Hi, Im Olly and welcome to my channel.
Join me on my adventure to modify and restore cars. I don't really know what Im doing so just learning along the way!
I regard myself as a car guy so I have no specific manufacturer interest, just drawn to cars I think are cool.
Also appreciate the skill of a good driver and this is an area Id also like to focus and improve on.
I don't take myself too seriously but I do have a very dry sense of humour.

What modifications does my Lotus have?
In this video I cover what modifications my classic Lotus Elise has had over the standard car. I don't believe it to be a lot but it is definitely enough to set the car apart from the others when it comes to going on track. Being that the car is a special edition and a little older now at this stage in the cars life it is about enjoying it, leaving it as standard as possible and restoring where needed to keep as much originality as possible.
Hope you enjoyed the video.

Lots of Trouble...not so serious! Lotus Elise

In this video my Lotus Elise has an issue, this turns out to be a loose aux belt which, when I had managed to purchase the correct bolt needed to tighten it fixed the issue. No more squeaky engine start! Back to enjoying driving the Lotus again. If you enjoy my videos please consider subscribing to my channel! I ruined the paint on the VW Caddy trying to fix stone chips
zhlédnutí 212Před měsícem
I this video I attempted to tidy up some of the stone chips on the front of the VW Caddy but it didn't go to plan. Unfortunately, I would have been in a better situation if I had just left them or done them how I thought they should be done. However, I bought into a product I thought would get the paint work back to original and It was terrible. In order to attempt to fix it I resorted to Megui...
The box of original parts that came with the Lotus
zhlédnutí 664Před 3 měsíci
In this video I remove the hard top roof to my Lotus Elise in favour of the soft top. This should make it easier for when I get round to cleaning the inside of the car. I also went through the big box of parts that came with the car to see what we have that. Some of it will be going back on the car such as the original steering wheel and some of it will be staying in the box. If you enjoy my vi...

