Ringer Thomas
Registrace 30. 05. 2019
Hello and welcome to my channel. My name is Thomas, and as you can see, I am a church bell ringer. I have always been interested in the sound of bells ever since I was very young.
This channel covers my hobby in full detail, and I would like to share my experience with the world on why I enjoy bell ringing and why you yourself could be a ringer too. What you will see on here is various visits I do, whether it is a quarter peal or general ringing. It covers pretty much of what my ringing life is all about. So I would suggest you subscribe so you don't miss out on the experience 😉

Nice sounding bells. I'm a bell ringing myself.
Excellent video. Lovely 8
Well done on the tenor Thomas!! Can’t wait to ring here this month😊.
Some nice ringing but the bells are not the best sounding.
These sound great
@@railtransportvlogsnsw7775 I'm guessing you are a ringer in Sydney
@@Steven_Rowe I live in Melbourne but yes I’ve rung in Sydney a few times :)
@@railtransportvlogsnsw7775 My dad was a bell hanger for Whitechapel till 1972 when we came to Aus. Did few jobs here Hung St Mary's Cathedral in 1986 also took out the old 6 at Parramatta, they were sent back to Whitechapel, returned and two trebles added to make an 8
As soon as i saw the headstocks I though GILLETTS. I checked Dove and sure enough they are G&J I think Gilletts made beautiful bells. This must be one of the last bells cast, im not sure when they stopped casting bells, i thought it was around 1950, but these are 1954
These were their last complete ring, and what a masterpiece it was. The only thing that let them down now is that they were rehung by E&S which makes them slow turning and they are a bit quiet in the ringing room but otherwise very ringable and lovely sounding
@RingerLuca651 I looked at Gilletts and if this was indeed the last change ringing peal they cast their last bells in 1957 either as clock or Carillon bells. Very sad they stopped as they made very lovely sounding bells
@@Steven_Rowe Did you ever ring on the steel octave at Randwick?
@@RingerLuca651 I never did, also steel bells are terrible sounding.
trebles and 5th mears and stainbank 3nrd 4th and tenor ellis knight
trebles are gilett and johnson 2nd henry knight 3 and 4th also henry knight 6th john warner and sons 7th thomas swain and tenor 24-3-27 ellis and henry knight
They are nice sounding bells and the ringing was very good, a joy to listen to just as it should be.
I hope you get to ring ar St Ann's South Tottenham, my old man hung two new Trebles in 1957 when I was 4, his name Ernest J Rowe is on the 2nd. RIP dad, I loved you so much.
I've not rung there. But would love to!
Amazing sound. Thank you very much for the tour.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful bells and a lovely old cemetery.
Thank you very much.
You are welcome!
Thank you very much.
You are welcome!
As the swing increased, when I was pulling the backstroke all the way to the floor, I'd add a little jump as the rope went up, so I could add my body weight to the pull. I could raise my tower's 16-3-27 cwt tenor in 13 pulls if we were in a hurry ;-) It didn't ever go up wrong, so there was no need to check at the beginning. The 5th at the time, 7th now, was much harder to get up right.
Where is this?
Brilliant video 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you 👍
Wilma?
Wilma what?
@@RingerThomas Wilma Diqfit!
0:58 my favourite mini ring
These bells sound awful. You would expect Royalty to have nicer bells? Thoughts on this Thomas, I am interested to know what you think
I understand that some people might think the bells at Windsor Castle sound awful and that you'd expect Royalty to have nicer bells. Personally, I like the bells. The growly sound perfectly matches the old-style look of the Castle. A bland, modern ring wouldn't suit Windsor Castle at all!
@@RingerThomas I think a modern Taylor 12 would suit perfectly. Something like Ballymena or Broughton in Furness
Ei, isso é muito legal. Nunca imaginei encontrar um canal assim.
