Things like this are real interesting not boring, It's good to learn how to secure up doors and although wood isn't perfect I love it as you can do more with it and add far more to it for security than terrible PVC and Compostie doors. Always get a hardwood frame and door pressure treated and they wont warp etc. I have on my door added 4x2 barricades for far more security. If you want to know more on securty for wood doors then make sure you look at American security professionals as they know all the best tricks to defeat burglar attacks. The americans have been doing bars and steel framing additions for a long time.

COBRA CAL double bolt locks are better and bigger. also look at internal fram dog hinges for outward opening doors.

A Yale night latch is much better as you can lock it from inside without a key using just the latch button. Also, I've found the button on this lock to be quite fiddly.

SOLUTION!! If you are locked from inside, push the black button like thing down. You will be able to unlock yourself..!! Happened to me..!!

You’ve made me realise that my locksmith is a shyster who stiffed me with a ‘new lock’ is needed. The new lock has now locked me in and I now know why!

How can I disable the deadlock? This seems like an unsafe feature. I hadn't realised that I'd bought a deadlocking model until I couldn't open the door. Imagine if the place had been on fire! Knowing how to disable would save me having to buy a new lock (again). It's a week old and I'm gutted! UPDATE - to others that this might help. I've worked out that if you take the backset off the door, misalign the arrows and reinstall, it disables the deadlock. It took me a couple of tries and possibly you have to turn it 1.5 times (?) maybe? Didn't work on my first attempt, and then did on my second. Hope that helps someone.

this is such a silly design - thank you for pointing it out can you recommend a smart lock for this night latch - the one Yale sell has no manual key entry in case the battery runs out and the one simpled sell is just too protruding

I don’t recommend this lock to anyone I bought the gold version for all my new flats Every single 1 failed over a course of 6-18 months They are total crap and not cheap! I can’t fit new locks of another brand now because it will totally ruin my very costly doors

Thank you for the advice. The latch on my ERA stopped working and when I took the plate off, I discovered the spring lying loose. Do you know where I can get a replacement spring? Sorry, I know its a noddy request but simple to replace rather than buy a brand new one. Thanks in advance.

This exact lock has just jammed on me, I can move the handle in both directions a little but then it just jams and won't move any further, I can't open it internally with the key or from outside with the key. I assume my option now is to call out a local locksmith or is there a way to free it somehow?

Why WD40? It’s a water dispersant that will gunk up and become very sticky over time. Surely dry graphite or silicone is better?
