OneGuyInAShop CNC Dust Boot
This is a review of the OneGuyInAShop CNC dust boot and the improvements made over the past several years. While my experience with CNCs is limited, I wanted to highlight a product whose performance has been extremely good. All of the products shown in this video were purchased with my own funds and nothing was provided free or discounted.

Miter Fold Jewelry Box
zhlédnutí 1,1KPřed 6 měsíci
I wanted to share my new method for cutting out the case components for a bow front jewelry box. My previous method was time consuming and offered significant opportunities for errors in the placement of the grooves for the drawer runners. This method offers considerable accuracy improvements and time savings permitting a lower price point on my jewelry boxes. I have done several videos on how ...
Costly Disaster Averted

This video shows what I dug out of a piece of 4" thick walnut gifted to me some time ago. It had been stored in a barn loft for a number of years before I received it. I am leery of starting to mill / resaw this piece due to fear of what might still lie beneath. Any suggestions for a deep scan metal detector is appreciated.

This video is a review of the Snickers All Around Work Vest model 4250 and the tools I keep in the work vest for everyday carry. I discuss my likes and dislikes of this vest and offer some limited comparisons to the Blaklader work vests that I have.
Making a Jewelry Box Ring Holder

This video shows how I make a ring holder for a jewelry box drawer. It is an improved method from what I had previously shown with much better results.
StretchAir Air Hose - Caveat Emptor
zhlédnutí 915Před 9 měsíci
This video provides an update on the Stretch Air hose that I used to love but no more. Despite being overpriced relative to other options, the durability of this hose leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, the manufacturer calls their air hoses "consumables" and a total failure of the hose is evidently to be expected.
4 Minute Oval Drawer Pull
zhlédnutí 475Před 10 měsíci
This video shows how I make small oval drawer pulls using the CNC, carving chisel, and sandpaper. I average about 4 minutes per pull once the first pull comes off the CNC. Final sanding and polishing comes later.
K Cup Carousel Build
zhlédnutí 672Před 11 měsíci
Sometimes you just need to take a break from a production run and make something for your own use. This video shows my take on a Keurig K Cup Carousel. I had some reclaimed hard maple from one of my first furniture projects that outlived it's usefulness and a walnut offcut a friend gave me.

Shop Tip - How to Micro Adjust a Fence Stop
zhlédnutí 1,3KPřed rokem
This video demonstrates how I perform micro-adjustments to a miter stop when the tool does not have a micro-adjustment feature. This demonstrates the technique on a miter saw stop but can be used for stops on table-saw crosscut sled, crosscut fence stops, and router table fences as well.
Safely Cutting Short Stock on the Miter Saw
zhlédnutí 3KPřed rokem
This video highlights a miter saw fixture that I use for cutting very short stock on the miter saw. This design is specific to the Festool Kapex KS 120 saw however, if you have another make with the trenching function, this design can probably be altered to fit. While this is probably best cut using a CNC or the Shaper Origin, drawings are provided such that this fixture can be made using more ...

This is part 2 of the compound miter box. Shown is capping the Hoffmann dovetail keys and making a multi-colored epoxy stained glass domed lid. I allow 2 full days cure time for each color and with application of a hard wax finish took a total time of 11 days from starting the lid to the finish.
Making a Hexagonal Compound Miter Box Part 1
zhlédnutí 1,4KPřed rokem
This video is the first of a two part series and shows how I make a hexagonal compound miter box with 15 degree splayed sides. 3D printed fixtures are used to facilitate the dovetail joinery. The sides are Sapele left over from a previous furniture build. The inside faces of the box sides are finished prior to cutting miters. This avoids application of finish in difficult to access areas and ai...

This video describes compound miter geometry and shows the methods I use to determine the proper fence and blade tilts to make compound miters. I will show how I make and test the results of a compound miter. Also is a sneak peek at the Hoffmann dovetail joinery I used fasten/clamp the joint. My favorite compound miter calculation aide is from Matthias Wandel which can be found in either PDF or...
Fixing my 39 year old woodworking mistakes
zhlédnutí 928Před rokem
In this video I make several fixes to a piece of furniture I made 39 years ago. It would have been better if I had built this piece correctly to begin and had performed a dry fit before glueup but sometimes I just have to learn the hard way - that is often the best teacher. Tools used in this video: Kreg R3 pocket hole jig and 1-1/4" fine thread screws Lamello Zeta P2 joiner with P15 Clamex con...

