The quilting community is a kind place. You fit in well. Have Jen Kingwell's " Sweet peas and Green Tea" ready to start but left it in Colorado when I came to Texas to care for family member. Good to see you back! For the tilted table I see another board hinged in the back (like a 2x4) that drops down to hold the surface up when it’s lifted. Your patio looks awesome!

    • @LakesideQuiltmakingArts

      I was thinking about doing this but with a thinner wood than what I’m using for the table. But when I read your comment I saw it with a thick piece of wood. What I like most about that is that it brings the surface to a tilt even when the hinge is closed. Hmmm 🤔 So much to think about. 💭 🧐 Thank you so much for adding to the possibilities!!

    I have never seen anyone cut away fabric at the corners of appliqué pieces as you do in the 35 years that I have been quilting. Watching your latest videos compelled me to find a CZcams video that might help you better than a long winded explanation from me. Appliqué Like a Pro! Part 1/4 - Rectangles & Appliqué Basics from Missouri Star, Dec. 14, 2012, at 19:18. Ignore that she uses a paper template that she’s going to leave in, in your case you would just press the seam allowances over your square and rectangular, heat resistant templates, with some starch, they will retain their shape and the integrity of the corners will not be compromised. Quilting cottons do not make for bulky edges at the corners. Hope this is helpful.

  • @landiodo

    Happy Birthday! For the "v" part of the branch, I plan to reinforce that part with a few extra very tiny stitches when I sew it on my block to maintain that sharp corner. I don't think there is much more you can do at this stage. You could add some of the glue stick to glue the edges, but it will make your pieces very flat. I know you like your applique pieces to have some texture, so the glue wouldn't be a good solution.

    • @LakesideQuiltmakingArts
      @LakesideQuiltmakingArts Před 11 dny

      Well that’s very clever!! I would not mind it if the V itself was glued. I will hopefully keep that bit of genius in mind when I get back to stitching down that piece. Hi Dawn! Glad you are recovering so well. Applique techniques are particular to each sewist. I use freezer paper (sometimes 2 layers if needed). I always use starch w a brush (as you have done before) and the little craft iron. I keep a wet sponge near to wipe the iron so starch doesn't build up. I never use my big iron on wet starch- because of sole plate contamination. 😅 Anyway - everyone has to find their best/preferred method. Keep at it! ❤🥰

I have no idea where the money will come from for the long arm but I am keeping it in my crosshairs and keeping space preserved for it. And letting God work on the details!

      Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching my videos!! The surgery was relatively a breeze. I should be going to the hotel tomorrow. I’m sorry to hear you have an extensive cervical fusion. Is your skull also fused to your cervical spine? Sometimes it’s through randomly sharing bits of my journey that I find connections with others with EHLERS DANLOS SYNDROME, so I’m just wondering. I’m not trying to be nosy. The parts of my cervical spine that’s not fused c5-7 through T2 are unstable so that makes my spine fragile during bumps and the risks increase if I have a curve to that area when jostled by a car hitting uneven ground or a plane hitting turbulence. That’s what I was trying to convey. But it’s easy to get tongue tied on camera when explaining complex stuff! I hope you’re doing well now? Are you a quilter?

      Carotid artery surgeries are not easy! My brother had to have both sides done. I hope that surgery was fully successful? I thought more about that wash. I recall getting it but I didn’t have to do five days of it prior to surgery like I’ve had to do with the neurosurgeries. Perhaps they’ve just upped the protocols. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thank you for all of your support and well wishes! I’ll do some kind of update once I’m pretty certain I’m no longer under the influence of the general anesthesia! 😂 I truly expect this to be a very uneventful thing all the way around!

He only had a graveling low whisper for a year. That was 2016… he’s been V perfectly fine for the last few years. It’s interesting that you chose quilting as an art form. I feel like you are almost mimicking your life by doing so. In the sense that things have to be taken apart and then put back together again. You are brave to do all that you are doing with surgery and recovery. I know it’s hard to face a surgery and the recovery. I’m hoping for the best outcome for you. Regrets are difficult to deal with as well. I strive to not have any. 😎🌈💖. He’s such a good hearted person, it’s humbling. I absolutely love your analogy about quilting and my personal journey!! I’m really not expecting this surgery to have a significant impact on me.
