@@shreddder999 When you look at having a helicopter for fun and personal use, you’ll find yourself flying by yourself 95% of the time. The cost of that extra seat triples the price (in purchase and operating costs). You’ll save so much $$$ per flight hour that when someone wants to go with you, you can simply go rent a 2 or 4 seater for that 5% of the time and come out ahead financially. The Mosquito helicopters are one of the most fun helicopters you can fly. As you can tell by my video’s, these helicopters are very stable but when you want to play, they are pretty agile (FUN). For someone who fly’s for the sheer fun of it or for currency, these helicopters bring a lot of value to the table.

@@dstoreyaviation I agree with all of that, but the point was that the on-screen comment was that the 3 to/ldg made the pilot current- the currency referred to only makes one current to *carry passengers*

A high performance takeoff is a description mainly used in the certified aircraft world for max gross and high DA situations. For the military it is used mainly for FW for vertical flight right after take off. For this experimental helicopter I call it a “performance pull” as I’ve already taken off and flying around. When I do a “performance pull”, I’m verifying just how much actual performance I have left depending on the “DA” when performing demonstration flights. This will tell me what maneuvers I can safely do going forward. On this turbine engine we do not have a torque meter but we have a fuel flow meter so I already have an idea of how much power I’m already using. Hope this helps.

Thanks man. The Mosquito helicopter are great flying helicopters! She gets a thorough safety inspection every year. The beauty of AB Experimental is that the original builder can get the maintenance certificate for that aircraft. Since I’m the builder of the aircraft, I have the FAA maintenance certificate for this aircraft. Cost me nothing but time for all my safety inspections. 👍

@@Piotr-uv2yp The short is CFX did build a 2 seater and flew it. A lot of lessons learned and needed some redesigning. Then Covid hit. Business partner passed away, XE285 needed upgraded, CFX started making own rotor blades, etc. When the time is right, CFX has stated that it would like to start back on the 2 place Mosquito. Until then… Prices? All current accurate prices are listed on the CFX website or one of it’s dealer.

I think they are rated to like 4 G’s but I’ve never pushed it that far! 😂 The pedal turns are a little scary at first because the Mosquito’s use a semi rigid rotor head. I have to keep the rotor head loaded with some collective and don’t use any input on the cyclic until after the pedal turn as I’m pulling more collective in at the bottom. They are actually a lot of fun once you learn how to do them properly. Thanks for watching!

as you got the the highest point and were turning via pedal did you have to drop the collective a bit or was it consistently up during the whole maneuver? dang thats like as good as an as350 lmao yeah i imagine if you pushed it to that limit (4Gs) youd have to get it inspected for your own safety. good stuff man , sick heli @@dstoreyaviation

@@johnstosh6658 I leave the collective up! Because of the teetering floating rotor head (semi-rigid design), the rotor system needs to stay loaded during any maneuvers or mast bumping can occur. Which would be bad…

I’ve heard several helicopter pilot friends say that airplanes are for people that can’t fly helicopters! LOL! It is funny but I also fly and own airplanes. They are just for different missions… Thanks for watching. I’ll have more video’s coming out over the winter and next year for sure!

Oh yeah! 😂 We unroll every roll. You have to remember, that was back during the phase 1 testing of the plane. I was nervous! All I could think about is that I built this airplane in my garage and suddenly started visualizing every nut and bolt in the wings, tail and fuselage. I finally said screw it and went for it. Haven’t stopped since…

Yes. The Mosquito XEL ultralight model is the only one that comes with pontoons. They are not intended for water operations as that requires special training. They are used to meet FAA ultralight requirements only. Thanks for watching!

The only difference electronically on the XET is in 2018 CFX went to the newer MGL iEFIS Lite vs the older Enigma. All of the XE Series helicopters are the same helicopter with different engine options. In 2019/2020 CFX started incorporating the fuel tank access panel on all the kits. Great flying helicopters!!! @@philippeesteban7086 The start sequence on the Mosquito XET is manual start because there is no ECU on the Solar T62-2A1. It has a manual driven FCU and no electronics. @@dstoreyaviation I have had my PPL a long time but haven't flown in many years. I wanted to get a helicopter rating back then but it was too costly. So certain models are considered ultralights and no licence is required?

@@glenpaul3606 The XEL is a “ultralight” model with a MZ202 2-stroke engine. It does have some limitations per the FAA part 103 requirements but it is the same fuselage as the XE, XE290 and XET so they all feel the same in a hover. We still require some helicopter training to keep you safe and for liability purposes.

LOL! Well I do have a smaller cone that I practice with before I go to an event. After playing with the smaller cone and I admit, sometimes getting frustrated, then the larger standard cones seem more fun! Who would have thought that something as fun as playing with safety cones would help with your precision in flying/hovering a helicopter… These Mosquito helicopters really are great little helicopter and one of the most fun to fly. I have only flown in mist or very light rain. Most experimental helicopter kits are not designed for all weather flight, mainly just for VFR.

The turbines are all mechanically governed. Currently the XE and XE290 is manual throttle but the do have adjustable correlation on the collective. There is plans for a governor through the ECU.

One part at a time… Only takes approximately 450 man hours to build which is not much for any helicopter. It’s actually a great kit to build and fly.
