Tutorial: Find Temperature & Precipitation Data for Backcountry Areas
zhlédnutí 2,5KPřed 3 lety
The National Centers for Environmental Information website is a fantastic resource for researching historical temperature and precipitation data. Unfortunately, it's lacking intuitiveness (or instruction), so I created this quick-and-dirty tutorial to help you navigate it. To repeat the steps in the tutorial, start at this page, gis.ncdc.noaa.gov/maps/
Review: Enlightened Equipment Visp Rain Jacket & Pants
zhlédnutí 10KPřed 3 lety
The Visp Jacket ($190, 5 oz) and Pants ($160, 4 oz) are worth consideration as a just-in-case rain suit option for arid and semi-arid environments when precipitation is rare and not long-lasting and for well maintained trails on which abrasion will be minimal or non-existent. While the weight is extremely attractive, I'd be more trusting of heavier products for wet environments and for bushwhac...

Great Western Loop: A 6,875-mile hike around the American West
zhlédnutí 18KPřed 4 lety
From April to November 2007, I made a giant loop around the American West using the Pacific Crest Trail, Pacific Northwest Trail, Continental Divide, Grand Enchantment Trail, and Arizona Trail, plus a custom route from the Grand Canyon to Joshua Tree National Park. The 6,875-mile trek took me 208 days, an average of 33 miles per day.

In August 2004 I departed Cape Gaspe, Quebec, bound for the Pacific Ocean. I followed the International Appalachian Trail south to Katahdin, where I joined the Appalachian Trail, then the Long Trail, North Country Trail, Continental Divide Trail, and finally the Pacific Northwest Trail. The 11-month hike ended up being about 7,775 miles long.

SOS lock switch malfunction on DeLorme inReach Explorer
zhlédnutí 4,4KPřed 6 lety
This is scary. Even with the lock switch properly engaged, a SOS message can still be triggered if normal pressure is applied to the external SOS button on my DeLorme inReach Explorer. The inReach SE is known to have the same issue. Garmin purchased DeLorme in 2017 and these units are still widely used. This design flaw was avoided (intentionally or by accident) with the newer Garmin inReach SE...

Serving time and the old thief When you’ve worked for Don for 25 years You learn how to commit a crime But Michael Cohen and Weiselberg Unlike Trump, have served their time So far we’ve seen the shameful thief Avoid the consequences of his deeds As though it’s only you and I Who bear where conduct leads But the thieving fraud of Florida In court has seen receipts Record his culpability Despite the lies he bleats Manhattan’s miscreant is Don The worst mistake made by a nation If the jury true can lock him up It will be for our salvation
Joy There’s joy that comes with justice It first dances at her feet Then soars beyond the heavens From where it won’t retreat It is the call of freedom That always may be heard The sound that lifts, unites us In thought, in deed, in word It sings throughout the ages A harmony so pure Heard by soldiers off to war: Is whom they’ve fallen for Justice holds us like our conscience, When it’s felt and known to be. It protects us from our weakness We strengthened to just be Those not content to be themselves Who’ve forgotten who they are Need justice to remind them That they have gone too far
What time of year did you start? Thank you!!
Thick alders…painfully slow….beware of any bears….lol!
I wish to hike this but without vehicles and a water cache it's apparently unlikely?
I think it's important to point out that Andrew's test involves a Global needle compass that uses the original 1992 Recta AG patent (when Suunto bought Recta AG, they inherited the Recta global needle patent). This is a very trustworthy and proven design. Suunto has since changed their Global Needle to a new design using a composite plastic-and-steel needle that has been criticized by some owners for excessive tilt causing needle drag against the base of the capsule. Apparently this was done to save money, but IMHO it's a poor design.
Great vid
impressive water crossing. lol
Not often do we have something that wakes us up so abruptly and then get to enjoy a good laugh after!
Your lucky your alive
Nutcase
You were lucky. You just escaped death. I hope you do realize that.
I think the grizzly bear was running up to see if you had any Pepto-Bismol and then realized it was too late..🐻💩
I was going to say Don't laugh too loud. 👍✌You're fortunate.
Being brave and facing a grizzly is one thing...but making a grizzly cry , shit themselves and picking on them...I don't agree with...
This is the found footage right?
You're a legend. What you have done is aspirational.

And he brought into the wild! Legend
This is comparable to backpacking as Hoosiers is to basketball.
Well have you heard of grizzly bear story of two couple being killed
I remember reading some book by Henry David Thoreau, where he describes some legendary places somewhere in America, where if a lumberjack slapped his cheek, it would be completely covered in blood, due to thoes thousands of mosquitos.

You are truly an amazingly inspirational human being. We need more like you and Elon.
Super helpful and concise! Thank you!
Beautiful Andy
Yea, try that again with the newer models of the suunto stuff. My MC2g arrived yesterday and it gets stuck all the time. Even on level surfaces. They replaced the metal needles with plastic ones that have the needles printed on and it's just not reliable at all. Going to return it today :/
yeah everything is replaced by plastic nowadays, what would you say is a good compass nowadays?
@@jose2226 Not sure. When I returned the MC2g, I tried other pieces in the store (bought it online, but returned it in a branch store). I now have one that works. I talked about it with a friend and former soldier, he said it would be best to just get a good working used military compass. Should work reliable and shouldn't be expensive either. Might have other bearings though.
@@orangeblack1285 ah okay. im sure flea markets nad the likes might have one. thanks for replying.
Thanks
Are you sure you didn't scare them off with your big muscles. Don't BS us dude you've got a cell phone where's the video of not one but two bears
The guy has since been eaten alive.
Incredible! You have gone on adventures greater than most can imagine let alone actually attempt.
The global also matters if using in both hemispheres, as the issue with the non-global is the south end of that needle is weighted to keep it balanced against the magenet field pulling the north end further and further down as you get closer to the magnetic north. Of course the same effect happens in the southern hemisphere, and that weighting is now amplifying that effect, so down there non-global compasses are sold with a slight weighting of the north end of the needle.
Lost me at climate change. Good job for finishing though.
PENDEJO😂😂
Legend has it he is still running today.
Thank you for sharing your experience and story! You're a real inspiration for exploration and adventure

Why am I still watching this hahahaha

My ideal method is.. add some water to the booty, add some water to the hand followed by some soap, use the hand to clean the booty and lather up, then, add some water over the hand and booty together as you scrub. finally rinse booty, and then rinse hand. tada! not much water is needed.
I'm going.
