You could also use reference tracks at loud and quiet levels to make sure your tracks hold up.
Automation!
What about after exporting, why is the track so low and not as loud as in the mix session?
Do you have the normalize option on? If so disable it
i've another "problem" , my tracks are much louder than most of the tracks and they sound "better" but i don't want to make music anymore
I'm sick of noise .
and instead of excessive limiting or brutal compression, you can just try multiband saturation and manual peak volume controlling
you can also try to add some harmonics with harmonic exciters.
and finally , you can use some multiband clipping and a single band clipper over it , touching no limiting at all , only for true peaks at 0dbfs in the end of a chain
and make sure that true peak limiter is not from Pro L , because it's TP module sounds like crap, instead try Izotope TP limiting.
What is the exact balance then? Kicks snares vs rest of the mix
When you're first balancing your sounds, try and just do it by ear. Make sure nothing is noticeably louder than anything else, you should be able to hear everything clearly. Then when checking the spectrum analyzer, check to see the high frequencies are not much higher than the lowe frequencies. If you've done both of those steps, but still find that your limiter can't get to the loudness you want, then you have some big peaks you need to take care of in your mix, usually form the drums or other percussive sounds.
😂Use a compresor
That was a good video
Glad you enjoyed it! Let me know if there are any topics that give you trouble and maybe I'll make some more videos about them.
😑😑 u talk 11 minutes blaaaa blaaa without answer the question aaaaaah
The entire video is literally the answer. You could also just ask me a question normally, and I would be more than happy to answer and help.
like what is your problem? is your brain fried from all those tiktoks that your attention span is non existant to watch this video?
Brilliant! Thank you so much! This is exactly what my track looks like, lots of troughs and peaks. Tried everything, it won't come out right after master. Will go back and find the culprit tracks now... 👍🏼
Perfect let me know how it goes.
thank you
No problem!
Okay now how do we fix that
You would use a clipper or saturator to tame those peaks before hitting a limiter. You just have to be careful not to add unwanted distortion, especially if you're doing this in mastering.
💥💯
Sorry, Useless video. You didn't say how to turn up the volume. You told the obvious things that everyone already knows, including about plugins.
Good sound🎉
Wow! I know I’m quite late, but this tutorial is ON POINT. Massive ups! new sub

Thanks, this make a lot of sense now... will check to see if you have a mixing video

🍻
This is one of the best Sylenth1 tutorials I have hard brilliantly put across to understand and learn from you.
thanks man!
This is incorrect... Expanders don't add gain to the peaks, they reduce gain when the signal falls below a threshold which increases the dynamic range. Using. It. Like this will make the rest of the track pump... As you can hear
An expander makes quiet things quieter and loud things louder, therefore increasing the dynamic range. So by definition the peaks are emphasized, depending on the settings you use of course. The pumping caused by this is a separate issue and can be desirable or undesirable based on personal preference. Also you're talking about downward expansion, this is upward expansion. Unless I'm missing something, please let me know I could be wrong.
@@beattweaks my bad didn't realise you was using upwards expansion
using an expander on a mixdown is a lost cause mate - there is now way, one way or the other that you will add dynamics without changing something else - you have to send that back - full stop. If it was a single track (you got sent the single tracks and you had the chance to work with them then fine.. you could 'expand the drum bus' to add dynamics but to try to use an expander on a full mix is a lost cause mate - ya just don't - you'll spoil the mix - best you can do is, imho - take whatever peaks are left and add a touch of comp and limit it to get the level up to the 'standard' - but I wouldn't bother myself...
@@paulchapman2184 I mean yeah you're probably right it's not the best approach for a full mix down. Any processing you do on a full mix will probably have some unwanted effect but the point of this video was more about creativity and exploring new avenues of processing and less about telling people to use this technique. Also sometimes you don't have the option to send a mixdown back, I've had that happen quite a few times.
This was AMAZING! Very detailed and simplified enough for a newbie like myself. I have been looking at presets for that one pluck sound, but now, I have made my own for future projects. Great tutorial, thank you!
I'm so glad to hear that Chris! that's exactly why I made this tutorial. Plucks will always be a huge part of the genre and you can create your signature style with just a pluck.
Great tutorial. Thanks so much. Subbed.

