    I cannot believe this excellent presentation has not received any comments before mine. I'm a (semi) retired graphic designer who was trained in the 70s in much the same way as Neil's working methods. We produced our scamps and visuals in gouache in those days, and lettered by hand . These are skills that I still have and continued to use as the industry became computerised with the Apple Mac in the 90s. I still paint on Arches paper and use Winsor and Newton watercolours. I was made aware of Neil's work when my wife (who has been tutored by Alex Preston) bought his 'As Kingfishers Catch Fire'. I love the illustrations in this book and the excellent line drawings (I also illustrate in pen and ink). I then realised that Neil did the covers for some of the Pete Brown beer books I own. Neil, you are an inspiration to my own work. All the best, Ian Laker.

      We're not deleting comments, and welcome your feedback. The Richardson image is unfortunate, but was automatically posted by youtube. We've now updated the thumbnail. As to the speaker, censoring people's comments in the videos seems just as dubious as deleting them here in the comments section. As always, the views and content of the speakers does not necessarily reflect those of the TDC. Thanks again for your thoughts.

    • @kimaboe
      @kimaboe Před 3 lety

      @@TypeDirectorsClub I posted two comments to the video, which were briefly visible, but then disappeared. I only know of one explanation for that happening. I don't expect you censor the speaker. However, personally I would probably have decided against posting that talk at all. Especially given the context. You have a platform here and decide which content you feel is right to promote. In this case where there are multiple speakers, I would have had a chat with the first speaker about whether she'd want it up. I have a very hard time believing she could put that slide up in a room filled with NYC creatives in the year 2020 and not get a heads up afterwards.

      @@kimaboe To the best of my knowledge, we can not delete comments. We can report them (and youtube can remove them.) Or we can disable them. But from what we can see, they can't be deleted by us. It's a squirrelly system. Even in trying to replace the thumbnail manually, it took several attempts to get rid of it. And it still pops up if you mouse over the new thumbnail. Presumably, youtube's algorithms look for a clear face in the video. Thanks for your input.
