Gotta love Sound Voltex! As a musician myself this was one of the more interesting music games I came across at my local pinball arcade. Didnt fit in with all the other cabinets, but way more of a spectacle to play than Guitar Hero no doubt.

This is brilliant! I love how you approached challenging yourself to make this video too. SDVX is definitely an awkwardly displayed game to film especially if you're trying do a full on review for it. Only criticism I have is the fact you didn't challenge yourself to play Level 10+ tracks, there are def. a lot of players in the community that won't even acknowledge you unless you can match up to them playing Level 15+. I appreciate your attempt though, you even went out of your way to show how exhausted you were too. I wont deny how much heart and passion you put into slapping this together.

thanks for making this video!! i really appreciate the detail and effort you put into it ☺ i plan on going to a round1 next month and they have crossbeats rev sunrise! I'm going with my family, but i don't wanna drag them around while i just play rhythm games the whole time LMAO! so hearing that this one is beginner-friendly makes me happy! I'm gonna try to get my mom to play crossbeats rev 😆 ALSO I LOVE that you used the yugioh DM eye-catch and 5D's title card themes....yugioh forever!!!!!! you have a new subscriber 😎👍🏾

This game honestly doesnt get enough love. I love how you compared it to the mobile first before expanding on the cabinet. Its very much approachable.

The home port for Gravity Wars was revolutionary for the SDVX community at the time. I had a japanese port myself.

The best part about this game is watching it in tournament play. You should definitely check out Bemani League competitions to see how awesome they look.

Nice work! I would highly recommend starting from Level 10 tracks if you want to keep improving. Great suggestions include "Warriors Aboot" and "Aerial Skydive".

I really enjoyed this video! However, I also think that it would be a great idea to revisit any of the rhythm games in a year or two and see how your feelings and attitude towards have changed! Pretty much every SDVX player that ends up maining it (along with other BEMANI games), ends up having a differing opinion on any given aspect after enough time has passed. It's a really interesting aspect of all rhythm game communities and it's really nice to be able to relate and understand how every facet of a game comes together in the end! P.S: Regarding the difficulty, it's a pretty glaring "issue" that only gets addressed so often in the games, but consider that a song rating of 5 in the early days of SDVX (any game really) is drastically different than a 5 in Exceed Gear due to the fact that as the game progresses, the playerbase understands how to conquer the challenges presented by the devs, and with each subsequent installment, the old rating loses a lot of meaning due to it now becoming an outdated standard. We can only pray that stuff gets re-rated accordingly with any upcoming mix!

Hey, really excited to see a video covering IIDX from a newcomer's perspective! Just wanted to point out a few things that others have probably mentioned already, but just in case - the "Lightning model" (the newer cabinet design with the touchscreen - the one you played IIDX 31 Epolis on) debuted a few years ago with IIDX 27 Heroic Verse. Lightning model cabinets have some advantages over the classic style cabinet. The display runs at 120 Hz rather than 60, and the turntable is grippier and its resistance can be adjusted. You still see the older style cabinets sometimes (the one you played IIDX 30 Resident on) because, well, money. The point system - it's 2 points for a "Just" Great (flashing great), 1 point for a "normal" Great (orange colored great) and 0 points for Good, Bad, Poor. Grades for songs (AAA, AA, A, B, etc.) are assigned based on point total. It is possible to fail a song with a AAA grade or pass with an F. Difficulty scale - actually goes up to 12. Each song has up to 5 different notechart versions - from easiest to hardest: Beginner, Normal, Hyper, Another, and Leggendaria. To use "Red Zone" as an example, it has a Beginner chart (level 1), a Normal chart (level 5), a Hyper chart (level 9), an Another chart (level 11) and a Leggendaria chart (level 12). Anyway, really happy to watch this and see your first impressions of IIDX. Hope you stick with it and enjoy it!

Always enjoyable to watch someone taking a shot at iidx and grasping the game over time. Hope you're having fun! A ton of bangers are just not available at lower difficulty levels, unfortunately. Personally used to live relatively close to an arcade with offline Rootage, but not anymore :(. Really wish I could play on a real machine with online functionality.

If you have access to one, I'd highly recommend trying out a Valkyrie Cab over the old Nemsys cab. It has newer features like Standard Start (allows you to play 3 songs regardless of failing), Premium Time (10 minutes of play time, and allows you to quick restart and quick fail), and a bunch of online multiplayer features, and runs a lot better (newer hardware and 120fps instead of 60fps). I highly recommend trying one of your Round1 has that cab!

Max level is not 10 but 12 😰😰 I play some 10's but I can't imagine myself anywhere in the future clearing LV.12 charts... Anyways I'm getting a legacy cab (the resident one you played on) that's been made since 1998. The new one, the lightning model, was made like in 2020 when Heroic Verse aired

As a long-time Bemani fan, you nailed this review right on the head. A couple things to note. 1. Yes the upgrades of the Lightning model make for a better playing experience but the lack of tactile feedback with the effector sliders and the lack of an scrolling LED ticker makes the presentation more plain. I understand why they made these changes (Less mechanical parts to service is good for operators), but the LED ticker displayed romanized-versions of the Japanese songs and it was a means for players to learn how to pronounce the Japanese song names at the arcade. I wish they would add that back in the Lightning cab's touch screen interface. 2. I feel your pain about the lack of actual club music/hard techno tracks in the modern IIDX games. The music selection has definitely gotten more dull overall compared to anything pre IIDX19, but every version still has its memorable tracks. I highly recommend deep-diving into the OST's of the first 10 styles and even all the 5-key OST's because you will see an era where Konmai really put forth the effort to give a wide variety of genres, as well as music that is easy to consume outside of the games.

Awesome to see a video on IIDX, hope this video shows up on peoples radars! I am pretty much a baby to IIDX (got eased into it by my gf and started playing around Heroic Verse/Bistrover), but man, is it such an addicting game. I do agree with your opinion on the aesthetics, that was definitely one of the things that hooked me in (Bistrover has such a beautiful style, although Happy Sky has my heart with its such clean look). Hope to see more rhythm game videos from you.

Also just so you know, resident and Epolis aren’t exclusive to those specific cabinets. Before Epolis came out, resident was also on the Lightning model cabinet, it’s just that when the Epolis came out in the US, only the lightning models got the update, so the old legacy models were stuck on resident. However in Japan, there was an upgrade kit released for the old legacy cabs, so you can find Epolis on both kinds of cabinets now.

if you ever get back to playing resident (somehow) theres a setting that increases the timing windows, i believe it's called "expand judge" and you can enable it by pressing 9 in that settings menu when you hold down start on the song select screen. i think they removed it in epolis for whatever reason
