Duke Move In Day 2019
I remember when I had just gotten into Duke and I was scouring the CZcamss for a move in day video to prematurely feel that excitement of that day. Too bad I did a Pre-Orientation program so my Move In Day experience was different from most others.
I'm an RA on East Campus, aka the Freshman Campus so I got to relive Move In Day but from the other side, that being the FAC and RA side. We are upperclassmen students just trying to help new students through the move-in and later, the orientation process as well. Video's short but the whole thing took an eternity. Footage comes from the moving in "processions" of two different dorms: Wilson and Giles.

You Don't Have To Be a God To Get Into Your Dream School

I honestly doubted I'd get into my dream school (Duke) with what I thought were pretty average stats for people applying there, but now I realize that you don't have to cure cancer to get into the Ivies or other Top 20 schools. It's just about doing special things that normal people are fully capable of.

Good evening! I just watched your video since last year. You did a great job with your video. Congratulations on your achievements. Including with your extracurriculars. I will be completing with my AA degree from a community college this year in December. After I complete with my AA degree in general studies, I will be taking my semester off from university to do acting and music studio for receiving training that relates to television. Then, I will be back to university for my BA degree in journalism or communication in the fall of 2023. I graduated from high school in 6 years ago. I am a military child, so I traveled all over the states because I have a parent who is military. Television has always been my dream career at a younger age. omg I really should have watched this earlier. I didn't apply nor prioritize any of my dream schools because my counselor repeatedly told me I wouldn't get in and there was no use in applying. I shouldn't have listened but now here I am, scrambling to simply apply wherever is left, and wasting a thousand dollars after hearing about everyone who had same stats as me get into their dream schools ED or EA.

I’m in 7th grade, but Duke is my dream school so if anyone could tell me what I could do to improve my chances of getting in: Good things about me: -A+ student (lowest grade right now is 95) -1 preAP class, one math class one year ahead (testing into geometry next year instead of algebra) -I play sports -I started community service -I take Spanish class (taking it throughout high school and doing AP once it’s possible) -I’m a good test taker -I’m doing 2.00 credits worth of classes my 8th grade year Negative things: -I tend to compare myself to others -sometimes I procrastinate I know I have a while, but am I on the right track? During the summer between my junior and senior year, I was looking for some extracurricular thing to get involved in for the upcoming school year, and ran across my local congresswoman's website. I think most (if not all) members of congress have internship programs in both the summer and school year that are open for high schoolers and are reasonably easy to get into.

ive been surfing all of youtube for the past month trying to find useful information about my dream school (duke), and after a lot of watching people with perfect scores and perfect gpas i thought 'well, guess i'm not going to duke.' but this has been exactly what i was looking for, someone honest, THANK YOU!!

I really want to go but my parents think its "unsafe" because of its high caliber and that I could get a low GPA, but I feel like every high tier college is hard and experiences don't change that much.
@@kinglion2546 I've heard that the hardest thing at Duke is getting accepted. While it is definitely still crazy challenging, the amount of support and freedom the Uni gives you helps a ton

Thank you so much. Every other "how I got into ______" video says how they got a 1550+ on the SAT and a 4.5 gpa. It was really reassuring to hear that it's still possible to be accepted without having insane grades!

You are an excellent writer! For that reason, I would caution that not all people should "write how they talk" in a Common App essay. For some, it is a good idea to use a thesaurus (sparingly). Great job!