Nice to see a young person enjoying an actual drivers car. You can drive without power steering and an auto box. I drive my Elise 220 all year. They are Aluminium and fibre glass after all. Life is short, enjoy every drive. I am with you on induction noise. Thanks for your video.
Thank you for the kind words, I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Tin foil on the connections I had the same problem with my mk3 number plate light tin foil did the trick.
Never thought of that 👍
@@FreeworldOL yeah the connection check bringing up the light on my mk3 caddy even with new lights. It was the connections where the lights fit too. So I put tin foil in there and it gave a better connection. I take my hat off to you for attempting the stone chips I have a few but not brave enough to tackle them thanks for sharing your experience 👍🏻
Mine are 2014…. Still lots of tread but I will change them in spring before my mot
10 years is the legal limit, you'll also fail your MOT if older than 10 years
If you're just city driving, no worries. Tyres can last longer than most people think. I was driving my 74 P6 V8 through London on Michelin's from the late 80's. No, I'm not joking, when the fronts wore out, the old boy in the tyre shop couldn't believe what he was looking at. No cracks or anything, just worn tread. Whatever you do, don't use tyre shine, and definitely don't let a detailing shop clean them. Most of those people mix petrol into the compound, and that eats the rubber.
Id say keep em if there not showing any damage or could just ruin em on purpose to get your moneys worth
I keep tires for 5 years from the manufacturer date after that they get changed religiously Michelin all the way
Fiat dash vents. Steering rack modified from an unnamed single seat racing car.
Wondered where I’d seen the dash vents before
My alternator belt was slipping and the end bolt was missing too! I have seen some alternators that didn’t appear to have an end bolt screw thread built in.
I think the sport 135 had a SS sports exhaust (Janspeed - not sure if it was a full system or just silencer section) & modified plenum chamber inlet (as used on the subsequent Sport 160 car & 111S - 111S had ‘VVC’ moulded into casting). I don’t think any 135 had MMC brakes. I have a v early MMC car with the Sport 135 head/plenum/exhaust/52MM throttle body/ITG airbox/standard gearbox (as used on the Sport 160) & the performance between it and a standard car is very very significant. It must be one of the lightest & fastest Elise’s ever! I can’t remember whether the Sport 135 had a standard ECU (MEMS) or bespoke like the Sport 160. You can always tell an aluminium boot lidded car as they are always dented from use. Happy driving!
Ah yes, the sports exhaust. Forgot to mention it. (Also thought it was janspeed) I think I read somewhere about a decat pipe but not sure. Thank you for the info. Your car sounds fantastic
Great video! Your car was parked behind my blue 160s at the car barn show the other week
Thank you, I had a good look at your car, it’s lovely. 1st one I’ve managed to make it to as been at work for them all.
Did you make the insert panels or buy them pre cut? Also what was the glue remover called. Great job you’ve done there 👍🏻
I believe the video before this one I made them. I forgot a thumbnail so the video did terrible but basically made cardboard stencils then transferred to plywood. It was called sticky stuff remover but i think white spirit or something similar may be better. Thank you 👍
Great vid, im doing a similar build on my MK4 caddy. Good to see what holds up to the test of time. Love the wing mirrors I will also be buying these for sure. I was thinking of fitting some side skirts /bars for the look but not sure yet. Look forward to the new vids. 👍
Thank you, yes I considered the side bars but wanted a clean look. So many choices that look great when doing mods 👍
Interior door handles are rover 200.
Fuel filler is jeep. And I don’t think the Renault 4 used cibie Oscar lights.
No need to fully undo the hard top bolts, 3 turns is enough. And don’t over tighten them.
Thanks for the tips 👍
Very good.
Well done for trying mate you never know unless you give it a go 👍
Best way to learn
looks very clean actually
How did you change the badges
Took them off and painted them
fair play to you mate
Hi thanks for the video can you add a link for the bulbs you fitted please .. cheers
Just eBay search interior bulbs for vw caddy
Yeah thanks for that.
You have a good Caddy.Hello from Russia ✌
Thank you 👍
Just saw Kenwood ! I have a Kenwood radio in my old VW golf, neither I or my wife have ever managed to understand the controls enough to get the thing to work properly. Are Kenwood radios any good ? and is it worth having another go at it, somewhere there is about a three million page manual (thing's like a phone book !) ?
@Olly Thanks mate i have followed your caddy videos , do you think i need to fill the holes the floor and wheel arches where the ply self tappers was attached to ? Dunno whether i need to do this before i begin sound deadening and insulating ? Thanks for sharing and patience
I did some don’t, think it’s just personal choice. Knew I’m keeping it for a while and whilst I was there thought best to sort
Old video now I know. But wondered how it held up over the long term, gow often did you have to refresh the wirth stuff? Were you're bumper black originally or the dark VW grey plastic?
Never refreshed it. The side strips need doing again but bumpers are fine. Mine were dark grey plastic
I’ve had a 160 for a couple of years now and I love it. It’s been very reliable and I have done some big trips like 700ml to the lakes and back in one weekend - You have to pack light though!
Good job👍
It's lotus, built by men in a shed, what do u expect lol
Lamborghini use Audi parts
They both used VW parts
I would think that most of the parts are made by small companies and just bought in by the motor manufactures not ford just blogs inc
Nice mate what cleaning stuff have u used on your bumpers
Make such a difference don't they! Vans looking great
Love them 👍
Yes that is the battery holder for the standard battery.
Thought so, thanks 👍
Very great job Olly! Thank you very much for the footcam, it's perfect! I hope that you will continue to include this view for your next videos. A pure driving video could be very insane! :D
Will do
@@FreeworldOL Great, thanks! Keep this way of editing videos, i.e. putting one view at a time in full screen and not putting all the angles at once in "picture-in-picture". :)
Get that hood down! It adds so much to the driving experience! The cargo net is so useful and will hold the hood in its bag behind the seats, so that with the hood down the boot is empty.
Ah, makes sense. Roof will be off this weekend 👍
Nice steering wheel what diameter and MOMO model is that ?
Thank you, Momo mod 78, unsure on the size
I prefer the look on my S2 Elise with or without the hard top, soft top look is not my fav tbh
Im still undecided. Probably the hard top but we will see. Defo no roof for cleaning the inside
Nice one Olly, suns out i went for a sunday blast today.
Stripping my roof for more headspace. I'm just gonna use thin sound deadner and thin ply between the beams, covered in lino. Leave beams exposed, but covered in carpet, for hanging points.
didn’t realise you had to open the door! i’ve been stuck in the car for weeks!
I have a Mazda MX5. That's how I get out of my car. I'm 68.
You doing it wrong
😂 Seamless dismount, literally like most ya troozas after climbing oot, seamless! Nice one ☝️
😂 past tall owner here. I was told I looked like a giraffe being born when I got out...
This is too funny 😂
@Olly Just got a 2013 caddy auto for Mrs mate. It's all ply in the back mate with bulkhead. What do you recommend bud strip all the ply out and remove bulkhead? Or just carpet the way it is?
If you carpet the ply it’ll be way easier than removing it and look nice and neat. Removing the bulkhead makes it feel way roomier but u may need to remove the ply floor to get to some of the bolts for the bulkhead. Which may need more work than you want to do
@@FreeworldOL Cheers OL thats sound advice man
Nice one mate. Where did you get that Matt black grille from?
Thank you. It’s wrapped with carbon style wrap. Did it in one of my first caddy videos
Get rid of all those falangees lying about in your footwell man Olly 😃
Im doing the same thing on my caddy this summer. Got a cheap new set of wing mirrors off ebay. Thanks for the video. great help!
Say bye to your wallet ;-)
