We couldn't help but think of the movie 'Aliens' when watching this machine at work on our most recent forestry site. It is thick freezing fog on an upland Sitka Spruce plantation. This machine will run 24 hours a day until the site is cleared and can be replanted. It is a highly skilled job. It will only stop to refuel or change operators. We will be replanting this whole site in the spring.

Felling Torn Up Trees - The Second One Is Nice
I have some different chains. Some have the tab on the drive link behind the raker, but it is the same size and you can't see it when it's straight. So, I guess that kickback tab is only exposed on the tip as it bends around the nose?
I should know this but didn't just got a new saw so I'll keep this in mind. Thanks.
You're welcome 😊
The difference between a pro and joe blow👌👌
Nice compliment. Thanks 😊
Hi, I'd like to say thank you for your videos and this channel, as a new comer to chainsaws, of which I have a very healthy respect of and am ultra cautious, oh and yes I wear full safety boots, chaps, gloves and helmet. I'm a domestic user only, mostly chainsawing up 5 tons of delivered tree trunks and then splitting for firewood on an annual basis. I think your reviews, advice and comments are grounded in straight forward common sense, gained from many years practical experience. Perfect for someone like me, simple and concise advice. Can I ask for videos on chain sharpening, chainsaw maintenance, carburettor maintenance and anything else you think appropriate for the newbee.
Oh man. That is great feedback thank you so much. And yes the chainsaw sharpening video is the One video I have yet to make! I shall get onto it quickly. 😌
bravo
😊
Thank you 1000 for this vid man
Any time!
I didn't even consider looking for your 'mistake'. Wrapping my thumb around the handle just comes naturally to me.

Thanks for the reminder !

Such long winded way to tell me not to tighten a hot chain.
Hi. Thanks for the comment. I do actually tell you to tighten a hot chain. I tell you to loosen it when you finished working before it cools down and contracts. 👍
Great advice! I was doing it all wrong, now I know what to do. Tx😊
Glad it was helpful! 👍🙂
Thank you for the reminder. It's one of these things that is so obvious and so often overlooked. Thanks again!
😊
Good lesson: haven't seen that before. Thanks!

Thank for the comments! With every comment, CZcams sends more users to my channel 🙂 but please don't say what you think the answer is in the comments section - it's a quiz! Gotcha!
Be better if you sharpened the saw first!
Hi, thanks for the comment. Did you mean the chain? It is sharp. I'm taking my time so people have time to see what I'm doing - i ask questions later!
The snake thing. LOL. Clever stuff though - thanks!
Great tip. Thank you.
I know this will cause an argument but its totally fine to leave a slight bit of slack in the chain. Not alot but it doesn't need to be snap tight..aslong as the teeth are running in the bar groove. I remember a STIHL technician telling me this about 20 years ago and the dangers of over tensioning. In fact the chain and cutting angles are designed with this in mind.
Yes. This true. Over tightening is the worst thing you can do for a chainsaw.
Thank you for that!
You're welcome!
I did not pick up on your "mistake". I had to re watch the video. Lol
😊
Bagus alat nya bro
Thank you! 😊
If I don't feel comfortable cutting it with a bow saw I call a pro
Very good advice 👌
Thank you, never thought of that.Just had a chain bar front roller fail, probably caused by this..
Yes. Very possibly 🙂
I heard about this years ago so got in the habit of doing just what you show: slack the chain at the end of the work day. I guess it's easy to forget that a hot chain gets longer and so a cooling chain must have an allowance, via slacking, for it to get shorter.
👍I bet everything lasts longer 🙂
This is great to know; I finished using saw little bit ago and after listening went to relax the chain
Excellent! Thanks for the comment 👍 😀
Good stuff
Thanks for the comment 👍 😀
Brilliant educational video 👍🏴
Kind words. Thank you 😊
Do you ever use a skidding cone?
Hi. Thanks for the comment. 👍No I haven't . I tend to use multiple redirect movable pulleys to keep what I am pulling up and out of harm's way. But they certainly seem like a good idea I may well invest in one in the future.
Good Tip James 😊 Needle Bearing on Sprocket can use cleaned and Greased, just like bar tip sprocket, I Find Air like you Use is the Best Way and so Helpful makes saw run Optimum. My Neighbor is a Family from London, you Don't sound like them . Another Neighbor from Scotland I ride Horses with, you sound more like Him. Am I Right ? I Hope I'm Not being rude by asking 🎉 😊
Yes. I'm from way up north 🙂
This is in no way a hidden killer, it has been clearly stated in the user manuals for ever, from the 1950-60, as long as there has been chainsaws.
Yes. Not hidden if you read the manual. Many people buy used saws with no manual. Thanks for the comment 👍
Good advice but needed less than a one minute video. Probably the most common problem for amateur video makers. Get to the point straight up then finish.
Thanks for the comment. I enjoy making the videos and don't really work to a script so I take my time to make sure I don't forget anything 🙂
Impeccable logic, now you said it of course, it's so obvious, a hot chain! Thanks man!" ☘ 💖🙏💫
You are so welcome ☺

Thanks 😊
Geez, I didn’t think of that one, thanks. Hello from Louisiana, USA.

Chain adjustment done cold. Applies to everything including motorcycles.
Very true I'd imagine 👍
Good catch- will check this
Thanks 😊
Something you wouldn’t think about but obvious when pointed out. Thanks for the tip. 👍
Happy to help!
I have used chainsaw for 30 years, but i have never thought about this, but it make sense.
Thanks for the kind words 😊
Really clear and helpful explanation, thank you. I have a long & short lever, but mostly use them for hung up trees. Most trees I cut are deciduous, so relatively easy to get a line up there which I often do for just in case of this. I wonder if a lever is used more for conifers ?
Hi, thanks for the kind words. Yes - I mainly use the felling lever for toppling conifers, although they can be useful for freeing a trapped saw in a hardwood, or making space to start off a wedge insert, and the cant hook is useful for rolling hardwood sections on the ground too.
What are the black fittings for on the felling lever?
It's a cant hook. It is on a hinge and is used to roll or turn logs. Handy for twisting felled logs of the stump hinge.
@@JamesTheForester i would never have guessed, thanks
@@Mylifelovingit If the tree had hung up, then the lever & cant hook can be used to rotate the tree and roll it out of the holding branches. You need to decide which way to go & then cut most of the hinge away to allow it to rotate in that direction
Very slick and totally professional. I loved the way you predicted the hinge would not break. Quick question - why a lever and not use wedges? I would have palmed a wedge in after the bar went far enough to stop the tree falling back and given it a few taps if necessary. I will add that I’m strictly amateur although I am fairly experienced. Never too old to learn though!
Hi Leigh. Thank you for the comment 😊👍 the reason was because the tree was not of a large enough diameter so the wedge would have hit the saw. But you are quite correct, on a larger diameter tree the Felling wedge would be the way to go. I also wanted to show how to use the felling lever 🙂
