@BozhidarS personal preference but if you get it wet and allow to dry again it will shrink. So ensure to keep it Strunk up before drying if you want to avoid it shrinking

@@DanielSturge Thanks! I didn't use the frame technique for this hide (first one I ever did) and it did shrink a little bit, but all and all I like the result! I might wash and rehydrate it to get it more souple and frame it so that it's easier to thin as there is some membrane I have to get rid of still...

They can have the same parasites as wild pork. People tend to be over cautious with it. The main parasites is a micro parasite call tricanosis and it's killed when cooked and held at 137degress. Most cook it to 160 to be sure. Again same as wild pork. Like any animal they can have of other parasites like tape worm but that goes even for deer and moose. I've got upwards to about 20 bears I've killed and eaten and had one that had parasites in the meat. She was a sick sow who got stuck in my trap. There were worms in the meat and she was going into winter with zero fat on her. I did her a favor

@mspahn1967 burns for about an hour or more. I've used it in tents but always had some form of ventilation. Alcohol burns very clean but gives off some moisture. And obviously it burns oxygen, so just be sure you have ventilation for the air to replace itself. Only times it smokes is when it's burning out because the vapers are not wicking very good from the tissue so it starts to char

@rares_21 they are omnivores so a bear by a salmon river would have a completely different taste than ones that eat fawns. As for these bears here they are almost completely berry fed. So they taste like sweet pork. Maybe a bit of roast beef flavor.

Someone does not thin it too much because it's a rug and it's not recommended for longevity as thinner hides wear and slip much faster

@dreadedking24 I appreciate your comment. I never enjoy that part. But I have to put meat in the freezer, so emotions have to be put aside when you do this kind of hunting/trapping. End result is a managed bear population and food. Everywhere I hunt bears have an extremely healthy population. But yes. A big part of me wants to let go when they are like that. I try my best to show respect by using it all. Fat, meat, bones and I just made rugs. Nothing goes to waste