nice and thanks
Awesome, another tutorial I was looking for, side/mid EQ has been a bit of a mystery to me, this cleared it up big time!
Awesome Grant! Glad I was able to clear that up for you.
i realize Im pretty randomly asking but do anybody know a good place to watch new tv shows online ?
@Dexter Kash Try Flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
@Maison Cory yea, been using flixzone for years myself :)
@Maison Cory thank you, I signed up and it seems to work :) Appreciate it!
will it load in ableton standard edition? I see you have an Amp in that effect chain which is not included with standard
You're right this will not work in the standard edition. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. What I'll do is create a new version without the amp plugin and update the download file.
i know Im kinda off topic but do anyone know a good place to watch new tv shows online ?
Thanks!
Great video, extremely useful and informative. Sub'd!
You are the only guy who got the sound correctly! Well done 🙌🏼
Thanks man! Let me know if you'd like to see other videos or if you have any suggestions.
next lil tecca -ransom please
I will try and look into that
it's just the Oasis Bell in Omnisphere, it isn't a preset, you have to go into the soundsources and find it
I don't get that volume decrease that you get when activating the distortion effect and also, shouldn't adding additional harmonics and saturation increase the volume?? I can't really figure out how distortion and volume loss are related, it's like a compressor, bringing all frequencies up to the threshold.
Ok i'll try to simplify this for you as much as I can. Imagine volume like a wall. The higher you go up a wall, the closer you get to the ceiling. That ceiling is the maximum volume you can reach. It's called absolute 0. When you add distortion to a sound, what you're doing is pushing it into the ceiling, and only when you reach that ceiling will you start to actually distort the sound. So up to a point, all you're doing is adding volume. Once you reach the ceiling, you'll start adding harmonics. But then after you've added harmonics, the sound is just really loud, so you want to bring the volume back down. Then what you end up with is the new distorted sound, but at the same volume as the undistorted sound, and with less transients and dynamic range (aka it's "louder") Does that make more sense now? If not plz ask me more questions.
Actually you want a fast attack time to expand the transient, slow attack time will kill the transient.
you forgot to turn off your autotune lmao
I forget nothing 😎
Thank you Fuad It's really helpful for me
No problem I'm glad I can help
Sir, I have a question When I side chain it works when i hear it in solo mode. But when I play both clap and melody the side chain doesn't work. How can I solve this?
Nice tip regarding making a chord progression prior to sound design
1- stop horizontal scrolling in your (next) video !!! 2- always cut samples on 0 db 3- Good Video quality 4-Thanx very much !!
MCompare from Melda Production is also a great tool for referencing which goes beyond soloing tracks in your daw.
Should I mid side eq for every track that I produce?
Hey Damian, I guess that would depend. For example if you like to use a lot of loops and samples, a lot of those loops and samples have low frequencies in their reverbs and delays, so you might want to use mid/side EQ to clean up the low frequencies from the sides, and then EQ the mids separately. Does that make a little more sense?
Well explained... How do we mix all white noise, impacts and the elements..bcuz i feel those things are mudding up my mix
@@joeljoyce1756 Hey Joel, sorry I just saw this comment for some reason. You basically treat white noise as you would any other sound. You need to EQ out the frequencies you don't need and boost the ones that fit with your track and the other instruments. Same goes for all other effects, they need to be EQ'd and mixed to fit with the other sounds.
You explain so well the system of the compressor! Thank you man! This track is good by the way!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video and the track <3
I think that i might be getting this simply because i don't own any ozone at all, and I also don't have that much mastering experience or the money to always hire engineers. With studies and work I have a limited of free time, which makes something like this perfectly, i believe. Mastering process easier and faster so i can focus more time on being a musician and make my productions sound good independently, Am i right thinking this way?
ok:/
thank you so much for this!
That classic Dinka Proggy Pluck 😎
I currently do not own any Izotope mixing suites. I consider myself a beginner home recording person looking to make some really good sounding music to put on CZcams. Since I am a beginner, do you recommend getting Izotope 8 ? Would 6 or 7 suffice?
honestly if you're going to spend money you might as well spend it on the latest version. In terms of complexity the three would be pretty similar so you're better off going with the latest.
I am really only interested in putting up some vids of me playing along with backing tracks. It will be just a track or two of my guitars plus the original backing track. This mixing suite may be way to much overkill. Not sure if their is a cheaper option out there that will provide professional results. If it renders an excellent final product, then I guess I should spend the money. @@beattweaks
@@gibsonplayer8 The quality of the final product has much more to do with your skills and exprerience and less to do with the plugins being used. You can achieve excellent and professional results with stock plugins and nobody will be able to tell the difference. Any suite of plugins will produce a great final product if used properly. That being said, I love Ozone's suite of plugins. I personally only use them for mastering. Everything else is done with stock plugins.
Right now I am not using any plugins. I am using the Fractal Axe Fx directly into my DAW. When I export the final product, it sounds tinny in some spots and too bassy in others, and I also lose a lot of volume. I am using KRK Rockits, and they are considered flat response speakers. But the final product after export sounds like garbage. This is the part that confuses me. During recording and playback, it sounds great. Once I export it to an Mp3 or send it to CZcams, it sounds terrible. I am frustrated beyond belief. So all that being said, I don't know if investing several hundred dollars into Izotope will resolve my issues. @@beattweaks
