You don't need a tiller to start a garden. While tilling can be beneficial in certain situations, such as breaking up compacted soil or incorporating amendments, it's not necessary for starting a garden. Plus, people have been practicing some form of gardening for thousands of years while the modern rotary tiller was only invented in 1912. Silage tarp: growhoss.com/products/silage-tarp?variant=...

    Thank you so much for this video and all your painful experience! I also want to thank everyone for their experiential sharing. I used it all!!! I had wasps in my wood shed area. I also had straw stored there. Wood & straw are on pallets. A couple months ago, I noticed that there were wasps nesting in there. But with the straw all in there, I didn't know exactly where their nest was. So with wishful thinking, I hoped it would just resolve itself... Surprise, wishful thinking didn't work. Yesterday, when I put some pine shaving bails in the shed, the wasps chased after me when I was leaving and stung me twice. War on!! I was looking for another video that I found the idea of Dawn mixed in a spray bottle with peppermint essential oil, when I fell upon this video. This is what I did: I carefully removed as much straw as I could. I had the spray bottle with me and used it a few times. I identified the general location and prepared. I got screen netting, a 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled in it, Dawn soap mixed with water and the hose. Then I waited until 1am in the morning. I went out with a headlight and my beesuit jacket (grateful I had that!). I carefully removed the remaining straw and then immediately put down the screen and put the bucket down and poured the Dawn/water solution and hosed water in bucket. The entire time there were a few wasps flying around my face. I didn't see any movement from the nest. I then put wood around to hold the screen down. In the morning, crickets, nothing. Later in the morning I saw maybe a wasp moving and I knew it was time for the boiling water!! I will continue monitoring and pouring boiling water for the next few days before I remove the screen and clean up the mess. Thanks again everyone!!! I won, ha!

    My advice: Work out, 4-5 times a week. Get your pulse above 130 for at least an hour 2-3 times a week and also lift weights. I know this is hard (I've been there), but it will improve your mental health massively, you will lose weight and you will face the challenges of life like a pro. This approach basically saved my own life...

    Figuring out what's important to you and centering that, is worthwhile Rant incoming The most important work in my life has been, becoming aware of my values, live in alignment with them, finding and investing in community with those same values. Figuring out, what beliefs do I have, that I'm willing to truly stand up for. Listening to people with vastly different life circumstances and experiences than myself. And learning how to ask for help. If you can ask for help, you can do anything. In a hyper-individualistic society, it's rarely a skill we get automatically. I'd encourage anyone to work on asking for help. I'm still practicing. But, it's what'll make your life sustainable, whether you're high or low. And it's the foundation of community. Helping each other. Being vulnerable. When you show vulnerability and ask for help, you allow those around you to do the same. Practice asking for help when you're feeling good. That way, it's a tool you'll have in your toolbox the days you really need it. And with the vulnerability - Embracing the areas of myself where I don't fit the "norm", and communicating those areas clearly to those around me. Therapy has been a bit part of that for me, especially until I found other like-minded people. Therapy was a place I dared say stuff out loud for the first time. Stuff that I'm now saying every day and wearing on my sleeve, no sweat. Ditto with finding those who I've suspected might get that specific part of me. Making sure all the areas of me is getting reflected in different people. And then a major part, going into parenthood and building a sustainable home, is looking into invisible work and care culture. Since invisible work has been made invisible, it can be hard to prepare for and can break your neck. Talking about it, making it visible, makes it possible to prepare and act consciously Anyway. Thank you for sharing. My understanding of a midlife's crises is exactly that something pulls you out of autopilot and makes you reflect on where you're going, who you are, what tf everything is, where this autopilot even came from, who installed 'em, why and are they flying somewhere you wanna go? I think those are all healthy, foundational questions I wish you the best of luck ❤

    • @TylerLloyd
      @TylerLloyd Před 6 dny

      Phenomenal! I really do need to get better at asking for help. My default is figuring out things for myself and relying on me and me alone. But that clearly hasn’t served me. I’m just starting on this journey, but I’m going to keep what you said in mind. I truly appreciate you.

    I got shingles right now at 25, it started about a week after being diagnosed with a rare genetic mutation that increases your risk of breast cancer... My mom died from breast cancer 4 years ago and I've had to do without parents since, so I feel like this shingles outbreak definitely has something to do with stress brought on from all that. For whatever anecdotal value that it's worth, I determined around this time last summer that I needed to lose some weight. (The dreaded dad bod/beer belly was getting the better of me.) Using a combination of fasting (intermittent and one 72 hour fast), low/no carb, high protein/fat (keto) diet, and focusing all of my exercising on regularly walking, I lost about 23 pounds (186 to 163) in a little less than 2 months (haven't weighed under 165 since high school). I'd like to stay that I stuck with all of that, but I'm certainly back to enjoying carbs and am not walking nearly as much now (a second kid showing up tends to eat up more time), but still doing plenty of high protein (trickier when you're a vegetarian) high fat diet and still intermittent fasting (only typically eat between noon and 8pm). Still sitting at around 165-168, so not too bad. It's a process and developing new (good) habits take determination and lots of repetition, but they're worth it if you can create even a few new healthy habits. Good luck with that and the baby.

