    Thinking of something like this to contain any combination of battery banks, diesel heater/fuel, mini-split, generator/fuel. I'm thinking that cabinet would want to have significant ventilation panels. What do you think?

      Good eyes @walterwilliams268. You are totally correct about the driven draft. I did my research before I bought the window and knew that but when it came time to buy it, I got such a good deal for it I couldn’t say no. If others are reading this, Walter is referring to the fixed side and the “overlap” of the sliding section being considered prior to purchasing. Thanks Walter and all the best!!!!

    What are all the materials you used for this project? I’ve got the same trailer and I’m planning on doing the same thing you did, any chance you could list out all the materials you used? Thank you!

    • @brucemclean934
      @brucemclean934 Před 3 měsíci

      Hey there!! The materials are as follows: Interior header. 1. 3/4” exterior grade fir plywood. 2. 2” self taping(for steel) screws. 3. 1 tube PL glue(construction adhesive). Exterior window install: 1. Trailer window of any size. Make sure it comes with the interior trim for sandwiching the wall structure itself. 2. RV mastic roll(similar to plumbers putty). 3. Good quality Polyurethane Sealant. 4. Paintable DAP sealant. The roll of mastic and polyurethane sealant can be bought at an RV store or hardware store. You’ll need a grinder and Zip disk for the steel stud cutting. It’s all really simple to do. Before I started I was sure to watch as many videos of the install that way I can pick up as many pointers before I started. It helps that I’m a tradesman with a tonne of renovation experience so it’s all just made easier by picking up ideas from those who’ve gone before me. I hope you find great success my friend and many happy encounters before you!! Safe travels!!! Bruce out!!!

      Some people cut the supports in a way that turns them into a flap that supports a wood frame that then you attack the window too. You can then screw the frame into the beams to hold support.

    I gotta agree, that ride from Haines Jct. to Haines was outstanding! I did it in '06, my big motorcycle adventure. Stopped at a big gravel pull out, and marveled at the scenery and how alone I was. Not a sound but the wind. Came upon road construction, young lady flag person said not to worry, If a grizzly came along I could get in her car with her. Nice of her I thought.

    I like this setup, a pipe might be easier to work with for attaching the straps and fashioning a method of using a drill

    • @brucemclean934
      @brucemclean934 Před 5 měsíci

      Hiya @kennethrogers1129!! Thanks for the comment, and yes you are correct, a pipe could be used for sure. I was definitely inspired by Jim Ellison’s bed set up whereby he utilized a pipe. To give you my perspective, I wanted to use solid metal for the purpose of welding a 3/4” nut that I could attach a cordless drill to as the mechanical drive. I do want to say that it works extremely well as we lowered and raised the bed daily for six weeks on our northern Yukon adventure last summer. Hopefully you can take out different ideas from the hundreds of videos on CZcams like I did to make the one you want. I’d love to see how you do, maybe you can share some pictures? Anyways all the best, and safe travels my friend!!!

      @@brucemclean934 yes sir will do, I have a toy hauler I use for hunting camp mostly. It’s About 16ft long set up with wet shower , kitchen area, one closet, and garage area where I keep the 4 wheeler and a generator with a fold down bunk on each side. Bunks are coming out being replaced with a larger bed that I will use the web straps to raise up and lower which will allow a good bit more usable space and camp comfort, thanks for your response and information. My only problem is designing a lock for the raised position for safety while on the road, the E brackets looks good but have another idea that is much simpler by having two guide rails on each side with a hole that a thick dowel can be inserted in , under the bed platform, to keep the bed from moving in the down position it will just rest on 2x4 supports.

    • @brucemclean934
      @brucemclean934 Před 8 měsíci

      Hey thanks for asking on the bed. I got the E Track system and hardware from Princess Auto. They carry everything you’ll need. As for the rebar slot I used a 4” mini grinder to create the pass thru slot whereby both straps overlap to wrap the rebar. On the end of the rebar I welded a 4” plate and nut. In the plate I’ve 1/4” drilled holes, then thru the 2x8 I drilled the same in the bed up position where the plate lines up with the hole. In the video I just made it look a bit more awkward, but in reality it goes up and down with ease. The trailer has been put away in a storage facility for the winter, but in the spring I’ll drag it home and do more videoing of details for you to make your build easier. I can assure you, this redneck bed lift system is the easiest most cost efficient way imaginable. All the best for you and your build, safe travels too!!

      Hey Stacy. We’ve found out that all these CZcams videos are about getting ideas, good and bad from others. Hopefully this has made a difference for you in a good way. Our trailer is away for the winter months and will surely do a show and tell for you in the spring. But to explain how I mounted it, I just used a self taping screw and washer thru the wall stud essentially pinching the strap to the wall. I trimmed it off with a piece of the pine I used on the ceiling. I’d suggest always using a construction adhesive to all fasteners too. I hope this helps you with your build. Have you made any videos of your build? You should!! All the best in your travels as well Stacy!!!
