Excellent video mate presentation is clear and concise!
Thank you! And, thanks for watching!
I cooled mine with a medium size drum and let the warm water drop on the ground not back in the drum and I put the tank in a thick pvc pipe in the barrel to keep it cool so not to hot fill and the pipe to help in case of explosion. Gx pumps are the best I found .
GX pumps are good. I agree. I have one too.
A little late to this video but I wish I wouldve never bought one of these junk let alone 2 ,the first one completely fell apart and has to be rebuilt constantly and the second one out of the box wont air past 3000psi ,I suggests not buying this crap.
That’s interesting. I’ve had mine for around 4 years and it’s still going strong. I know there are a lot of YH clones around and I would suspect that what you got. Just a thought.
male quickfill with 1way valve wll also help, prevens the tank air to flow out while letteing compressor air to go in
Yes! Thank you. I use one but most don’t have it so I didn’t mention it. Thanks for watching!
Hey my high compression piston seems to be going to high and locking up because it cannot return the stroke. I'm fairly used to piston strokes from racing motorcycles, 2 strokes, but this thing has ne really confused and hard to find good customer support. I'm getting ready to replace the whole unit or just whole top end but I'm really interested in figuring this out. Also, the top high compression piston is tight!
yes thank you
Thanks for watching!
A lot of wasted air with all those filters
There will always be a trade off between efficiency and safety. I’m wasting free air to ensure water stays out of my tanks. I think that’s a good trade.
What did your set up cost?
Wow. What a great question. I'm not going to have a great answer for you since I don't recall at this point, but know that I always consider costs and do extensive research before I buy anything. Know also that anyone getting into PCP airguns is going to spend far more than they think. It's really an addictive hobby/passion that lends itself to getting a lot of stuff. Nevertheless, most don't mind opening their wallets to buy a ton of fun. Ultimately, that's what it's about. Over time, the cost of shooting airguns will probably be less than powder burners considering the differential in ammo cost, but the initial costs will likely be much greater, especially for higher-end guns and air compressor setups.
Sir can we use coolant instead of water in bucket
No, I would not recommend that. Stick with water, but you could certainly add ice. Thanks
Great video, thanks for putting this out there!
Thanks for watching!
Why did you use a high pressure gauge to measure your tank pressure isnt there a pressure gauge on the tank shown??
Although your tank may have a "built-in" pressure gauge, depending on the quality of your tank, it may or may not be very accurate. Having a separate dedicated gauge is not a bad idea. At a minimum, you can compare gauges to see if they read the same or not. Dealing with extremely high pressure, it's a good idea to be as accurate as possible. It's just another layer of safety. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this. Just what I needed was a simple demonstration. I watched far too many videos that complicated things beyond my simple brain! Much appreciated! Do you recommend any particular filter or type of filter?
Thanks for watching. I use the "gold filter" that many others use. I ordered mine through Amazon. It has molecular sieve to get the water vapor out before it gets to your tank. I also use a water/oil separator filter before the "gold filter" to get most of the condensed water out. You will probably find some debate about using something like that, but I live in a high humidity area and can see the benefits when I open it during the filling process. A decent amount of water comes out. I don't think it hurts to have it.
Excellent video for a newbie - that's me!
Thank you very much for watching!
Thanks for the link as I just ordered a dropdown with gauge and fill valve for 10 year old tank. The piece you removed was the overpressure disk. Not sure what it's rated for but guessing 3200 psi. 2900 max for my old valve to keep from locking up. Thx!
..and you are lucky! I'm using a 3 lb hammer to break mine loose, no luck, but bends the SS bolt. Lol, I checked your video to make sure lefty loosey.
Finally! Had to use a pipe wrench directly on the collect as bolt close to breaking off when using that as a lever. Tank was slipping in wooden clamps! Sign of relief when valve broke free! Threads appear to have chemical residue..thread locker? Why Air Force? Anyway on to set up drop down adapter.
I modofied the crank shaft on mine to fit a bearing and built a chiller for it aswell. I also put a manometer an solid state relay for an auto shut off
That’s great. Sounds like you definitely know what you are doing. Great job!
@@jmarkreed i do what i can! Son of a brilliant millwright and it runs in my blood forsure! Ive got three of these compressors and heavily modofied one of them just for scientific purposes lol
Yes, i have a question. Why do i need to let the pressure build before opening the tank? Why can’t i have the tank open already?
Because unless the tank is completely empty, it would have a much higher pressure than the compressor at start up. You would essentially have a massive pressure gradient from the tank to the compressor and it would bleed back and destroy the compressor. Waiting on the fill line to reach the same pressure of the tank prevents the pressure gradient. Once you open the tank valve, the pressure in the tank must flow back toward the compressor unless you have a check valve installed to prevent that. Thanks for watching!
I fill mine the same way EXCEPT…..I literally put ice into my cooling tank to keep the compressor cool.
Yes! I definitely do the same. This video was not focused on the Yong Heng itself, but you can find my full YH set up in this video: czcams.com/video/JHeEOber4do/video.html Thanks for watching!
