Whatever your opinion about who is better, can we all agree that both BOdom and Wintersun are better than 99% of all the other crap out there

The difference for me is the ability to actually play what you record in studio live. Jari (when he played guitar live) was almost perfect every single time. Alexi was NEVER able to do that. He was fucking lazy and drunk 24/7. Could have been on Jari's level if it weren't for that simple fact.

Jari is untouchable when it comes to the musicality, originality and technicality BUT Alexi embodies rock n roll.

i like jaris solos more but alexi is more skilled because jari had 15 years to make the songs and alexi has had 1 or 2 years to make them and there already that insane. so if alexi too had 15 years i would think that alexi wouldve make much better solos than wintersun.

Winter Madness and Kissing the shadows truly are the masterpieces of guitar solos.

Both are amazing.. But Alexi for me all the way! He even sing when he did meny solos. thats pretty rare!

Alexi's solo on Sinergy's I Spit On Your Grave is a masterpiece. I liked him with COB but it wasn't his best work.

Cant deny the guitar gods in Jari, but im all into Alexi melodies..Ton of guitarist sounds similar to Jari, nobody else sounds like Alexi.

Jari solos impress me with their technicality, but to me they often kinda 'overplayed', sometimes they get too chaotic and complicated, still clean, precise and melodic, though. Alexi solos just make me close my eyes, headbang and enjoy their easy-going, badass yet melodic feeling. When I hear Alexi solo my inner guitarplayer mostly rests and chill, but listener enjoy every second of his shredding. Alexi for me!

I prefer alexi. Although some of the wintersun solos are pure magic

Alexi is the winner, not only of his compositions in COB or Sinergy, it is because he plays with more feeling and his style is unique, with more feeling than any other guitarist. Alexi has been the best metal guitarist ever.

I honestly can't choose one over the other. They're both great and sound very close but in their own unique way of course. Both have very good musicianship

For guitarists I go for what sounds good vs what's fastest or most technical, and COB is my shit, but winterson guitarist does sound faster for sure.

Alexi Laiho without a shadow of a doubt! Specially that DeadNight Warrior solo👹 Alexi solos are based on very mastering of Musical laws & techniques.

Jari 100%. Alexi Laiho is an incredibly talented guitar player, but Jari has an almost alien level of skill that probably <0.01% of guitarists have. I personally sometimes sense a hint of apathy from Laiho concerning his guitar playing, but maybe that's just borne of exhaustion from 2 decades of almost nonstop touring and writing. Jari however seems to be almost completely one with his instrument when he plays. You can tell the guy practices his arse off. The solo from "Winter Madness" alone is probably in the top 10 of greatest, most technical guitar solos ever written and performed.

Both bad ass! But comparing them is like saying Chevy is better than Ford or vice versa. It's a matter of taste, not technicality

I like Alexi more. He has more nuance in his playing and he's more consistent when it comes to producing material for a release. Jari is great and so is wintersun, but I have 9 Bodom albums that I love vs 1.5 wintersun albums. Time doesn't count as a full album for me. It only has 3 songs on it and forest seasons kinda sucked. Maybe if I count the two ensiferum albums Jari is on it goes to 3.5. As far as soloing goes, Jari wins for speed but I swear Alexi has much more personality in his solo style so for me it's Alexi hands down.

These are my two favourite bands - I much prefer Alexi for his compositions, riffs and melodies (he is my favourite guitarist) but the solos Jari creates, event though Alexi's are amazing, are incredible. They combine such strong feeling and shredding.

Jari's guitar solos are majestic storm. Alexi's solos are aggressive fever.

So, we're talking about shredding and sweep picking here.. To me, Wintersun beats Children of Bodom in their average songs... but when it comes to their most elaborate solos, i.e. the last round (Winter madness vs Kissing the Shadows), they're both equally awesome!

All I'm gonna say is thank you, Finland.

Will someone tell us who is technically a better player, without all this "omg, this one composes better, this one's new music sucks". Someone who actually plays guitar.
