Life was better then...quality of life better. You had friends, no cell phones or computers to waste your time with, and girls oh boy girls and music. We were healthy. I'm 75 now and don't waste time looking back but now and then?

Took martial arts from his dad in Garden Grove. I would often hitch hike with my board down Brookhurst to the beach. I would often sit in awe by the HB pier as David made shooting the pier so ridiculously easy. He was someone I admired.

I remember that poster of Paul Strauch at haliewa pulling that cheater five-I used to call it pulling a “strauch” I gotta admit it was my favorite move it is such a classic I stared at that poster over my desk everyday

As a young grome drowing up in HB David was one to watch, he held our respect as a surfer because he was a shop owner and a brand you could see surfing daily.

David Nuuhiwa one of the most stylish hot dog surfers ever. Always in smooth fluid flight and in perfect trim. His surfing makes average surf conditions magical.

The first surfing references were found in Polynesia. Cave painting from the 12th Century show people riding on waves. In the course of seafarings, Polynesians brought surfing to Hawaii and the sport went viral. Surfing in Hawaii wasn't only a sport but also an important part of the religion.

Love that you are doing the very same thing! (from a boomer who grew up surfing early 60’s CA, 60’s NS Oahu & early 70’s Oz … who went onto other things … and now at 73 want to go back to doing the same thing!)

Reminds of Dora

My mom used to surf Malibu 50’s early 60’s … never had any issue with Dora because she never took off in front of him or anyone. However, she noted that there were guys out there with razor blades inserted into the tips of their boards … so if you took off in front of them they would not hesitate to slice you up … and had a scoring system with your head being the highest score.

Bondi boy Mick Dooley ripped, as did another Bondi boy Bonza Conneelly who won the jnr title who wasn't featured.

Any footage of my uncle Bonza who won 65 Bells, he beat all these guys
