CSX 2024 Kentucky Derby Special | Lexington to Louisville
In early May of 2024 I chased the CSX Derby Special from Lexington to Louisville. This train runs every year taking executives over the former L&N “Old Road” from R.J. Corman’s Lexington yard to anchorage where it takes the LCL down into Louisville where it terminates at Osborne yard. My camera I was using at the time was unfortunately having focus issues that’s why it goes out of focus at certain parts of the video. My next videos will be recorded with a new camera I just got, so expect higher quality videos going forward. Thanks for watching!

On May 20th, 2022, I got up and found out that former L&N/Family Lines System C30-7 #7067 was on a CSX manifest and had left Cincinnati earlier that morning. A nifty little operation, definitely with some classy rolling stock and power. I actually was going to join up on the crew of this road at one point, but later decided to move up to New York instead where I now serve as a Brakeman on the Adirondack.

Rj corman bought a small fleet of new big mainline diesels this year. This may be two of them. They just keep growing . sd70m-2 those are beastly units. i doubt ill see them because the sd40s are probably gonna last forever in Berea.

I was at the crossing at 1803. First one they was blowing at. My ears are still ringing after that rj corman train. Was able to catch both of them and rj coming back.

Whoa!! It's been some years since I checked out KRM. I volunteered in the shops and was in the engineer training class in the late 90s. I remember reading about them, or the KRHC looks like, restoring the 2716 some years ago, but wow! And a Clinchfield EMD on point and an L&N GP9 in tow! Thank you for putting this up!
