Crossing the Eyre Peninsula S3 Ep.5
After leaving the Nullarbor behind, its time to head for Port Augusta. Intending to go South I am chased away by incoming thunderstorms. I have little other choice then to make way for mother nature and head north. Hopefully back to the security of clear skies.

Love coin toss Bro! I travelled Asia on the toss of a coin and that is what has brought me to where I sit today.
Awesome channel bro, believe it or not there are many tourists which do the trip on bikes..especially from Asian countries. Just a few tips, to break up the dead silence, look at buying a small UHF handheld radio ($29-$49) from Anaconda/Supercheap/BCF and leave it on scan clipped to your shirt so can hear the truckies all chatting, and many will now call out to you saying "g'day fella on bike, courtesy call..let you know I'm the truck coming up behind, how are ya, all good, all ok, you have plenty water?) as they pass just checking on you, they are really cool.. You can get a cheap small as CB (size of cigarette packet and batteries last for days) and the cheapies have a range of 1-2km+, so if you hear chit chat between drivers youll know they are not far away, also press the talk button and say hello, this is ******** (come up with a call sign) and have a chat to the truckies as they pass as they love a convo and can fill you in with what's up front. Also, if you have a world wide radio at night out there you'll pick up radio stations.from.all over the world.. Anyway, safe trips, hope.info is helpul, keep up those middle of nowhere tours,.your showing the rest of the world the real Aussie outback and the amazing place it is. Cheers 🍻🍺🍻🍺🍻🍻
Did it last year as part of INDIPAC, 200 plus klm days , Sydney was the goal but only made it to Victoria. 3400 klms in three weeks.
Nice one. Are you going to try again to get to Sydney? What stopped you in Victoria?
@Lynx-and-the-Falcon might have ago in 2026, I was broken when I got to Adelaide
All the very best, hope you smash it 💪
@@Lynx-and-the-Falcon thanks
I watched the one through the Nullarbor and the one through port Augusta…. Then I got to this one.😂😂 and you swapped your bike for a freaking shopping trolley… couldn’t stop my self from subscribing to your channel. This is pretty cool legitimate stuff to watch.. 😅.. keep up the good work mate. Two thumbs up!!
Cheers mate, hopefully no more shopping trolleys in my future ✊️
Mate what sought of bike do you have for this Aussie touring as im looking to do some in not to distant future?
Ive got a Giant talon2 2021. I bought it new in Thailand for about $600. I upgraded the fork and changed the gears from a 24spd to a 12spd. Done about 14,000km touring and she's strong.
@@Lynx-and-the-Falcon great stuff mate.ive also subscribed. Love to see Aussies doing bike tours.👍
Please next videos turn down the music cant barely here you talk
Yes the audio department has received a hefty thrashing
@@Lynx-and-the-Falcon good
Cool just subbed did that in 2020 was ment to go back but country went in to lock down
Great vid & series. Nice share. Ride safe
Thanks Steve, appreciate it 👍
The background music is too loud compared to the narrative otherwise enjoyable to watch.
agree
Are they starting to build wildlife bridges in Australia? Just seeing the road signs makes me sad... how are truckers supposed to stop for smaller critters crossing?
Only seen drainage drains that could act as a causeway for animals. Not big enough for roos or emus though.
Damn good effort. Thank you.
Brilliant - every bit of it. Thank you.
Cheers Robin 👍, Sumatra was an awesome place to ride.
Amazing places ,you can feel the isolation.Love the clouds the formations are something you don't see often. That green crab was really unique .😂Talk about survival skills ,(You can't see me ) 😆.😂
Hi mate great ride - well done, but please get some hi vis on your coat - it’s really hard to spot a bike in the dark background of the bush and asphalt take care 😊
Cheers mate. In my experience black with flashing lights is the safest option. Much better to look like a human being then a street sign. Each to their own i guess 👍
Another great vid lee. How about a video dedicated just to your bike and how you set it up for bike packing. What you carry etc.... that would be cool.
Cheers bro. Great minds hey! That video is already in the hands of the production team 😜
Another great video, Lee. How'd they get all the gear, bike and passport from the Euro cycler? Did they actually stick him up at gun or knife point? Sounds a bit goofy he didn't have his passport/money/essentials with him in a fanny pack on his body. Did he say how they got his stuff? At night, daytime, what TF? Keep pedaling and stay safe.
Cheers Mike, na the poor bastard left his bike unlocked outside a shop and they just rode off on it. He showed me a picture of the guy who stole it. Cops say that the guy is known to them but they can't do anything. Why? I hear you asking! Well from what I've been told it's a tricky situation with the aboriginal community here. Been told by several residents, business owners and even the police that they know the system and have pretty much free reign. The elder people often get the younger ones to go do crime as they know nothing will happen. Everyone I have spoken too has had the identical experience and views.
I was watching your latest video I hear you're talking about going through Wilcannia NSW I would avoid that town they have got problems with indigenous people up there not many white Aussies stop at that town I've been up that way and we just drove straight through and went up to White Cliffs opal mining town probably a little bit out of your way we were in a 4 X 4 hope this information helps
Thanks Shane, I appreciate the heads up.