I’m very disappointed I ordered CF tanks on my bintac s45 They sent aluminum tanks ! Not sure what I can do?
I would definitely give them a call to get it right.
Great informative video! I just bought a 10ltr 300Bar tank but also debating over an oiless compressor for gun fills directly 🔥
Both good options. I use both myself. Thanks for watching.
I like all the info, very useful. It would be great to see all the connectors that are required between compressor and air bottle, and what each connector is called.
Great video Mark. The main cause of heat in the Yong Heng is the larger, lower cylinder. You have that covered with your high volume fan in the rear. People go crazy cooling the top and the lines, which are already water cooled. Like you, I use ice, which is a must. In the last year, prices have come down on the larger compressors. I recently saw the Hill, from the UK selling for under a thousand US dollars. I,however, am staying with my YH. It does the job at a bargain price.
Agree! Thank you.
I'm just starting with PCP and this is very valuable information. Thank you sir!
Thank you for watching, and get ready for the addiction!
What about a fill thats 4500psi .then its going to wear quick just to go from 200bar to 300bar
A view without the window in the background would have been better and A few close ups also
It’s not a window. It’s one of my pictures. I do a lot of photography. I agree with the close up’s. This was my first video and just used an iPhone. It was a little challenging. Thanks for watching.
This US metric drives me nuts.
hey mark what would you buy right away could you give me a shopping list of the things i need? i have the lasko fan and a bucket so far..
I think the only "essentials" besides a bucket with ice water are a good air filter like the "gold" filter and great oil. Everything else are very good extras (like the Lasko fan and a temperature gun) to monitor temperature and enhance cooling. Great oil keeps the YH running well, and a great filter keeps water out of your tank- both incredibly important.
Audio
Thanks fot the video
Thanks for watching!
I have the same set up, and I cut a little opening out of a one gallon milk jug Leaving the handle. and I fiill the milk jug up 3/4 of the way full and freeze them. So I have several of them in my freezer and then I put it in the 5 gallon bucket of water, I can fill a full tank an that water stays very cold and then when I'm done I just fill it back up an put it back in the freezer for next time. Works great
Yes, that's a great idea. I have an ice machine that makes it easier for me and gives me a good excuse to clean it out when I use the YH. Ice is definitely the key!
Hello Mark. I want to use a compressor to transfer Helium from large baloons back in to a cylinder/tank which has 200bar. I´m looking for a cheap transportable compressor which has like a small opening where is sucks the air which it is compressing so that i can add a tube and connect it with the baloon. So it musn´t have big slots and holes regarding this purpose. Can you please recommend me a Compressor ? Can you please tell me how the Yong Heng - Compressor absorbs the air , does it have a small hole ? PLeas help me , thx !!
Wow. That's an interesting question. I wish I could help you with it, but I can't recommend something that is outside the intended purpose of the unit. The YH has a small air intake, but I have no idea how you could attach a hose to it. I'm sure it could ultimately be done, but that doesn't mean that it's a good idea. Sorry, I'm not much help with this one.
Would you fill up a 74 cu ft in one shot ? With this yong heng thank you
No, definitely not. I just do incremental fills myself. I don't let the tank get too low. I'll usually get it down to around 200 bar before filling it back to 290 bar. I don't want to make the machine work too hard or too long.
@@jmarkreed ok I’m probably gonna get one and you wouldn’t atleast recommend 300 bar it’s still less then 310 bar.?
Well...my YH is the type that cuts off automatically at a certain pressure, and although I tell it to cut off at 300 bar, it wants to cut off at 290, so I let it. No sense in making a big fuss over 10 bar. It's happy and I'm happy.@@recklessjunkie
Awesome thank you for sharing
What is the gauge for on the top of the tank? It doesn’t tell you the pressure of the air inside the tank? Thanks
Yes, it's a pressure gauge, but most that you get on a lot of tanks are not necessarily great. Having a good quality gauge can be really helpful and there are some good alternative gauge options that you can use instead. Few gauges will continually read the internal tank pressure at all times.
I bought the yong heng knock off for 185.00 and I just past the 6 year mark with it, but it is now ready for a rebuild its slowed way down on the fill time just this year. I'm fixing to buy another one if I can get a true yong heng compressor
Wow, that’s fantastic! I’d say you got your money’s worth.
Can these be filled with a machine that fills oxygen tanks? 🤔
No
Thanks Mark. Am about to to just this. It was nice of you to demonstrate.
Thanks very much for watching! Hope it all goes well.
I’m new to this but it’s confusing. My understanding scuba tanks are cheaper because they are heavier and they have a lower capacity? My PCP rifle has a 250 bars/500 cc bottle attached to it. I asked someone else about using a small scuba to keep in my backpack for portability and average scuba tank for my car and he said the maximum average of an air tank is 3000 psi so this will not fully refill your airgun as you will be short of a full refill and as you keep refilling it, you will get less and less air into your airgun. If I can get more than one fill from a scuba tank, why won’t it fill my PCP gun fully the first time and less and less the more times you refill your PCP Gun? I have enclosed what he wrote before. This is the part I don’t understand. Simply put, How many times can I refill my gun with a small portable scuba tank and how many refills with a normal sized scuba tank?
