Can you program the APX to disable the PTT on the radio with the bluetooth RSM connected? Unfortunately can't be done on the R7. That can be a bit fun with the radio in a backpack or something.
Nice radio, where do you buy the bands on the antenna from?
@flightstatic4662 I purchase them from Wiscomm. They are great to work with a d seem to have some of the lowest prices.
@@kd9fal Thanks, i'll look them up!
How can I parrot with my beats for Bluetooth?
Pair it like you would pair your headset to anything else. Put headphones in pairing mode, then go to bluetooth setting, search, and pair. Not all bluetooth devices are compatible with the xg and there isn't a list of supported devices, so its trial and error.
What voice are you using?
@southern_gaming I have a mix of the original motorola ones and ones i created from North Carolinas tts program
You’re lucky
Can it be jailbroken by holding down the ptt button, the button underneath the ptt and the orange button - all at the same time, then when holding them all in, switch the radio on. This usually opens up the radio to factory specs before it was programmed.
Negative, Just gave it a try
how much for your fortnite account
um, um, um
Nice!
It keeps shutting off in my pocket??
Make sure you have a good battery and nothing is touching the power button.
Was this done on p25 conventional or analog
p25 conventional
Great Video Russell...you are a tremendous asset to ham radio not only now but also for many years in the future. 73 Cliff KCØSDV. Pleasure to personally know you.
Where’d you get the program software and what version are you running?
I've red everyone is getting it from the Harris website. I would imagine it's not cheap. I'm trying to figure this out before I buy a radio
Does the Kenwood have the quick chirp like Motorola? I believe called DOS mute
It has MDC1200. DOS Mute keeps MDC from being heard on a receiving radio.
Everyone everyone please hit the👍👍for radios with Russell
What is the battery model/name or where can I buy it?
I'm not sure of the exact part number, but you can do a search on ebay or Amazon and they are readily available.
Nice score. I don't believe you can use them for MURS as they are not type accepted for it.
😂😂😂😂 I made an even better one out of a simple repeater controller called surecom Sr 629 with the appropriate cables and it worked just fine no extra Hardware don't have to have all that bulky stuff
Not sure what's so funny. There are two radios, power supply, power distribution all mounted on a piece of plywood. Everything is in a case for easy transportation, or can be pulled out to sit on a desk. I wouldn't consider it bulky. Everything needed to make it operational is in one box. I don't need to grab multiple boxes, or try to take equipment that is in the shack or in use somewhere else. What are you running for radios with your SR-629? How is it packaged up? What's you power output on each radio?
beep boop
How do I get the programming software?
i have noticed when i run my singlestick on my manpack that it works 10x better with a 19 inch wire mounted to the radio ground. just something to watch out for
Thanks for the heads up. I will keep an eye on it. Do you know a difference in SWR or just performance? The singlesticks are meant for more localized operations/interop. I have the duplexer in there to connect to a Dual band base for wide area communications.
Swr didn't change much but my signaled reports were significantly better on less power
My understanding is that SWR is a proportional factor but not cumulative radiation efficiency. It's more to keep your tuner/radio happy.
But yeah, a counterpoise wire, "rat tail" can definitely be beneficial sometimes. Cheers.
Did you program your APX 7000?
Yes I did
Do you mind sharing with me your code plug? I’m new to programming APX 7000/8000 radios. I have CPS but I can’t get into CPS with out a code plug. I just want to learn about programming before I get my apx radio. Do you think you can help me?
@@DronePilot487 Send me an email and I will get you a copy of a code plug. It won't be my code plug, but at least it is a code plug you can dabble in.
Thank you so much. I appreciate it. I sent you an email. I can’t wait to get inside the system to see what it entails…. you made my day, sir.
I got an XTS 5000 model 3 I would love to be able to find somebody to wipe it clean to factory and make it where I can only listen to my local sheriff department and the weather the band I have found people on eBay. They say they will do it, then they back out of the deal. I have windows ten and I cannot find the software
Your best bet to monitor your local sherrifs office is to by a scanner. If you don’t know your way around the xts5000 or which ever radio you may use don’t try to use it as a scanner. You just keep mentioning XTS5000 Model 3. Do you know if the radio is the correct band for your local sherif. Do you know what type of system the sherif department is using? If your sheriff’s office is on a trunked system, putting a radio on that system to monitor is frowned upon and illegal. There may be a reason that they won’t program it for you. The software is available online. It just requires some searching to find, meaning it’s not gonna be the first link in google.
0:41 FRS DMR sounds interesting. Hopefully Midland or someone else makes an FRS/GMRS DMR radio. Motorola is too expensive for me. 😳
I have it in there as a just because. And use it for testing purposes. I really like the Motorbo line from Motorola
I would love to be able to have this XTS 5000 model 3 program for my local sheriff's department.Just to listen also I would like to have the weather band I got this off of ebay and I wish I could listen to my local sheriff
You will need the Astro25 CPS to program your XTS5000. As long as they are conventional p25 or Analog and your XTS5000 is the correct frequency band, you will be able to listen. NOAA Weather Radio operates in the VHF band, so if your sheriff office and xts is VHF, you are all good.
@@kd9fal I just wish that I could get it programmed.I wish there was somebody that would program for my local sheriff's department.I just want to listen
Do you have the CPS from Motorola or does it work with other programming software?
It only works with Motorola CPS.
