    Hello! This looks amazing and I’m inspired to make some shelves for myself! I was just wondering, because the wood bars are kinda thin, did you find that it was enough to support heavier shelves? I’m thinking of shelves filled entirely with books. Thank you!

    No no. No. No. No. Do not put plastic in your planter. Fill it up with stuff like grass etc.

      Plastic bottles are completely fine. They’re not going to break down and they actually mean it requires less water.

      I would have filled them with garden materials if I had them but I only have a patio. Thin wooden planters like this aren't permanent and will break down long before the bottles can leach anything into the soil ❤️

    Hi there! This was a lovely video, I really enjoyed it! I just wanted to add - I wouldn't really add plastic containers to the bottom of the planter, especially if you are growing edible food because chemicals can leach into the soil and contanimate! Instead any old logs, plant clippings, even grass from moving the lawn will work and this is better because it will decompose and provide further nutrients. 😀

    • @jojatown
      @jojatown Před 8 měsíci

      Thank you for the feedback and I'm glad you liked it 😊 I totally get that it's not for everyone. For me there were few disadvantages for using plastic as the thin wood planter itself would break down long before the plastic does. You just have to be mindful of the type of plastic you use - food grade is the best kind and doesn't leech any chemicals into the soil. It came down to convenience as I don't have any branches or logs to use. I have heard that when wood breaks down it makes the soil more acidic and uses up nitrogen but I don't think it would make a significant difference and I would definitely use wood if that's what I had around. I get why it's not for everyone though as it's not a natural material ❤️

    Good job! You guys did awesome. The only thing I cringed on was putting the plastic in you planter box. It can break down I. The long run and leach chemicals into your plant.

    • @jojatown
      @jojatown Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks for the feedback I'm glad you liked it 😊 Also thanks for bringing this potential issue. When selecting materials, I tried to look into options that would be safe for the plants and fit my budget. Most of the the plastic I used is food-grade, which is considered inert and non-toxic. Studies University of Wisconsin-Madison and Rutgers University have found low risk of chemical leaching from this type of plastic into soil when used in raised beds or greenhouses. However, I did hastily add a couple other containers without checking what type of plastic they were made of. In the future, I will be more mindful about only adding containers I know are food-grade. Also, the wooden walls of the planter would likely decay and need replacing long before there would be a risk of chemical leaching from the plastic. This would be different if they were permanent beds. For now, I feel comfortable using food grade plastic in a responsible way, but I totally respect that this isn't for everyone and it's good to be cautious about how we grow our food. I'm always open to learning more so thank you for bringing up this important point 🙂

    I've heard many experienced gardeners say, fill up the entire container w SOIL, not plastic, not trash. Organic, in an aerobic environment. Sharply cut gravel is fine for drainage. Rock is a common part of nat'l land. But, not 2-ltr plastic bottles. The ratio of plants:soil s/b sensible. Not a whole bunch of soil for 1 bitty plant, in other words. Follow gardening instructions from real, proven growers, nurseries, gardeners. Not You Tube-only-qualified.

    We have had this bench czcams.com/users/postUgkxNuLbiXpLQ-mKH5NlyjrNe88hiCk2N3Cg for five years now and it is still holding up strong with minimal signs of wear! So much so that I decided to get another one to store other stuff. The first one is still beautiful, strong and is easy to clean. It’s been in our living room and we store toys and blankets in it and it really holds quite a bit of stuff. I purchased a similar one two years ago from Aldi and let me tell you that one fell apart in less than six months of use. Get this one if you’re looking. Seriously worth it. Five years already and I can’t believe it looks this good and has held up for the price! Awesome bench, the new one I just got is identical.