Is there something like this for cross cutting construction lumber?
Yes, Mafell makes a variety of these in different sizes suitable for construction lumber. I don't believe the flexible rail will work with those saws but there are rigid rails available that will do the job. Steve
Great review, drool machine ❤
Hi Steve, thank you for you videos they are very helpful, I have woodworking machines in my garage and I need to reduce sound outside. I have noticed your garage door is insulated what have you used and does it work well.
Hi Alan. I used a 1" thick insulating board from a local lumberyard. It is styrofoam with silver mylar on one side and a thin clear plastic sheet on the other. I probably should have faced the mylar toward the outside for heat reflection though. It works well and my neighbors cannot hear the machinery running. You can hear machinery running standing outside if you are near the shop. Steve
100% Trusted Resource Here! Outstanding video. Thank you Sir. I'm ordering one for a very good friend now for his birthday present next week. So glad I found your video. Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you. Steve
Hi Steve, Thanks for the videos on panel saw set up and maintenance, I have an old panel saw which is basic but accurate and I would like to fit it with a digital readout , is this possible
I haven't done such an upgrade myself so it is hard to say. Ramon Valdez did a Tigerfence upgrade on his Hammer rip fence so you may want to check his channel. I am sure there are options out there but, I haven't had the need to research that. Steve
I am wandering if I can get hat mashine for my workshop
Hi! You wanted to know about great tape measures, I found one! Its called SnapGate! Its priced fairly and available at Harbor Freight. I dont know if its at all Harbor Freights, but in Grants Pass Or. Usa. It is. I use it to maintain 328mm on my violins. I liked it so much I bought several for spares. Hope this helps someone! Bye😅
Martin very wonderful peace of equipment. Cheers.
that dust collector makes a lot of noise
Great video and demonstration of how to use the Saw Boy. Your patience during filming is amazing. I know how much time it adds to a project. Thanks for investing in all of us!
Thanks PK. Steve
Where can I buy this jig? Can you put a link please?
This is a Rockler tenoning jig. You can find it on the Rockler website.
Does anyone out there have a Martin t72 I need a scoring blade belt
The leading edge is much wider, you got it backwards😁👍🏾
Kind of obvious in the closeup you did that the hook is actually about a mm off. Do you know this and compensate in your head?
Great idea, not sure if you tried but where you have the flat spot in the middle you could make that a cone to minimise support required. You could also do an small inverted cone to seal against the glue opening.
Thanks for both episodes of this project. Love your approach. Love your workshop too. Budget forced me to ‘cheap out’ on some tools, but I have a few quality items - though not Festools, despite my wife saying that I could get them.
The Triton is junk. I tried 3 different models in the hope one of them would be accurate - they were all unusable in terms of accuracy. Tried all i could to fettle one of them to make it usable - and failed. I’d recommend anybody spend the money on a good quality biscuit joiner than waste money on a tool that isnt fit for purpose.
If you are looking for how to utilize $350,000 worth of equipment to make a simple box liner, this should get you there :(
That resembles urushi technique !! Good!!
Hi,Ii have a Bosch GLM 150-27 C PROFESSIONAL LASER MEASURE. When i powers on but after scrolling through the menu it displays “” APPFACTORY** Can you help please?
I have used 6 meter talmeter for several years in various renovation jobs. I came to know it when my father-in- law used original version in sheetmetal work. Talmeter is super accurate and belt clip is great. I only wish they would make mirror image of it which could be held at left side and used with left hand.
So i bought one and it is really a piece of shit. Please do not buy !! Lack of quality, it bends after 1 meter and it is not accurate at all.
We use them for drawing ac parts on metal. My teacher even said that you shouldn't really use it for measuring. It's like magic when you see a pro use it for that.
How does one measure furniture? Thanks
wonderful - how about quater round 3 way ????
Interesting thought. I did this as a test joint for a couple of doll case builds so the stock was scaled to look delicate. This could probably be done with quarter round but would have to be scaled up in size to have enough meat to connect. Steve
@@extremewoodworker thank You very much for replying. Well, today or perhaps tomorrow when warmer, I will take my table saw outside to carport and experiment cuts, because I need to finish mad room with new shiplap panels and must cover all the corners vertical and horizontal. Good afternoon, I have the exact same setup as you and currently using the kent cnc and run into the same problem when I use the amana rc2259. Does it really work that well with that large bit. It's almost 4in and wondering if I will end up cutting the bristles off the same as on my kent cnc dust boot. Also on a separate note it's tough finding others who use that same rc2259 bit. Was wondering what speeds and feed you found to work best with that bit? I mainly flatten hard wood slabs and still looking to optimize the feed and speeds, rpms, doc etc. Thank you in advance for the help, I appreciate your time!
It does not cut bristles if they are just above the surface of your workpiece. If you compress the bristles, they will be cut. I use a 0.125" pass depth with a 60% stepover at 12000 rpm and a 250ipm feed with 125ipm plunge. I usually start about 1/2 those feed rates to start and then bump it up depending on results. Since this is not a plunging bit, I always lead in from the side so the plunge rate does not come into play. Hope this helps. Steve