Amazing video and tower and bells these sound lovely would love to ring here once always wanted to ring at the muncipal building at Liverpool but it got transformed into a hotel called the Muncipal when i had that trip to Liverpool this week tried to arrange a muncipal building ring but apparently only muncipal hotel maintenance team is allowed in the tower so the people who made it a hotel have prevented the 4 change ringing bells and the hour bell that can be manually rung from being rung hope nothing like that happens to any other towers
I honestly really like these, a lovely grand old sound to them. Do you know if there are any chimes on the clock?
Yes, there is a carillon drum above the ringing chamber, which plays the tune St. Davids at certain hours of the day.
Nice bells and ringing there, I only heard these bells for real once in Windsor. Another tower I always been interested with is with Wraysbury.
Cool, thanks!
I rung there before, these are lovely bells. The old Tower captain who is now dead hated bob triples being rung here so ringing such method here is probley cursed.
I'll organize PB7 there next time 😊
I used to ring for weddings there in the 1960s. A fabulous 8 along with St James Clerkenwell.
There's a certain sound that I often notice at St Mary's in Sydney where a certain "clattery" reverb makes the bells sound grander than they really are. And not in any negative way, I like it.
Indeed, some Whitechapel bells are just bland and boring. But on bigger rings, that blandness turns into power!
Love the echo of these bells, certainly nice sounding.
They are!
Well rung. RIP ringer
Some beautifully struck ringing for the memory of a ringer. So sorry not to be able to ring with you guys on this occasion.
Thanks for this recording of my lovely home tower
No problem!
Love these bells, can't wait to ring on these.
Glad you like them!
@@RingerThomas certainly lovely sounding.
Some really lovely ringing on a lovely sounding peal. The church lloks a bit unconventional though, but definitely a cracking 12.
Your striking has come on a lot compared to what I've seen before. You should be very proud of that. If I might give a small bit of helpful advice, just hold off a tad more when you're ringing towards the end of the chance in 5ths 6ths 7ths and 8ths place. Just a hair is all it needs, but otherwise very solid ringing. Well done!
Thank you! I like to think I take ringing seriously, and this has made my day.
The bell weighs 50.2 long cwt (56.3 short cwt)
Excellent striking btw 😊
A good bell founder in their time, a very pleasant ring of bells!
I haven't been here either. I think these bells are quire nice sounding,
What was the reason for ringing continental on these bells? Cool Bells and ringing. I know someone in Grantham did a similar thing for tribute to Notre Dame just after their fire.
Rang Erin once last year, just felt like Stedman without the tension of getting the right frontwork.
Ringer Thomas thank you so much for this great vid. I must visit St Mary Le Bow and Bow Lane again soon. It's a great loss that Rev. George Bush has moved on. The welcome is first rate at St MLB too!
Please do!
Where you on a ringing outing or something? Lovely bells for this one too.
This was the competition tower for the South East England Regional Youth Striking Contest
@@francescogreenslade7793 Cheers for that. This is another tower I never rung at.
Another church that I haven't been to same as North Nymns. Lovely bells.
Thanks for ringing there I always wondered what these bells sounded like.
No problem!
What a nice ring, and is that the clock mechanism I could see, and do you know if it strikes just the hour or the quarters too?
It is a quarter striking clock which I believe strikes the ting tang quarters. Although I could be wrong on that.
@@DylanSmith_15 Might you record them next time you're in Nottingham?
There are no clock chimes at SMV Nottingham (or indeed any church in the city center), though there used to be prior to these bells being installed in 1935. The clock mechanism only controls the clock faces on the outside of the tower - no bells are attached.
@@10walke I guess the Council House does the Quarter Chiming. That is odd for such a large city like Nottingham
I stand corrected!
Decent 12 - would happily come back
I just had to hear that wonderful ringing again. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Wondeful ringing. I just love St Mary Le Bow!
Me too!
I was standing right behind the camera
Were you filming or were you stood behind the man or woman who was filming
On these bells here in York, you need to work and pull on the hand strokes and lift the backstrokes. Otherwise the bells will readily drop.
Wunderbare Glocken und Läuten! Ich danke Ihnen für das Teilen
Gern geschehen!
