Before Boston Landing opened, I shaved 40 minutes off my commute by going from Back Bay to Yawkey and grabbing a bus from there. I have a very special place in my heart for the commuter rail.

Why the fascination with Calgary Transit? 🤔 It's not the best in the world. It is not even in the top ten. To get a better picture of Canadian transit system, we should take a look at Vancouver and Toronto transit systems. They are more efficient and better than Calgary Transit. Sorry.

Two new lines and one expansion were not mentioned. Both the San Fernando Valley and the Southeast Gateway lines have had their final EIRs approved and should start construction in 1 or 2 years. The extension of the East LA E line section further East should have it's final EIR approved ahortly as well. Starting construction in about 2 years. These three projects should be done within 8-10 years from now. Very exciting. We'll have 10 lines by then. 6 light rail, 2 subway, and 2 BRTs if not more. It could be 11 lines if the Sepulveda Pass line could sneak in there, too if it gets fast tracked adding a 3 heavy rail subway line to the mix. It would make LA Metro the second largest metro system in the USA behind NYC. To increase the number of rail lines by 50% in 10 years would be amazing!

The people criticizing Houston for not have a larger light rail system should do a little research on the politics of transit in that city and the powerful people in the US Congress who cut off funding specifically to prevent expansion of the system. I suggest they google Tom Delay and John Culberson. To the people who keep saying Houston should stop building freeways: It’s the State of Texas that designs, locates and builds those freeways.

…initial sections opened in June 1996. That plus serving a population of over 6 million makes this an awful, well, train wreck. Its good something had developed - but wow they have a long way to go - and light rail is not going to be enough to accommodate major volumes of passengers in the long term - if the majority of people switched to using transit, for example.

The Metropolitan Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is the principle public transport operator in the Atlanta metropolitan area. MARTA was formed by an act of the GeorgiaGeneralAssembly in 1965. MARTA was originally proposed as a rapid transit agency for Fulton, Dekalb,Clayton, Gwinnett, Coɓb counties. Formed in 1971 strictly as a bus system. Today, MARTA is composed of a heavy rail rapid transit system, a light rail system ( Streetcar with limited service in the Atlanta dontown area). MARTA operates a neckwork of 113 bus routes with 8787 bus stops linked to a rapid transit system consisting of 48 miles of rail track with 38 subway stations on 4 rail lines. RED LINE( NorthWest-South line), GOLD LINE(NorthEast-South LINE) BLUE LINE(West-East LINE). BOTH RED and GOLD South LINES leave/travel to Airport Station. MARTA operates primarily in the boundaries of Fulton, Dekalb, and Clayton counties and maintains bus🚌 service to two designations in neighboring Cobb County (Six flags and the Cumberland transfer center next to the cumberland mall). MARTA is the 8th largest rapid transit system in the United States by ridership (64,306,800 total 2023). In addition to fare collection, the MARTA budget is funded by a 1% sale tax from Fulton, Dekalb, and Clayton counties. MARTA has never received any operational funding from the state of georgia. MARTA is the largest public transportation agency in the United States not to receive state funding for operational expenses. It's hard for me as a military war veteran to understand how the Georgia General Assembly expects Atlanta to continue to develop, maintain and update a regional transit plan, incorporating, existing and future transit services, facilities, projects in order to privide a coordinated region wide approach and enhance connectivity for riders. The ATL Regional Transit Plan or ARTP, serves as the foundation for transit planning in the Atlanta region for the next several decades, ensuring transit projects work together to create a seamless network and customer experience regardless of transit operator. MARTA is the 8th largest transit Atlanta, Fulton and Dekalb taxpayers have paid into the transit system. Our south suburban(Clayton county)brothers and sisters taxpayers voted the 1% sale tax to join the MARTA transit community in November 2014. The MARTA Agency announced 4 new expansion locations on existing rail lines(Krog Street/Hulsey Yard, Joseph E Broone, Armour Yards, and Murphy Crossing partner with assistance from the city of Atlanta in the coming years. These expansions will be well received and needed. May MARTA continue to expand into our southern airport Clayton county in the near future. MAY GOD watch over and guide MARTA into its expansion plans 🙏

Great video! The biggest missed opportunity was right after WW1. That east/west streetcar subway would have connected 2 west side lines from Detroit and west 25th and 3 on the east that travelled under Euclid. One line would follow Euclid, one went up mayfield and a 3rd would have gone down east 40th and onto broadway. Cleveland would be a very different city if this or any of the other big plans had come to fruition.