Hi Steve. I have had a Lumber Wizard metal detector for about 20 years and it has never let me down. On thicker boards such as the one you showed I scan it from both sides. I just looked online and the newest version is called the Lumber Wizard 5. It has about a 6 inch scanning area and the new version has a laser to help pinpoint the area where the metal is found. Woodcraft, Rockler and Amazon carry’s it as well as other places. As I said I have been satisfied with mine.
Thank you for the detailed and thorough review. 🙏
I never really understood the "wine caddy". I know lots of people make them, lots of people sell them, lots of people buy them, and lots of people give them as gifts. My question is this: Does anyone actually USE them? To be clear, I've made them, sold them, and given them as gifts, but personally, I don't see any practical use.
Not being a wine drinker, I don't use them but gave them away as gifts. Looks like it is primarily decoration as opposed to having a useful function to me.
Been working with my Crazy Horse for a few years now and find it indispensable
So in the simplest form you need this tens of thousands of dollars set up to do it 😂
Nope, use what you have and be as accurate as possible.
Nice project Steve. Could not find the plans on Festool. One question on size of bases. 2’ x ? ( looks like 10” and 14”?). Thanks
Hi Steve, great video as always! I am looking to order a felder profil 45 z. do you find that having a power sliding fence worth while or is it just a nice to have? I am also considering a F 700 which has power rise and fall but no auto fence option. Thank you.
Hi James. I had upgraded to the Profile 45Z from a shaper that had manual handwheel adjustments for the fence and spindle. The real advantage of the computerized system is a significant reduction in setup time and having the ability to go back to the same setup. I note the settings on my project drawings and just enter them when I run the same project again. I could save the settings but have found it takes me less time to enter values from the drawing than to search for settings in a program database. I have never had the power drive version of the Felder so cannot answer to its usefulness. Both work but, the potential time savings is a big plus. Steve
@@extremewoodworker Thank you for the answer, please keep up the videos. They are very informative, valuable and much appreciated!
With that adjustable bearing do you have to make the cut in one exact spot? Looked like you set one point on the guide.
Hi Paul. The guide has an elliptical shape to it so there is one point that offers the maximum depth of cut. That point is marked with a white mark. Steve
I have a Legacy Maverick with spindle. Dust collection was an issue until I discovered One Guy In A Shop. Easy install, works fabulously with any bit.
Hi Butch. It is always good to hear about experiences with the same product. Thanks. Steve
Nicely done
Thank you Butch
Steve-how do you feel about the AVID CNC; I’m in the market and weighing my options. Would welcome any input on how you have found the Avid CNC over time? Thanks.
Hi Mindy. For my purposes, the Avid fits the bill. Overall, I like the Avid but it has one annoying characteristic, running at high feed speeds over (250 ipm), the acceleration and deceleration of the heavy spindle mass results in flexing of the base. If you expect to run very fast with a lot of short duration movements, I would look for a machine that had a welded steel base. i did a Kepner Tregoe decision analysis on all the machines I was considering and the Avid just happened to come out ahead. Some of the deciding factors that swayed toward the Avid were 1) it was shipped in UPS boxes and I didn't have to mess with getting a large machine into my shop and, 2) it was expandable if my shop space situation expanded. Hope this helps.
@@extremewoodworker Thanks very much for your assessment; very helpful!
Great Video! So well explained!
Thank you. Glad it was helpful. Steve
Hi Steve - Love that cnc buddy..just like the rest of your shop!
Hi Nate. Thanks. The CNC has certainly changed the way I work. It is not the best at everything but, can make things much more accurate and efficient for some things. If I just wish I had more room for a larger unit. Steve

Hey Steve, any chance you will be doing a review of this shaper? I am so torn between Format 4 and SCM quality wise, I see more negative comments about felder than SCM but I like certain felder features. Great channel btw.
I do not intend to do a review of this shaper as the current model electronics have changed significantly from my 2016 model machine so am not sure of how applicable my review would be. I have seen some negative comments about Felder but my experiences with the machines and the technical support has been pretty good and any issues I have had were resolved. Steve
Thank you, thank you! I've been searcing for a solution other than just rolling up fabric. While you have phenomenally outfitted shop, I believe I can duplicate your method with what I have in my shop. Your attention to detail is similar to my own. Thank you for making this video. 👍
Glad this technique was useful to you. I just completed two more jewelry boxes today using that same method. Steve
Hey Steve! I just found your channel and subscribed to it! You have some amazing equipment and projects! I have much to learn from your channel! 😊👍- Eric

Thanks for the video. I do have a Felder shaper so I'd love to make what you've got but can't seem to find those brackets you have at around 3 minutes in. I've tried to find the on the Felder site but no luck. Could you put a link to those?
Hi Joshua. These are parts and will not be listed in their on-line shop. Call Felder and ask for parts to order. Make sure you get the threaded inserts as well. I have long since lost the part numbers for these. Steve
