Is their a work around to set the clock for Maschine 3 without having to lose one channel? Did you not say it was clocked with Midi?
The problem arises if you stop all channels on the RC-505, when you restart if you are not precise you can skip 1/2 a beat. Keep a master loop going and you will never be out of time with stop/starts. Or if you want to keep the MK3 only playing that spare channel keeps it running, and when you RC loops come back in, it's in perfect sync!
@@FKeyPianoMan OK. Thank you.
You sir are a legend and i would love to jam with you
Thank you Mark! Jams are fun!!
Tnx for a great video. Is it by any chance possible to add a midi keyboard into the MC-707 and still running the rc-505 mk2 as a master?
Yes, but you will need midi merger box to plug in both keys and RC505, as MC707 has 1 midi input
Thanks for your great tutorials and demos my guy, awesome work! Keep it up 🙏🏼
Thank you Stella 💛💚💙
Good information my Friend.... Thanx!
My pleasure
Thank You ,Thank You
You are very welcome
I don't think the vocals should be represented with every chord change...sounds like one of those a-cappella bands. Maybe you should've used the key-split function to control the vocal harmony?
Thanks for your feedback. Personally I do like the a cappella band vibe on this one.
Great, Music created without DAW 😊
Thanks! Lots more stuff like this in the pipework!
Please help me!!I I somehow put effects on my music that I'm playing form my phone, its linked to the input FX, on the left so now if i put reverb on my voice it also does it to the track, i want it on the right with the track FX. How do i do that?? Got a gig tmrw
You will need to look in menu at input routing and make sure that input is going straight to master output

Hi, i dont suppose you know how to connect two rc-505 mk2s together and get sound out of both of them at all please?
Connect them Via Midi Out to Midi In. The midi out unit will be the master. You will need a sound mixer to plug audio from both into, and then to your speaker. To be honest if your learning, start with one Loopstation, get really good at it, then buy a 2nd one. Goodluck
Thanks so much for the reply, appreciate it a lot, sorted the audio issue out now, its my brothers loop stations and he managed to sort it himself
Hey @fkeypianoman, thanks for a great video! I've been looping with the rc 505 mk2 for about 5 months and am needing to set up exactly what you've got going here (and want to do so without ableton). I'm considering the Maschine, but see they no longer sell the Jam. What's your current set-up? Are there other ways to achieve this? I need to be able to trigger many additional layers and pre-recorded basslines/ other melodies as a someone who's travelling a lot. (Is it possible to achieve this in logic pro?)
Hi. I have a jam i no longer use, and happy to sell ir. What country you in? Checkout my latest vid to see my current setup. And if your using Logic, you have to bring along a laptop.at which point any midi trigger pads wiuld do what you need. Good luck
Awesome video, mate! Im curious... how do you sync the tempo between your drum machine and looper ?
Midi clock. Midi out from RC-505 into drum machine (drum machine needs to be in midi slave mode)
I just found your channel and you have amazing tips and performances! I have a couple of questions: 1) What do you use to put all your stuff above the keyboard? You just put a piece of wood in the top part of the keyboard stand? 2) How do you connect the Zoom to record your performances? Directly to the output of the mixer and then from the zoom to the PA system? 3) Do you recommend another drum machine that's under 500 USD? 4) What brand is your PA system, and does it runs on batteries?
Thank you. 1- plank of wood 2- Out of the mixer 3-You could look at Novation. Not sure of prices though. Or go second hand. 4- I use JBL, and no not battery powered. Good luck
Thanks for the video, super helpful! But there is one important point I could not catch. So the connection from Loopstation and Groovebox into your mixer has to be via TRS right? (Does TS work as well? Does it make any difference? ). Also from your mixer into PA you use XLR, can you use TRS instead? (or again does TS work? Does it make any difference?).
Sorry one more question. Im using an effects board for my guitar. So Guitar goes into Effects Board with TS. Then Effects board goes into Boss RC505 intsrument 1 slot left and right with TS. Should I use TRS for the second connection? Does it make any difference?
TS works just fine. Where an XLR option is available it is preferable to me, as that cable has better shielding against noise.
Again TS is just fine.
