You are the only person I’ve found who clearly explains the Auto/Manual switch in the lens! I’ve been extremely confused by it found it hard to find any information anywhere. Thank you for covering that my friend 🤝

Great evaluation n pics...just moved up to 120. Every role of foma I shot in 35mm was rebranded Arista edu on the rebate. Turns out Arista is cheaper then Fomapan. I found this to be true price wise in 120 also...so it's Kentmere n Arista for me...

Nice review, have you used the wide angle lens 45mm 4。How does the 45mm distortion perform ？super wide lens tends to have barrel distortion and some lens is quite heavy distorted。。。

I have a question. I have the 105, 55 and 75 all SMC pentax. For some reason, with the 105 and the 75, when I stop down the aperture in manual mode, it also stops down the lens. So if my lens is at 22, I can't even see what I'm trying to get in focus because it's too dark. The only lens that doesn't stop down is the 55 - I can see a bright screen at all apertures. Do you know why this happens to the 105 and 75 but not the 55? i have to focus wide open and then fix my fstop its pretty annoying.

I would recommend you also try out a 3D printed right grip (remove the left grip when testing out the right grip). It makes the camera feel like a modern DSLR (similar to my Nikon D850 with the vertical grip only a bit bigger and heavier).

Great photos, my man, but you’re not fooling anybody with that cute little shutter sound you super imposed into the video. We all know that, with that 6 x 7, your neighbors were waking up every time you hit the shutter release button lol. I really like the idea of taking photograph of things in your home so that you can practice seeing Monday and things in a different light. Excellent job here. Also, that lens is incredible.

Foma was much nicer, i love the contrast. I would shoot T-Max all the time if it wasn’t 2x more expensive

Thanks for the comment on the auto switch. 1 less thing to worry about. I do use the lenses on my Pentax 6x7 and need to hit the auto switch with that camera. 75mm f4, 200mm f4, 135mm f4 Macro, 55mm f4.

Thanks for the info about the grainy film. I just got a couple of rolls because I never shot it before. I took notes. I’m going to forgive you about that camera strap business. Sometimes you have to make exceptions to use what you have.

Beautiful stuff! Question-that shot in the yard, you talked through switching from f/5.6 at 250 to f/8 at 125. What was the thought process there? It turned out lovely, was it just to keep more of the frame in focus since you were relatively close to it?

I like your honest appraisal of both these films, I was looking to maybe venture into the budget arena, however not sure its budget anymore, I will stick with my current stock and accept the price hike.

Foma for sure. Kentemere has loads of midtone detail but no real contrast.

I agree with you. Fomapan 400 in 120 feels like a different film than its 135 version. I've shot a ton of it in 135 and, although it's not the easiest film to get good results from, it's awesome when I manage to make it work. In 120 format, I've never been impressed.

A very informative video. I've owned two Pentax 6x7 (non-MLU versions) since the mid-70s and love shooting with them. I recently had both of them with TTL meters completely rebuilt (not just CLA'd). Hopefully I'll be shooting with them for many more years. I use the TTL averaging meter when shooting color and a hand held Spotmeter II when shooting B&W so I can expose for the shadow details or highlight details depending on the shot. I've purchased the 35mm fisheye, 45mm, 75mm, 105mm, 135mm macro, 200mm & 300mm lenses through the years. I have a 3D printed right grip on each body so I use the left hand top & bottom posts for my strap and cross my body the way you do. I find that very comfortable.

I would be interested to see how this film would render colours if an 85b filter was used. One stop of light would be lost adding to the challenge to shoot it, but something tells me it might in theory get a more natural look.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no radioactive elements in any 67 lenses. Only a few select M42 mount Takumar optics for 35mm had Thorium in them, (35mm f2, 50mm f1.4, 50mm macro).

I hope you don't mind me making another point in the comments! You commented that it was annoying that there was a boring modern car in the way of the beautiful house you wanted to shoot. I recently had something of a lightbulb moment after also being grumpy about annoying modern things or crowds being in the way of what I wanted to shoot. Then I realised I was being an idiot. One reason I shoot film is because I want a tangible permanent record of the scene, not some ephemeral thing that I'll share to followers, or a file that I'll have to keep in "the cloud" for decades. I like to compose layers so I deliberately work out the most interesting way to include the annoying modern thing or the crowd as an actual layer in the composition. The 'annoying modern thing' layer *will* eventually become of historical interest ... especially when you are in your 80s and looking through your old negatives. (Make sure you give them a damn good wash and get all the chemicals out of them, of course!)

Finally someone made a good video using Formapan. I use it alot because it is ... cheap and I like the look of it.

I’m glad you mentioned hiking and contact lenses for those who don’t know. 😆 I borrowed my uncle’s 6x7 MLU to take photos in San Francisco. 1) It’s comparable to carrying a child in your bag. You’re lugging around this metallic thing great distances with 2 additional lenses packed up, it’s tiresome after 9 miles of walking. 2) I scratched my Maui Jim’s when I had the eyepiece pressed against my glasses. 😢 3) Yeah, my uncle’s 6x7 MLU and 67II receives annual maintenance. My uncle’s got connections with someone who can do a routine cleanup, so I’ll be using the same person when I’m in town 4) I’ve had my 6x7 MLU for two months now, and my uncle told me about the Manual or Auto for the Aperture. “Just leave the damn thing on auto.” 5) On eBay Mint with Grip is like $900 before S&H. After reviewing the seller, I jumped on it, added in the Takumar 105 2.4 as well.

Nice video sir though I am still unsure as to why every video about film, puts more emphasis and mention on the 'camera and film type used 'and not the' lens and film type used'.

I always wondered how the earliest photographers dealt with the very low film sensitivity available at the time. Now I know. The tripod - world’s greatest invention after the wheel and pillows. Great video as always. I think you’re a tad bit harsh about the film, because washed out colours have their charms. But then, have never been a fan of Polaroid. This for me is Polaroid without the pretension.

It’s rare that I watch a photo walk of a spot I so precisely visited and photographed myself recently, but this was it! So fun to see how you approached the same subjects! I was Leica Q2, which, while great, wasn’t the same as your 67. But I’m now 500CM, so chasing the same. And yes, Gold! Sweet.

good video and good shots. I wonder which apertures you've used on the shots, just to get a sense of how soft it gets as the aperture changes, but still, I do like the shots!