Great respect & LOVE to our indigenous bruddas & sistas of Wilcannia, Barrka River & Far West NSW! :)
Port Augusta is ok, recent Bikes SA event started & finished there. Locals were great :)
Yes i met some lovely locals also, could sense their frustration.
Lucky to secure the air bed, better than sleeping on the ground. That $15 campsite even provided a plastic chair and bottle crate tables.🙂
Absolutely, winning all the way around 😁
Great effort Bro! Love you vids. Are you shooting it all on a go pro?
Cheers mate. Dji Osmo action 3 and Dji mini3 pro drone.
Pt Agutta mate...perfect place for a Nuclear reactor ....
🤣
What does the 25,238 m elevation mean? You are doing well.
That's the accumulated elevation gain since leaving Perth. How much up hill riding basically.
Epic
Enjoying it, mate? I reckon the Nullarbor was my favorite part of my time cycling Australia - and I got rained on too! 😆
Yes mate, just not use to these temperatures. Looking forward to hitting the tracks again shortly.
I've seen a few pedal and a bloke pushing a cart. Stay safe!
Thanks. yeah seen Japanese guy pushing a wheelbarrow, bloody mad 😂
The door to the Lord is always open.. I hope you left a donation.. even id it was just a piss up their wall. Holy water! Crazy ride , bro.. It keeps going..
Hallelujah
Awesome Lee! The name Nullarbor comes from the Latin word “nullus” meaning “nothing” and the word “arbor” meaning “tree”. However, this name isn't completely accurate - there are a few trees to be seen on the plain.
Cheers buddy, yes just recently learnt the names meaning, they kept it simple yet descriptive, hope you're well and smiling.
Awesome vid Lee 👌
Thanks Dave oooo
Great videos, watching closely. Crossed the Nullarbor last year with a group, you're doing it justice here. 👍
Thank you
Have been following your journey. The Nullabor crossing would be fantastic but also with some degree of trepidation. Hope you were able to find another sleeping pad.
No new mat, unfortunately long weekend when i arrived in Ceduna, so shops all closed for 3 days 🤣
Perfect blend of cinematic landscapes and personal journey where the landscape footage creates a sense of scale and wonder, while the journey footage brings a personal perspective.
Cheers mate
Inspiring! Filling our hearts with love of this BIG country.... thank you for sharing your amazing adventure!!!!
Thanks for your comment 😁
Very flipping good fifty five.
Thanks PPR
Love the Nullarbor! I've done it once, want to do it again with a tent. I'm the same I can't speak properly after riding big km and usually someone wants a story when you've just stopped.
Hahaha, yeah slowly getting more tired each day
Hey Bro! Do you carry a laptop or how do you edit and upload you vids.
Yes mate i carry a 14" laptop and edit normally in my studio (tent).
Hey Bro! Where you headed? And where have you come from?
Perth - Airlie Beach (Qld - Darwin. Fingers crossed.
Given all the corrugations, I was wondering if your bike has rear suspension of if it's a hardtail and you have a suspension seatpost? Thinking of doing long distance dirt track bike-packing on a hardtail with a suspension seatpost (a Red Shift) to help soak up bumps. Thanks for the video.
Na mate it's a hardtail no rear or seat suspension, Giant talon 2 with an upgrade fork and 12 spd drivetrain
Cheers
great vid mate..
Thanks soo much mate! That's in my mind to do it next year and it was hard to find some info about the belladonia track 😉! Have fun and well ride
No worries, goodluck for next year
I've been thinking about taking this shortcut!
Yeah she's a bumpy one mate
@@Lynx-and-the-Falcon That's ok, what size tyres and psi?
50mm hybrid, 40psi. Glide over those corrugations haha
You made me check to see if my chain was still around my neck. Beautiful photography, bro.
Haha, my heart sank when I realised, proper panic mode 😂
You're a legend Lee! Ive driven across the Nullabor 23 times, never ridden it!. I used to do 200kms a day but never would I have attempted the ride you are doing, its awesome! Not much out where you're heading bro, The Bite is the best bit. Lots of love and strength my-man, Daniel.W x
Cheers bro
Desolate bro. Unreal. Keep on truckin. Amazing adventure. You da man. ✌🤛🪰
Respect Sir. This is great content. Thank you for the adventure.
Did you check out the museum in Esperance? Some bits of Skylab in there - although you'll see more bits at Balladonia.
No, but I'll check it out in Balladonia for sure
Must visit Denmark one day, as I was born in the real Denmark.
Absolutely beautiful area
I would like to follow your journey. For structure of your journey please state your position, towns and camp names please. So we can follow your journey. I did the Munda Biddi from Perth in 13 days. Best experience. Yes the pea gravel is so slippery. Good luck buddy.
Sorry mate, but the shopping trolley cracked me up! Jokes aside: Fantastic improvising!
😂 yes quite the fall from grace
good luck on the roads ,please be aware some mororists are flogs,hi-vis and Lights...good luck...
Cheers buddy
