Rocket steam model locomotive in 2 1/2 inch guage. Meths/alcohol fired via "bird feeder " principle from tank in tender (it's that rattling!!). With blower, whistle and regulator. Made for my daughter in 1977, that's why is says 1877 on the back...

hello, do you still have it or similar ones, and do you sell it? Thanks
The lamp would originally have been for burning whale oil, which burners very white. Vegetable oils burning were not as bright and used in cheaper lamps (this lamp was clearly owned by someone of wealth). I love the fact that the design puts the clockwork above the oil. The original Carcel design/patent 1800, put the clockwork below the oil in the font necessitating a seal in the base of the font, with its inherent risk of leakage.
This is an annual event coinciding with the "Festival of light".
This candle lamp is called a Photion, the hollow candle is sprung loaded to ensure it is loaded towards the top to maintain the pool of candle fat, a principle used on the "Palmer" candle lamps of the Victorian era.
Why in the world is youtube... wait a second.
I used to use it at Barbecues, but it decimated the flying insects at night, so on to LEDs
That's the coolest oil lamp I've ever seen.
The power piston is 2 1/4 inch diameter (half the original B4 of 4 1/2 inches. The speed can be limited by adjusting the spring tension on the end of the cylinder. Known for their long life and quiet running.
Rocket model locomotive and tender alcohol fired from tank in the tender. Made .in 1977 for my daughter to fit 2 1/2 inch guage track. Complete with blower, whistle and regulator. Single acting oscillating cylinders exhausting to the chimney.
Mamod ME1 steam engine circa 1960s driving a "3 beer tin" boat. Amazing what you can do when a poor apprentice with - 3 x 7 pint "party" beer cans, 1 gallon oil can, a bean tin, 6 brass curtain rings and a wire coat hanger, all soldered together. During Covid I found it in the loft and added Radio Control and named it UTOPIA. Happy days.
This 1/3 size model if a Robinson B4 Hot air engine. It is gas fired and drives a dynamo to light the lamp. It will also charge the phone... The original full size B4s drove water pumps, sewing machines, dentist drills, compressed air etc.
The pine wood hull is made by drawing round a Bowman SWALLOW hull plus a rocker bottom. The boiler is Bowman and the engine is single acting with brass bevel gears. The radio control is 27 MHz with the servo operating the rudder, not turning the outboard steam engine.
The pivots/joints on the power piston and displacer rods are 6mm silicon tubing.
The hull is bent tin. The diaphragm is 0.1mm brass foil on a 40mm diameter cup with 6mm diameter copper pipe exhaust. Alcohol fired. Very pleasing sound and the first I made with a diaphragm...
The plane is made from 5 Cola cans, double sided tape, 1.5mm wire, super glue and hat pin propeller shaft. All cut with kitchen scissors it is so thin.
It is Radio controlled on 4.2GHz planet 2+2 set up. The batteries are under the seat and receiver and servo underneath the footplate. The control valve is on the exhaust port, tapped 3/16 x 40 me thread. Putting it on the exhaust port is easier than breaking into main steam feed, and any small leakage is not an issue at lower pressure.

Lutz made many zany models, many were steam, but this my favourite, being a stationary flame gulper/licker. I bought it less spring, valve and burner on Eb. Made them and added wheels, axels, funnel, drive belt etc to make it into a mobile.
It is from the 1950s Japan. The hull and boiler as thin as paper and flexes with the fingers!! The name LIBERTY I believe is from the Liberty ships supplied by the USA to Britain during WW2, and named to appeal to the US market. Alcohol fired.
This is 10mm single copper pipe connected to a st steel bellows rapped with copper wire. Alcohol fired (I know...a waste!!!). The hull is polished copper from an old water tank. I later added a radio controlled rudder.
The fan will not fit on top of my log burner, so mounted and converted to run on an alcohol burner. I know, "a wicked waste of alcohol"...
The boat is cooking foil with bread trapped in the back (sorry...stern 😊). No tadpoles were injured in the making of this video...
1/50 PS. 1950s toy, alcohol burner, 200 to 1000rpm. Since the contraction of the flame is 50% of the stroke, the remaining 50% generates pressure which the relief valve expels.
Good
Thanks for the suggestion.
CZcams: Don't recommend this vertical video; producer needs to turn the camera to the correct orientation.
This is probably the best thing i have seen on youtube . 👌👊
