My google phone interview experience for Software Engineer
In this video, I am sharing my google phone interview. Google interviews for Software Development engineering are always tricky. Unfortunately, I failed these interviews, but it is always good to share your failure so that you and other people can learn and improve yourself.
Here is the link to my GitHub, where I have uploaded the questions I solved to prepare for the various interviews.

      You can prepare anything from medium to hard. Dfs, Bfs, trees, bst. The questions in Google are tricky so no matter what you prepare, the main thing is you have to find the logic on your own.

    So, here is a quick tip, the interviewer must have found that it was not solvable under the stipulated time, and thus chose to ask that to see if you have done your research, Had you encountered that similar question on the Web, you would have rebutted saying *hey look I know it's not possible, but i am willing to take the challenge together and see how close we can come to find the answer within the time frame.* That my friend should have been your answer. Nothing is straightforward in the FAANG / MAANG interview everything is Jalebi.

    • @thesiliconstreet
      @thesiliconstreet Před 9 měsíci

      I completely agree with your answer. Now working in one of these companies, I am able to understand his motive behind that question. And in real life this is how the problems are in any company. You will have very less idea about the task you will be working on and you have to learn to explore and solve it together. thanks for your comment.

    Thank you very much for this video, it is really helpful! I am struggling with the question of how/where to start? I do not possess any skills needed by the FAANG companies. I am in a completely different backend stream in I.T. for a long time. If I need to start which would be the skill I need to begin learning? I am basically looking for your idea, appreciate your help! The interview process seems to be the middle step provided you already have the skill for the job position, hence I need to start from scratch!

    • @thesiliconstreet
      @thesiliconstreet Před 2 lety

      For Fang companies it's quite straight forward - first thing is your resume it should match with the job you are applying for - assuming you have passed this initial step next is data structures and algorithm. Pick up any language you are comfortable with I will suggest use Python but if you like other language use that one. Learn the core concepts object oriented principles and basics should be done in 3-4 hours but will need some time to get used to it. Next is learn the basics of data structures don't need to go too much in depth just basics are important. Then start solving questions on leetcode. Start from easy then also try to learn the multiple solutions given in there so you know what you are doing. Learn from mistakes and there are some questions with multiple solutions try to learn all of them. Also try to learn time and space complexity.

      @@thesiliconstreet Wow that is a lighting fast response! Thank you one last question, so far when I interviewed people or when I attended interviews for the position I am looking for, first question they ask for is “what is your total experience in your skill set, normally companies look for 5-6 years at least!” In my case I am just a beginner(0 exp), so wouldn’t that knock me out in the screening itself?

    • @thesiliconstreet
      @thesiliconstreet Před 2 lety

      You need to try to convince them. Convert your previous experience into a convincing answer that will show them that your skills are relevant. For example if I worked as a data entry clerk I will try to match the Ms excel data entry skills to data science. For that you need to have knowledge of both sides. It all depends upon how you market yourself and if they ask you questions you should be able to answer them.

I don’t think it’s just the result of the interview they are also looking for background, college etc. or May be the interviewer feedback depends on their mood that day. Yes. There is always a debate about leetcode vs another way to interview but in my opinion leet code kind of questions are the best way to interview. There are many things a interviewer can find out about the candidate when solving these questions. Even if the candidate knows the answer interviewer will know it and he will try to ask different questions.

    I just failed my Google phone screen interview. The problem was medium difficulty at most, and I felt that my solution was good, so I was surprised not to hear back from my recruiter, so I pinged her about a week after the interview and she confirmed that I'd failed. Not only that, she preemptively said that she could not provide feedback regarding what I did right or wrong. I genuinely don't know what I did wrong, no clue. I keep thinking over my memory of the problem statement to see if there was a more efficient solution, but can't come up with anything better.

    • @thesiliconstreet
      @thesiliconstreet Před 2 lety

      Yes. It happens. Also recruiters cannot share the feedback as people can argue with them about the solution. I would suggest do some mock interviews then you will know where you might have made mistakes. Sometimes we don't know what mistakes we make.

    Hello, awesome video thank you for sharing your experience with us. I wanted to apply as an intern to FAANG as a grad student in Comp Sci, my undergrad was in Computer engineering. Do you think that's a smart strategy as compared to applying after graduation from a graduate program? TL;DR should I apply as an intern in a grad program or should I apply to FAANG after graduating from comp sci grad program? Thank you!

    • @thesiliconstreet
      @thesiliconstreet Před 2 lety

      Applying will not hurt so I will say keep applying for internship if you get it is good either way. This is because companies convert can also offer full-time job after internship. If you couldn't get internship then you can always apply through new graduate program. This is really important because if you don't take advantage of both internship or new grad then you will have to prepare very hard for interviews later.
