Designing a sad robot (by folding paper)
I wanted to make a robot, but there are so many ways to do that! In the past, tackling projects with vague goals has left me aimlessly meandering. I wanted to avoid that this time, so I created a silly little limitation to help guide me: the robot I design has to be something I can build out of paper in the real world.
In this video I used Blender, the Paper Model add-on, Rebelle 7, and Substance Designer, Substance Painter, and Substance Sampler.
Thanks for watching :)

Making 3D animation look painterly (it's easier than you think)

In this video, I'll go over a surprisingly simple way to make your stylized 3D renders feel like a painting. I do it by painting over Object Space Normal Maps, which is not as scary as it sounds. This technique allows us to capture the feeling of a 2D painting while maintaining the flexibility of 3D. I used Blender, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, and Rebelle to make the stylized tea ket...
After was way better, it felt way less crowded and didn't draw my attention as much
Please could you show us how to do this in Substance Painter ?
Man, that is some heavy 𝓥𝓸𝓬𝓪𝓵 𝓕𝓻𝔂.
A good game to get inspiration from when it comes to Faraway objects and stuff like that would be dark souls but that's if you're going through insane detail and making it seem like any part of the world is available so grain of salt I suppose
Wow, super cool! Thanks for sharing!
before > after
Here's a little comment
I like what happens when the things
I think it would be fun to be a library too... we are the same you and I
Yes it does look more cohesive 😊 thank you for your beautiful artwork
it does
The detail doesn't matter. It feels the same, "feels" because they are indeed look different but they feel the same
I think it actually looks better with the 2d billboards
Tthis is such a cool technique
I'm gonna need a full tutorial stat, this looks incredible and with the right instruction it looks like a relatively accessible project as well!
bro the quality in his freaking first tutorial!
I'm having an absolute blast
After looks better
How do u do that
just blurr them lol
I like them both, but I preferred the first one >:)
The second does a better job of imitating "bokeh" in my opinion
theyre appearing to be trees
I have a problem when I hook up the normal image texture to normal some things get really dark, but before they weren't.
I fill like the 2d version seems further away form the camera
now they look like random colored trees
your missing the roads that is why it looks weird
First one is not bad, but compared to it the second one does look nicer I think!
second one is way better.
New worse.
Idk I don't like neither because of the clutter of too many houses. I know maybe that's more "accurate" but it goes against the principle of simplifying. I think I like more the first option but they would need to be less.
What ive learned the deatail matters but a deatail never makes or breaks any work if tge core idea is good. If you use creative techniques and focus only on the deatails but the core idea is bad ull only impress other artists
If you want it to look like an illustration then the new version is best
I feel like the before is better simply because it help identify them as houses when you see the windows and door. But that just me.
Before is definitely better
Looks awesome, but what was the point of painting it IRL with gauche if you’re going to just change the color and repaint digitally? Seems like extra unnecessary work
The second one definitely feels more cohesive with the style you want, the shadows and perspective feel out of place with the simple style od the mountain. It is lacking structure on the houaes though
Before
Ermmm add Gaussian blur?
Render the modeled houses as a png then import them in the background so it would technically just be one plane
I love him. Like, so much. He's so cute. Like I want to be his best friend. He looks like a little introverted extrovert robot who is good at giving gifts and being genuinely thoughtful, also like he's a good listener but bad with advice. Like me!
Disagree
No roads?
Maybe one reason that they might still have problem settling into the background is that they retain definite shape while still being so far that it should be hard to. Maybe adding more of a depth of field or a simple background blur of the further houses could improve the feel of depth?
I like the principle, but I feel the later houses stand out a lot more. Maybe it is because they are areas with bright plain, vivid colors. Maybe decreasing the lightness and saturation would help
I liked the first one
I prefer after. Looks a lot more picture book-y. Yeah, it seems like they are more distracting, but that's just because you are making us focus on it right now. The after is MUCH better imo
After is better
The first one looks waaay better
No way, the before looks so much better
