Welcome to your one-stop guide to higher education in the US. I am a current MS Computer Science student at Columbia University, New York and through this channel, I aim to help individuals crack their dream admits by interviewing current/former students of specific programs and getting their insights on what it takes to make it to these schools.
E23 - Essentials for Fall 2024 US Incoming Students with Akshit | A MUST WATCH US AND VISA GUIDE
This episode is for all those who have received their admits and want to know what to do next before getting to the US.
The episode walks through our personal anecdotes and experiences introducing the different steps of the visa process, tips on booking visa appointments, guides on how to find apartments in the US, how to get a SIM card, open a bank account, and many more things that would help ease your transition to the US.
A huge shoutout to Suraj Peri and Gradvine for guiding me through the DS-160 and SEVIS I-901 applications last year. This year's content can be viewed at drive.google.com/drive/folders/15RbDpCvQEWue0NTKOTVdKlMeMdzVrkZR?usp=sharing. This link contains step-by-step information on how to fill the documents, how to request for an I-20, how to book your visa slot, and what documents to carry to the US. Thanks Gradvine for sharing these docs and always being super helpful to the community!

Yeah stop talking over eachother it's irritating when someone is talking and u interrupt
It’s an audio track issue. There was a lag in the recording from one of our ends which caused it. We’d mentioned that in the description as well.

Yes, there was an issue with the recording. The tracks got messed up as it’s happened in previous recordings

Sir, actually your videos too long ,it was hard to wait more, Than aspiring student looks candidate profile and test scores, and fees structure. But your video these details are not focus much. So it was difficulties to get more up vote or view Sorry for my comments.
Hey, the goal of the episodes is to be holistic and not just specific details. For those who do not have the time, we've added timestamps in the description which you can use to navigate to what you need
Duke MEM batch size is around 150-160, when did it go up to 800 :0
Thanks for pointing it out, we just found out that the number we wanted to use was the number of admitted students which is about 400 and the number of students in the batch is 180. Apologies, we're adding it in the description as a correction as well!

Hi harshith, I have applied for MISM program at CMU. Is 3.47 enough to get into this program. Please share your opinions
As we've discussed, no fixed number is a threshold as per my knowledge but a 3.5+/4 is usually a good number. I know a friend who received an admit for the Fall '24 intake with a GPA of 3.59.
Hey did you get in?
$102,623 which Columbia mentioned as fees (tuition and living) is the total for the entire course or its only for an academic year
It's only for the first academic year, the next year will have lower fees as the required credits will be only 6. Please note that the other expenses like Room and Board, Books and Supplies, Personal Expenses, and Transportation mentioned in the list are as per your needs only. For eg., I barely spend $30-40 on the metro every month and my personal expenses would be around $3000-4000. If you choose not to buy an iPad/Macbook when you get here, your Books and Supplies are barely anything. Students typically pay around $1200-$1400 per month for rent and another $300 for groceries + utilities. So that should be about $18,000 for a year. So yeah, it's completely up to you.
@@MastersWithHarshith Thanks a lot for the detailed and clear reply

Ok
What's the point of MS without a thesis??
Hi Harsh, I have a low cgpa of 7.9 but I have 5 publications to be published, and 1 year of 2 years of RAship, is there any chance getting in? Just a suggestion from you would be great.
It's a hard question but from my personal experience, it depends on how good your publications and RAship experience are. If they're being published in top conferences and you're working on cutting-edge technologies with a professor who's one of the best in their field, you would surely stand a chance.