    • @TylerLloyd
      @TylerLloyd Před 6 dny

      Yeah, I got the dad bod before becoming a dad! I’m going to start with lower carb/high protein and tracking my calories for the next few weeks to get a better understanding of my baseline-which shouldn’t include the daily ice cream habit I’ve developed over the last few months. Also, walking seems like a good place to start for exercise. It seems like the bare minimum but since I work from home I can easily end the day with less that 3,000 steps.

It wasn't instantaneous but it worked. Next time I'll try the soap. I don't really like killing them either but I can't have them attacking the kids alll the time. I ended up doing the same for the yellow jacket [ground] nest i found the other day. but I tweaked it a little after watching your vid.... Instead I poured in the soap, then poured in my vinegar soap mix that I had, then added more straight soap... no one left the nest.. think they died inside. but i'm going to flush it out tonight just to be safe and make sure it gets the inner depths (p.s the peppermint oil is another lingering deterrent)

      @@KisDraga It may have been the water in the vinegar combined with the soap, rather than the acetic acid. Since making this video I’ve used a water, soap, and peppermint oil spray for pests in my garden. Wearing overalls isn’t about being stylish (in this day and time), it’s about durability, connivence and protection. They’re durable, the convenience of having a pocket for (most) everything you’d need and protection. Durability speaks for itself. Convenience referring to having a pocket or place for your EDC (every day carry) tools, and protection the durable material and bib offers against briars, brambles, dirt, mud etc… Also, don’t worry so much about what your EDC will be, you’ll figure it out. I’d like to suggest you always have a few things on you… 1- your phone 2- pocket knife 3- hawk bill knife 4- pencil 5- Sharpie (fat tip) 6- small flashlight 7- multi-tool With those ^^^^ items on you, you can handle 85% of the problems that come your way. I also have found a small, collapsible screwdriver I keep on me as well. If you carry those things, you’ll never be completely unprepared for what might come your way. Keep up the good work and good luck. 💪🏼

    Thank you for showing the failures as well as the successes. To me, that is more important as to the validity. We all go through our trials, and it's the failures that I learn from the most. That being said: Warnings to everyone... Yellow jackets can be extremely aggressive. I occasionally get them in my front yard. It doesn't take much to get the nest swarming... simply walking over or near the hole can agitate them to attack mode. For dogs and children's sake, I take them out if they're in the front yard. To someone that is allergic, this could be deadly. I can attest to the soap part. My method is to first locate the hole. Don't approach a yellow jacket's nest until at LEAST 1 hour after they're disturbed. Yellow jackets won't swarm on sight from my experiences, it's more vibration that gets their attention. So walk softly. Look during the day, and look to see where they land. I then mark where the hole is by putting something bright and light colored indicating EXACTLY where the hole is. At around 11:00, I go and fill a 5 gallon bucket with water. I then pour 1/4th a bottle of whatever dish soap I have into the water and stir softly (I try not to create bubbles as much as I can). I walk out there with a flashlight, and gingerly approach the nest. I then pour the whole 5 gallons into that little quarter sized hole. I quickly turn over the bucket, put it on top of the hole, and place a rock on top of the bucket to push it down. That's it. The next day, I lift the bucket to see the results. People would be amazed at what comes out of a hole about the size of a quarter.

    Good video for the most part! The only bonehead remark I heard is that it's somewhat bad for the environment. 👉WRONNNGGG!!!👈 DAWN SOAP IS 100% BIODEGRADABLE!!!! Just as biodegradable as the yellowjackets are! 👍 September 2023 I had a yellowjacket nest in the ground and I didn't want my playful kittins gettin over there and gettin stung. I used a stout formula of dawn soap and water. I added an ingredient that I read about that I feel was definitely a contributing factor. Borax!! This was about two or three gallons of very very soapy water with about a quarter cup of borax blended in real good. This is all biodegradable so you don't have to worry about the environmental morons getting all wee wee'd up and pissing their panties! For good measure I layed a nastified old piece of plywood over the hole and a fat concrete block on top of that because let's just face it, I was good and done with it being a threat! No other access points that I know of. I pulled the concrete block off this spring so I can cut grass. The plywood is there partially. They would have made it out by now. If I run across another hole, I'm gonna do the same thing!!

    Y'all need help for a reason to stop streaming, calculate all of your subscriptions and how much that cost you a month times that how much it'll cost you a year. When I actually looked into all our subscriptions we were spending like $1,000 to $2,000 a year just on subscriptions to like Netflix and that that's nuts

    I look at the homes being built and think, how much time to clean, how much money to maintain? No thank you. I'll take a 600sq ft home any day over a mcmansion

    So sorry you had to go through all that. I have a septic tank many years which has caused me no trouble. I live in a sandy area. Very good for sepic. Not good for growing gardens, but i try.

    Dude, I sprayed at night when they are sleeping. I wore long pants, a hoodie, balaclava, protective eyewear. They were very aggressive when they had attacked. I sprayed one night and was chased back into my house by one the next day. The spray works for 24 hours. A day later I covered the nest openings with dirt. A day later, they reopened the nest holes. I used a second spray, waited a day and just covered the openings again. I’ll try dish soap if I need to go a third round.