@@FKeyPianoMan Understood. Thanks a lot! with everything being ts, Im having some buzz time to time. I could look for an upgrade to TRS then I guess.
House Anthemn was nice remake!
Thanks
Yea, I have try to do this same, its hard to keep it interesting and makes fills and tension. But its live, well done!
Yes, thats the challenge!!! I will be adding a Pioneer RMX1000 soon to help create more fills and tensions as I build up loops!
Novice question but can someone get started looping vocal/piano/percussion simply with the rc505, a mic and a regular keyboard (which has drum fx)? There is no need for laptop/synth/controllersoftware etc??
Absolutely. Keeping it simple is the best way to start and learn.
I wish I came across this video last year when I bought this!! i went months without using it and now thanks to you bro i’m back!!! Thank you!!
Glad it helped! 😁
Do you know if the Perform VE can put the effects just on the mic without the use of the midi???
Absolutely! Midi controls are a bonus for the harmoniser functions. If you want harmonies but don't plan on using midi, then there are other Perform range vocal effects that might better suit you, check out the Perform VK, and there is I think 2 other options in that range,
thx for the hum destroyer tipp
You're welcome!

Супер !
Thank you
Very cool performance!!!
Thanks for the video...one question, why do you recommend mono out and then you use a stereo out?
I run through 2 different setups. Want to keep it simple (Mono) or stereo if happy to add a bit more cables, gear and sonic options. I still use both options depending on the sort of gig, setup and what i want to achieve on the day
Very cool Mr. Piano Man 🎶👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Hi, if my midi controller only has a usb output, how can I connect it to this perform ve midi input?
USB to midi cable. Might also need an adapter for the 2 different USB connections. Ebay should be able to help you out
So organized and helpful! Thank you! I also use the Perform-VE and RC505 looper + a Roland keyboard in my setup, and am at the point of wanting to add a DI to the Perform-VE (because the signal out is HOT HOT HOT) and getting myself a mixer & drum machine. I appreciate you!
Glad it helped! I recommend the MC-707 groovebox for a drum machine if you can afford it. Having fader control on each channel is really helpful!
@@FKeyPianoMan I considered it but the size and price are daunting! I'm looking at the Roland MC101 as an alternative... Although it's also oddly fun to limit myself to the inbuilt beats and kits on the 505 looper and the Perform-VE vox box (I use those two tiny drum pads to record from the vox box to the looper -- it's a very basic sound but that's kind of what I like about it!) And I sometimes use the inbuilt rhythms on the 505. Again, super basic, dry, and mechanical in sound quality but it lets me get ideas out quickly (I have WAY more ideas than I do patience to twiddle with fiddly gear or menu-dive). Still... I'm tempted by the compactness and range of the MC101. We shall see! I try hard not to acquire new gear so I'm forced to push my existing rig to the max. You're the first person I've found with a very similar setup to mine, which is refreshing! Your keyboard soloing chops are 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Hi, I'm new to looping. I have the RC-505 MkII. I've noticed that when I record loops with an instrument through a microphone (lets say percussion or vocals), the microphone will then pick up the pre-recorded loops through the speakers while I'm recording a new loop over everything but on a new channel track. Even with the speakers facing away from the mic, it still picks it up. There are times when I want to isolate the mic recorded track during playback, but its disappointing when I hear other sounds that it picked up by the speakers, if that makes sense. Is there a way around this? Perhaps I am not using the correct microphone?
Don't use a super sensitive instrument mic. Maybe something like a Shure SM58, but you will always get some bleed from the speakers. Try recording the more sensitive parts first over a lighter sounding loop, or simply drop down the volume of the background loop while you record. Or get some in ear monitors, so you dont have speaker music going into your microphone
Hi thanks for this video. I want somthing straight outa the box to start looping. What machine would I be looking for? Basically I just want one keboard that can loop. Do they make those? I dont want to carry a many things. Thanks for your help.