Did you get the CPS from Motorola or is there other software that works (Chirp etc)? I can't seem to find it on Moto site
@CliffR, I got the software from motorola on their myview. You ha e to sign up for a business account to be able to access the CPS
Dude if you need any help with your project, let me know. I have a small Motorola shop.. I think the point 2 point will be cool. Look into asterisk.. really cool dude
Thanks for the offer. I am using FreePBX which is based off Asterisk. the P2P are going to be a little down the road as I slowly collect equipment for the buildout. Currently working on obtaining a device to run FreePBX on and then adding some MESH wifi systems
Where can I buy this one at I need to replace my lost one for my job at six flags
You can find used SL300's on eBay, or I believe you can still buy them new through a Motorola dealer. Make sure you find one with the correct frequency, number of channels, features, etc.
The rubber side buttons on the AN version are a lot easier to replace than the BN version. That plastic pops out from inside the case and it is easily serviceable.
Thats good to know, thanks for sharing. I've always had BN models, but I like the feel of the AN's

How you doing how you doing my name Jamal I'm trying to learn more about radios
Welcome to the channel Jamal
If that's a high band 450-470 will it go down to 446 for ham
Hoe many frequency can you save?
1000 channels
Fun VHF bricks
Me too with loving the asmr , my favorite it the power knob click and the beep when turning on, it gets my radio juices going
Connect with baofeng uv5r lest see
1. Why would I do that to this poor radio. 2. I don't have a uv-5r
Is there VOX in the setting on the radio
I don't believe so. I will double-check when i get back to my computer. In my opinion, VOX does not belong on a commercial radio. If not used correctly, it creates unintentional key ups, and the end user doesn't know it is keying up. Vox is useful if you need a quick and dirty way to insert audio from another radio or device.
@@kd9fal Thank you can you get fire and police on the sl300 with programming
@@KarsonM2011 If they operate in the band the radio operates in and are analog or conventional DMR, yes
I am thinking about purchasing one of these for security. Will I be able to use it right out of the box if I don't wanna program it
@@willtherocker2373 You will need to program the radio for a frequency you are authorized to use before you can use the radio
Hello, do these talk encrypted automatically? Why do people prefer vhf over the 800mhz versions?
They have software encryption, I believe it is adp. You still have to setup the encryption, so it is not automatic. 800mhz is useless unless you are public safety or a business that has an 800 mhz license. With a vhf radio, I have access to the 2m ham band.
@@kd9fal Thanks! What do you think of the XTL5000 100 watt radio as a ham radio.
@hellapellanyc6465 xtl5000 for ham radio will get the job done. I wouldn't pay ebay prices for one as they are a little outrageous, but if you can find one for a couple hundred go for it.
@@kd9fal Thanks do you know anything about the EF Johnson 5100 ES? I like the idea of using P25 as its not as common as gmrs so just looking for something like that and or with encryption. Maybe the xts2500 is a good choice? I am looking at xts5000 but I see they require a hard to find programming software from motorola as well as a cable and are quite expensive.
@hellapellanyc6465 I don't have any experience with the ef Johnson 5100. As far as P25, that is an operating mode where as gmrs is a license. I may have just read your comment wrong, but you need a license to use p25. I love the xts5000 and 2500. Both are great radios. I'm looking at adding some uhf xts5000 or 2500 to my collection soon. Software is readily available online.
hey man i just recently bought a motorola xpr 3300 that i THOUGHT was vhf but turns out it was uhf. the seller does not take refunds what could i do.
Sell it. Ebay and FB Market place are good options
What is wrong with the uhf version?
@@hellapellanyc6465 my county frequency is 154 and this radio operates on a 403 frequency so I can't use it. The seller does not do returns so I'm stuck with a radio I can't use
@@FireEMSResponsePOV sorry to hear that man! Someone will buy it on ebay. I have bought many things that I couldn't return that I had to sell myself and it's not a problem just list it and wait.
❤😍😍😍
I still like the 7k better than the 8k (we have at work) I like the secondary loud speaker and the screen on the 7k much better. Nice radio 👍
I've never used a 8000, but I really enjoy the 7000. I found it had the second speaker when I went to install one with the Bluetooth antenna. The contacts didn't align properly and found audio coming from the second speaker.
God I love radio ASMR lol, specially XTS, APX and other radios. Nice vid!!
I Wana get some of these but how far can you communicate outside with them in wooded areas ? I'm a GMRS guy i understand terrain an signal varts but just a rough distance a guy on Facebook has 6 for sell an I don't Wana buy them if they want reach at least a mile?
I've never ranged tested them. I've only used them once in a small park and they worked well.
Great overview! I had one but everyone said the audio sounded horrible on P25. Never did figure it out and sold it. Thinking about getting another one. I wonder how hard NAS is to setup on it?
I think the audio sounds fine on P25, but my apx definitely has better audio. There is a video out there on how to NAS, isn't very hard.
@@kd9fal yes after scrolling down I saw there’s a 50 minute video on it. I was more or less talking about transmit audio.

Do you have an radios that you don't use that you would donate to someone
Unfortunately no. I have my UHF kits and VHF kits that are available for use by others, but those are only for special events. I must have a good working relationship with those who I let use that equipment as they are not cheap.
Do u know if that earpiece will work with a sl300
It the SL300 uses the operation critical bluetooth it will work. It works with the SL7550
Thank you ! Sounds great.
Good video. I have a xpr6500 that i have not successfully gotten to work with cps. I always get a pop-up warning that says it won't communicate with cps. I've had good luck with my xts 5000 getting it going with p25 and analog. Thanks again and 73 AA8NN
Have you fixed the error yet?
Windows XP or Windows 7 both 32bit ONLY.
