Nice review! I have the blue version of this watch. I really like the 24h functionality in winter when it's dark most of the time. The power reserve is a bit annoying yes, i treat it as if it wasn't an automatic and give it a full wind every morning. For the price (i got it around 2 years ago, roughly 60-70€) it's really great!

Just bought this watch and couldn't be any more disappointed. I hate it. Not because it's not a good watch, or it doesn't do what it says, but it's so much smaller than I expected after watching so many reviews. I really get caught out by the use of macro lenses used by watch reviewers. These square G-Shocks are very small on the wrist. And I can hardly see the writing on the face - it's like microfiche writing - you seriously need a magnifying glass to read it. And the numbers are much smaller than those on my W-218H. I bought this because it has the auto-light function for when I'm playing sport at night time, but I reckon I'll sell it and just stick to the W-218H, so much easier to read.

I’ve found that a bit of WD-40 on a Q-tip, applied around the outer threading helps if the crown has a rough feeling to it. It’s helped me in a few occasions. Great review.

The light glows in the dark should be Green. How can i get the one with Green Light on it with Solar.

You said that the Seiko 5 has the crown in the 4 o'clock position, but you showed one Seiko 5 with the crown at the 3 o'clock position and the dial shows the Seiko 5 logo.

These Avi-8 watches are a breath of fresh air in the world of non-Swiss automatics. I just love the fact they actually bothered to find a way to include a story behind each model, despite not having the long heritage enjoyed by Swiss automatics. This one for example is a tribute to an actual RAF Hawker Hurricane pilot of Sqn 303. Maybe it's all just arbitrary but I gotta admit it adds some interesting depth to an otherwise unknown watch, turning it into something of a conversation piece. The dials are well-finished too, ticking all the boxes along the way. I got this and the Hitchcock model at run-of-the-mill Japanese automatic prices, so yeah... why bother with your typical Seiko when you can have something more interesting? Very fascinating stuff from a flieger watch brand that differentiates itself by the unique way it embraces the romance of aviation.

Max Bill did not design the Chronoscope. It was inspired by his design but not designed by him. Also the hand winding (featured here noticeable because of the word 'Design' on the dial) originally and currently is made in 34mm, but the automatic was made originally in 36mm. Those original models are very hard to find now, especially in good condition as most collectors have snapped them up. The Max Bill range was only resurrected around 1998/9 by Junghans, and changed around 2007 with a the hands having full length lume and the back having additional screws . Prior to this the lume was only on the last half of the hands and the back was snap on. These earlier models also had straight ETA movements and the newer having Junghans modified ETA and now Sellita. Since 2020 Sapphire is an option (you can send your watch back to Junghans and they will fit a new sapphire glass) and currently models come with it as standard if you choose.
