait, someone actually cutting an edible item after sharpening the knife? What sorcery is this
amazing sharpening work. Thanks for sharing and God Bless.
Omg you chipping the knife made me tense up SO BAD
When you describe maple green do you mean it is freshly cut sapwood?
All freshly cut, using both heart and sap 💪🏻
@@formgjortbyJonasAls Thank you
beautiful work. you make it look so easy. i'd clamp the piece of wood to the desk cause i'd probably cut my fingers off using that tool you used in the beginning.
Gracias. Excelente vídeo.
Awesome shirt where do I get one? lol
Hello 🙂 This one is 6-7 years old I think, so I’m not sure it’s possible to find. But contact MoraKniv and ask.. they might have something in stock. They are pretty nice.
Lấy dao cạo râu cho uy tín , cu cháu
Great video, I have a T8, 2 questions, how come you didn't use the red marker on the blade first? And you didn't stropp the knife?
Hello Raymond Thanks for the question. Well, I think I decided to set the angle at 22 degrees (2 x 14, if I remember correctly), and from that proceeded. And next, you don’t have to strop after using the Japanese stone, as it is way more fine than the honing paste. Among a few things I did wrong in this video years ago, I used way too much much time on sharpening it, and I now know that when sharpening with a Tormek, you have to do the following: 5-10 continuous passes each on each side, then followed by 5-10 strokes one side at the time (switching side every single pass), and so you keep minimising the burr until it brakes off leaving a super razor sharp edge. Does that make sense?
do this have a 20 degree for a knife
Nice, but some comments should have been welcomed ;-)
He bought a new one when he should have washed it in Champagne
That looks awsome! Im gonna try and make one👍🏻 tak for inspirationen.

I am just getting into making knives, my Dad always used to use a wet stone hence I have bought one, however what was the device you used to measure the angle?
Jonas, make 2 stopcuts, one above the other.
Danke für die Demonstration. Haben Sie auch ein Video in dem Sie Beavercraft, Mora, Robin Wood und Nick Westermann vergleichen
Drawknife from Mora? I saw that it does pleasant job! Is it worth buying?
No commentary on what exactly you’re doing. Grits? Etc.

1000 Euro worth of equipment just o sharpening knives! This sounds like a business!
Do you need to sharpen other tools than knives, perhaps?
Thanks!
WOW! Thank you!
You’re welcome!
well done. I noticed you used the small jig for the knife. Any reason why? I'm new to Tormek-got my machine last week. Serious learning curve!
Would you suggest a more open hook knife for a beginner? Ive got one like the one shown around the 3 min mark.
❤
Excelente video..!!
