Coming here for solitude makes a lot of sense, it's a great place for it. Unfortunately we didn't have a ton of time to go on many trails but we saved the ones you mentioned for next time. Thanks so much 😊

You know I'm not sure if they are technically petrified or not. Online says to be petrified means that minerals have replaced all the organic material. Since there were little crabs living in the tree trunks I would assume they're not petrified. Maybe just preserved in salt water.

We felt the same way, the trees are very special. The turtles were awesome to get to see you close Jan, a few of them were so large it almost didn't seem real! The slave trades are a dark part of history for sure but it's nice that they have created these exhibits so we can see how it used to be. So glad you enjoyed it 🙂

@@RileyRoams yes those were large turtles. Probably very heavy too, especially because of the shield on the back. The exhibits about the slave trade can make people aware of the very bad circumstances that the African people had to live in.

@@RileyRoams with only being an hour away, it is a totally different biosphere of water. Lots of history. Alligators and the old cartoon character Pogo!

Sounds like a really interesting place. We had to look up Pogo but that's quite a cute little character 😄

@@RileyRoams they have a small track train to ride through the swamp or a boat ride. Can get very up close to some alligators. I used to live in the area., for over 20 years. Loved St Simons and Jekyll.

We went there right after we landed and it was a great way to relax after a flight. I even fell asleep on the edge of the lagoon! Haha

We should have gotten a piece of fish but at the time it didn't grab us, I'm sure it would have been really good!

Definitely take the time to do it! Going up on that trail to see the different states was a lot of fun and you don't need a 4x4 to do it.

It was a lot of fun exploring that neat bridge and the potato was out of this world!

They were massive! They had so many different options and you could also make almost any sandwich into a potato topping, very cool. The rain has been relentless but we try to do as much as we can. I'm glad your trip is not being rained out!
