Oliver Twist (1982 TV movie) George C. Scott, Tim Curry, Michael Hordern
The classic Dickens tale of an orphan boy who escapes the horrors of the orphanage only to be taken in by a band of thieves and pickpockets.
Starring: George C. Scott, Tim Curry, Michael Hordern
Director: Clive Donner
I own absolutely nothing. This belongs to the CBS.
I wanted to see all of the Oliver Twist movies ever made. Unfortunately this one was not available for purchase or streaming anywhere online. I found it thanks to a single DVD copy which happened to be available on Amazon. I am posting this strictly for the purpose of preserving history.
It is my firm belief that when media is locked away in a vault where nobody can enjoy it, instead of being made available for sale or otherwise, everybody loses. If you are a representative of the CBS reading this, I plead with you to allow this video to remain online with advertising, or to make it available for purchase on international movie distribution platforms such as iTunes before taking it down. If this had been internationally available via official channels, I would never have posted it. Thank you in advance.

Fun reference, the Mexican American war of 1846, was arbitrary and many northern states opposed its aims and origins, one of the pro war advocates and newspapers, I believe the Manifest Destiny Newspaper Company in New York, stated in support and this is where the Oliver Twist reference comes in play that quote “But still, notwithstanding these accessions, our Manifest Destiny is not yet accomplished. Our national appetite instead of being appeased by the territorial tit-bits it has had to tickle it , is only sharpened, and like in the novel Oliver Twist, is asking for more.” In other words while northerners and the rule of law may prohibit or delay it, like Oliver, our desire for expansion and security will push us to “ask for more land for expansion sir” and it will expand until it meets a structural barrier, or a force equal to itself, which there is none on the North American continent to prevent Americans destiny!

A novel that illustrates how poverty nurtures crime. Time hasn’t changed much.

mm, same as power and fortune. the same coin where either side can star either bad or good and still end badly. What we learn in life is that good is hardly ever easy, and at the same time it kind of is because of how simple it is, a lot of effort is needed and that carries it's own kind of pain. With fortune and power it leaves very little to be learned from hard work which is why wealthy parents often **or should often** keep it from corrupting their kids because a life of ease will leave a child defenseless against loss and even more so growing up, what a person gains in physical value they also lose physical value because the more time you spend pursuing something the less life you have to spend. Spending your life wisely and learning from hard work will lead to appreciation for it, and even with hard work not everyone will win all the time or get exactly what they want. In a few less words while I'm under some amount of influence... speaking of which **just one drink** But you're right, nothing has really changed, the more things change the more they stay the same. And I'm sure even way back, way way back there were similar events that could be compared to today albeit all sides will always make a reason to believe that they are the right one, one way or another and at the expense of others. As a 34 year old father of 3 who's wife has been in jail for over....6 months now, domesticv and she's since been deemed incompetent to stand trial.... having to care for our kids by myself, having been falsely accused and physically, emotionally and mentally injured in the process, working a full time job to pay mortgage, bills and other things.... Do I feel any sort of envy or jealousy for people who aren't going through these things? No. Because I made choices for my life for the right reasons, and I'll stand by that despite unfortunate events that happen, why I chose to include this?.... well, its kind of related I think. I'm still working hard, some basic things being neglected like keeping things clean have suffered but I try, depression works like that I'm sure. but I'm still here and I'm glad for that.

Definitely some differences..... since when did Fagin have the upper hand on Bill Sykes? Good performances though. George C. Scott makes a somewhat more sympathetic Fagin. Almost like Ron Moody, minus the songs. The judge in Dodger's case..... David Savidant unless I'm wrong, He played Fred Elliot on Coronation Street a while back. Tim Curry is always fun to watch, especially as a villain. Blimey! None other than JACOB MARLEY (or the actor who played him.... 1951) as Mr. Brownlow! How wild!

What I always loved about this story is how kind Mister Brownlow and his household are. The way they all came running at 50:34 when Oliver cried out showed how much they cared for him, even having only known him a short time.

Robert Newton in the David Lean version is a far more convincing and frightening Bill Sikes and the murder of Nancy is briefer but truly terrifying.
