Iron Maiden were the only band in the 80s that were playing live. Running Free, with the first singer Paul DiAnno Also, in this performance the vocals are live

@@folladordeprostis i cant say. The first time they had to do playback... watch the TOTP Wasted Years, then you know what i mean. But after that they did playback like every other band for whatever reasons
Oh i forgot Wasted Years wasn't TOTP, it was a german tv show, but basically the same

TOTP didn't force them to mime, it's due to the cameras not being able to take the frequencies of a metal band's amps.
Film and TV cameras don't pick up sound.
@@rogershore7189 Thanks for telling me that, I've been playing drums for near 40 years so you want to tell me what the sticks are for, mong? I also worked with the BBC and the 2 reasons you didn't play live on TOTP were: 1. it'd fuck with the equipment 2. They didn't want you getting it wrong and have to do multiple takes.

@@rogershore7189 1. Equating what instrument I play with my intellect is a bit childish, especially when you can't spell "affected". 3. A few rock bands HAVE fucked up the cameras with their amps in the past. Don't worry Rog, I'm sure you'll get it right one day.
@@Hellwyck 1. Funnily enough, I can spell affected. Did I mix up two of the most commonly confused words in the English language? I did. Am I going to lose sleep over it? Absolutely not, especially as someone that use the word “mong” as a pejorative tried to call me childish. 2. For future reference, this is the number that comes between 1 & 3. 3. Do you have examples where cameras were affected by frequencies? Also, have a think about if you fully understand the difference between frequency and volume. Cameras can be affected by the volume a band is playing (SPL causing cameras to vibrate) but that is a very different thing from them being affected by frequency.
Yes, Bruce is singing live but the rest of the band is miming. This was a fairly common practice on Top of the Pops - another variant was for the drummer to play live and the rest of the band (including the singer) to mime. I think Maiden did do one or two fully live performances on TOTP over the years though.
Another thing is that the band always hated to perform songs miming, they tried to avoid it most of the time
