Great lesson, on this pretty much essential R&B standard. Billy Buttler was one of the absolute greats. You broke down and explained all the great collection of Jazz Blues licks Billy used really well. His solo on Honky Tonk Pt 2 is also a brilliant lesson in cool logic! Your extension to the solo is something else. I love it. I think it’s really too much for the song and very indulgent but those dissonant notes from outside scales sound fantastic and make for an inspiring video.

I love these Ribot lessons, i've seen him live so many times (not as much as richard thompson) and i've Listened to him and Django so much that i can "hear" what you doing and actually play it.I can't say that about most of you lessons.I've said it before and will say it again, you are an amazing teacher and your playing is right up there up with my favorite guitarists.You are the king of tone and taste!

Thanks, Alex. I'm not very familiar with Marc Ribot's playing, but this seems like a good entry point - and you always make the lesson about so much more than just learning the song. I found your solo a great complement to Marc's, building on, and digging deeper into, the tension between the notes and the chords. The 1-2-b3-5 pattern is the main motif in "Alone Together" composed in 1932 (though I'm sure it was used many times, in many tunes before that). Any particular reason that pattern is attached to Coltrane's name? All good on ya', e.

I am wondering if anyone out there in Alex's guitar community could comment from experience on how close a Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin would get me to that ES 125 sound. I am lusting after a real one but $2200 for a niche guitar is probably not a trigger I am likely to pull anytime soon. I would appreciate any recomendations. Thanks!