HI Kelly, Akai MPC have released a small keyboard, that has some looping capabilities. But it is not designed primarily as a looper, more of a production workstation. For me the RC-505 Loopstation is the best for any keyboards player, You can also get a pedal looper like the RC600 or the new Sheeran Looper, but again, best options for keyboardists is a tabletop looper, so you can access all the extra functions / tricks that come with a loopstation. Good luck
Hi thanks for writing me back. Almost no one does when I have questions lol So are you saying that with the AKAI, when it comes to looping is it just that you do a sequence and then press a button and it loops? like what is the purpose of a loop station? It just offers more sounds like you said? Sorry, Im very new. I havent even touched a synth of midi keyboard in my life. Im studying first before im able to purchase one. I just would like the most minimal set up (for now) but get what I need to do live looping. As well as it being portable. Not having to use wall plugs but STILL having the option. thanks again. I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to speak with me. -Kelly @@FKeyPianoMan
@@KellyLearnsToWait Not familiar with the new AKAI MPC Key 36 features. You will have to do the research (check out some tutorials) to see if it works for what you want. Or get an old 2nd hand keyboard and a RC-505 Mk1 to start learning. Good luck!
Thanks for the quick and clear breakdown of DAW vs. DAWless. That made a lot of sense with no nonsense!
Glad it helped! Thanks
Jea man I take off my hat for you Rock the microphone :D Crazy people make the world shine brighter :)
Thank you, much appreciated.
hello..and then it's impossible harmonize my voice using harmonize effect while a guitar is put in mkII playing chords?
i'm not sure if I am understanding your question correctly. Can the RC505 harmonize? It's not really built for that. You need a dedicated vocal harmonizer unit.
I think this should be a future implementation. TC Voicelive touch 2 had 15 years ago this for example.@@FKeyPianoMan
i really needed this thank you!
You're so welcome!
Can a DAW reduce the hardware you need? Seems to be getting exponentially techy, can be a mood killer.
I'd say both are similar in amount of gear required at this point. Adding a DAW also requires a steep learning curve to get to the same functionality a hardware loop setup offers almost instantly. But the more intricate you get the more a DAW becomes the preferred option, and the possibilities become endless!
Fantastic and very helpful. Thank you.
So glad it helped!
I have the RD 2000 and RC 505 as well, and I'm wondering, do you use the RD 2000 also as a midi controller for the 505? I'm trying to figured out how to map the faders and knobs to the RC 505.
Hi John. Interesting idea. Haven’t seen anyone do it. I don’t connect midi from the keys to the Loopstation. If anything I would do it in reverse, so the RC505 sends midi clock to RD2000 for tempo synced delay effects. Good luck
@@FKeyPianoMan gotcha. My intention was to map the knobs and faders on the RD 2000 to FX and levels on the 505 to have extra controls. I know in the assign function the 2000 sends MIDI out and I can see the CC numbers, but it's just not communicating with the 505. I'll keep tinkering!
this is so sick absolute respect for doing this live
Thanks so much!
that was great man, even nailed the rapping.
Thank you dream fountain
Super helpful, I have the mark II 505 and the cabling set up diagrams you showed helped me a lot, thank you!
Glad it was of help!
Nice work my man. Nice to see a keyboard player looping. What you using the tablet for - lyrics /chords, etc?
Thanks. Top tablet has lyrics and settings info for each song. Tempo, instruments, looping order, groovebox settings. And I have another tablet on the side with some extra samples to trigger here and there
I've got a similar set up with an external groove box. Do you set your loop measures to that of the groove box or do you not run into any issues. I seem to be having issues with the syncing and wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong. I'm relatively new to the RC505 and trying to get all the setting right. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks Steve. The RC-505 has to be the master. sync goes out of whack otherwise. So I usually leave one track free on the RC-505. That is my clock track. If I want to to turn off all other loops but keep the drum machine going, then I keep that free track playing. Also good to keep it playing when stopping and starting loops on your RC-505. That keeps the drum track playing consistently. I also found that the RC505 MkII loops playback in time with the groovebox, whereas the RC505 MkI loops seemed to playback with a small latency.
@@FKeyPianoMan Thanks for that. I'll give it a try.
Great to see you link all stuff. I am using a juno in sync. But also thinking of buyinh the mc 101 for the beat.
Not sure if the rc505 had balance outputs, but your yamaha mixer should have. I think a better mixer will also be safer next time. Maybe a single loop pedal could also be a safe option to have as back up p
Good tips!! Thanks
