For treating various diseases, we use two types of medicines in ayurveda -
1. Primary (प्रधान) medicines - that primarily destroy the underlying abnormalities; and
2. Supportive (अनुपान) medicines - that enhance the actions of the Pradhan drugs, as well as, offer symptomatic relief.
Here we discuss the therapeutic uses of three important Supportive (अनुपान) mediicnes -
1. Jeevan Rasayan Ark (जीवन रसायन अर्क);
2. Kalaunji Oil (कलौंजी तेल); and
3. Jyotishmati Oil (ज्योतिष्मती तेल).
Let’s discuss in detail…
*1.JEEVAN RASAYAN ARK (जीवन रसायन अर्क)*
Jeevan Rasayan Ark is a multi-drug formulation that contains following ingredients -
- Camphor (कर्पूर सत्व) 44.45%
- Menthol (पुदीना सत्व) 22.22%
- Thymol (अजवायन सत्व) 22.22%
- Benzoic acid (लोहबान सत्व) 11.11%
Jeevan Rasayan Ark is used for the management of many diseases as an Supportive (अनुपान) medicine, like -
• Tooth pain (दाँत दर्द);
• Stomach pain (पेट दर्द);
• Intestinal pain (आँतों में मरोड़);
• Gall bladder pain (पित्ताशय का दर्द);
• Urinary pain (पेशाब का दर्द);
• Ear pain (कान का दर्द);
• Headache (सिरदर्द);
• Period pain (मासिक-धर्म का दर्द);
• Cervical pain (गर्दन दर्द);
• Low back pain (कमर-दर्द);
• Muscle pain (मांस-पेशियों में दर्द);
• Joint pain (जोड़ों में दर्द);
• Sciatica (साइटिका / रीह का दर्द);
• Vomiting / Nausea (उल्टी / मितली);
• Cough and Cold (सर्दी-जुकाम, खाँसी);
• Loose motions / Dysentery (पतले दस्त / पेचिश);
• Gas / Acidity (गैस / ऍसिडिटी);
• Shvasa-roga (श्वास-रोग);
• Urticaria and allergy (शीतपित्त व ऍलर्जा)।
You can use Jeevan Rasayan Ark as below -
1. Oral use - Put 2-5 drops in ½-1 cup of water and drink, twice / thrice a day, or as and when required;
2. Tooth pain - Put 2-3 drops on a cotton swab and keep the same on the painful tooth;
3. Mouth wash - Put 5-7 drops in a glass of lukewarm water and rinse the mouth, several times a day in oral and dental diseases;
4. Local massage - 10-15 drops to be massaged on the painful muscles and joints, as such, or mixed with olive oil or tila oil; and
5. Steam inhalation - Put 5-10 drops in boiling water and inhale the steam in cold, cough, headache etc;
6. Vapour inhalation - Put 5 drops of Jeevan Ark on a hankie or piece of cloth and inhale the vapours in cold, headache.
*2. KALAUNJI TAIL (कलौंजी तेल)*
Kalaunji tail is derived from the seeds of Kalaunji (Nigella sativa). It is widely used for the management of a large number of diseases, especially the metabolic and lifestyle diseases, as an Supportive (अनुपान) drug. These include -
• High cholesterol in the blood (खून में कोलेस्ट्रॉल बढ़ना);
• High triglycerides in the blood (खून में चर्बी बढ़ना);
• High blood sugar (खून में शर्करा बढ़ना);
• Overweight / Fatness (मोटापा / स्थौल्य);
• Hridaya Roga (हृदय रोग);
• Uchcha Raktachap (उच्च-रक्तचाप);
• Pakshaghat (पक्षाघात / लकवा);
• Tremor / Kampavata (कम्पवात);
• Mano-avasad (मनःअवसाद);
• Stress / Tension (तनाव / चिन्ता);
• Fibromyalgia (फाइब्रो-मायल्जिया);
• Chronic fatigue (लगातार थकावट);
• Smriti-nasha (स्मृतिनाश);
• IBS (आइ.बी.ऍस / आन्त्रक्षोभ);
• Apasmar (अपस्मार); व
• Visharbuda (विषार्बुद / कर्क-रोग)।
You can use Kalaunji Tail as below -
1. Oral use - Drink ¼-1 teaspoon of Kalaunji tail as such, or mixed in honey / milk / fruit juice, once / twice / thrice a day;
2. Local massage - 1-2 teaspoon of Kalaunji tail could be massaged on the painful affected parts.
*3. JYOTISHMATI OIL (ज्योतिष्मती तेल)*
Jyotishmati tail is derived from the seeds of Jyotishmati (Celastrus paniculatus). It is commonly called as Malkanguni tail. It is widely used for the management of a large number of diseases, especially the vataja, manas, nadigata diseases, as a Supportive (अनुपान) drug. These include -
• Pakshaghat (पक्षाघात / लकवा);
• Apasmar (अपस्मार);
• Nadi-dushti (नाडीदुष्टि);
• Hypo-thyroidism (हाइपो-थायराॅयडिज्म);
• Overweight / Fatness (मोटापा / स्थौल्य);
• High cholesterol in the blood (खून में कोलेस्ट्रॉल बढ़ना);
• High triglycerides in the blood (खून में चर्बी बढ़ना);
• High blood sugar (खून में शर्करा बढ़ना);
• Hridaya Roga (हृदय रोग);
• Uchcha Raktachap (उच्च-रक्तचाप);
• Tremor / Kampavata (कम्पवात);

2. Nasya - Put 1-2 drops of Jyotishmati Oil in each nostril, once or twice a day as such, or mixed in coconut oil / olive oil.
3. Local massage - 10-15 drops on the affected parts.