Got one on the way. I see that the grease syringe is no longer supplied, cost saving? Lost of little questions popping up. Thanks for video!
Where I put the thermostat I can not find where this little pin need to go
The thermometer probe tip fits in the wide round silver base of the compression chamber (on top) just above the black portion on the handle side.
@@jmarkreed thanks I find it😅
another question I have a dragger one hr scab tank. I would like to change the regulator /fill valve to a pc p valve. Can you point me in. the right direction.? I purchased this valve before I got the tank and not sure of the thread [High Pressure Air Tank Charging Valve 300Bar Filling Station Cylinder Refill Adapter With M18x1.5 Thread ] from tuxing thanks for the time I want to use it as a buddy tank to tank on trips
I’ve learned you always bleed the compressor upfront before closing the tankvalve
Thanks. My tank (like most) does not have a check valve which would prevent the back flow of pressure towards the compressor. Once the compressor is stopped there should be equal pressure throughout the entire system and allow the closure of the tank valve without causing any pressure flow in either direction. Without a check valve on the tank, if the bleed valves are opened on the compressor pressure would start flowing from the tank towards the compressor and I would lose some of the pressure I’ve tried to save in the tank. That’s why I do it that way.
The most important thing you didn't say is how long it takes to fill the bottle up to, and what temperature we can let the compressor go without having problems damaging it? Compressor temperature is very important.
Thank you for watching. The main point of this particular video was to give a concise tutorial on the actual filling of a tank. The type of compressor or tank was not relevant for this discussion. I have a separate video discussing the Yong Heng in particular which may answer some of your questions. The time it takes to fill a particular tank completely depends on the size of the tank, the existing pressure in the tank, the pressure to ultimately be achieved in the tank, and the output capacity of the compressor used to fill the tank. There is no set time for filling any tank. I agree that compressor temperature is very important, and I address that in my Yong Heng video. As far as I know, there is no agreed to minimal temperature that would guarantee damage to the Yong Heng, but I would strongly recommend keeping the temperature as low as possible. Thanks again.
Hello, it's been a while since the video... One question... I have the same compressor. Is it normal that the red valve always releases air intermittently at slightly higher pressure? Maybe someone knows an answer?
How can I contact you?
Ok Iam totally green on the aspects of air gun tanks I have found a fireman’s tank just got to get the date off of it to see of any years left. But just wondering if the tuxing products are any good. I know some things are what you pay for Also already have the heng compressor. And large steel tank that has to be checked. But it will need the fill line and gauge for it also. Can you fill a buddy tank from a larger scuba tank. Hope I make sense Thanks Robert
Thanks for watching. As far as Tuxing tanks are concerned, I am unaware of any safety or quality issues. I think for many people they would be a good less expensive option. However, as far as I know (and I may be wrong), they do not have tanks that are DOT approved. That means that you would not be able to fill them in a SCUBA shop or other commercial business. They could certainly be filled by your own compressor. On the question of filling a buddy tank from a larger SCUBA tank- sure, as long as the pressure in the SCUBA tank is greater than what you need in the buddy tank. Go for it.
Hey just wondering which valve works with the firman tank The one I ordered looks smaller than the one that’s in Could you tell me which brand and size thread Bbb
Mark, I have enjoyed your videos being new to pcp air guns. I have ordered a 2L pcp tank that is 98mm in diameter. I have looked everywhere I could think of to find a stand like you are using on your various tanks to keep them standing. Could you advise where you located them? I appriciate any insight you might offer. Dave
Thank you very much for watching. For my SCBA tanks, I bought a tank boot on Amazon for $15 that fits perfectly (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SKJ96CQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1). For the small buddy tank, I made it out of PCP pipe and the base was the metal liner under the elements of a stove top. turned upside down. I'm not sure what it's called, but I was just walking around Home Depot and thought it would work- and it does! Spray painted black, it looks great.
Clear and concise information. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
So could you go over that again I just bought a young heng compressor
I have done everything that you have done, except for the second fan on the top blowing on the head. I never run mine more than 10 minutes, or past 60c temp, whichever comes first. I run Royal Purple oil in it. I have had 4 or 5 Yong Hengs in less than 2 years. I fill a 9L SCBA bottle from 220bar to 300bar most of the time. I have never gotten more than 10 running hours our of one. Yes, I did buy another one this week. Granted, it's doing the hardest part of the work all the time. But 10 hours? It should be better than that. Question: In the 3 years that you have had your compressor, how many working hours do you have one it?
That's interesting. I'm a little surprised, but I wonder if it all has to do with the fact that you're primarily filling a 9L tank. It would be interesting to see if the lifetime changes if you only fill a 6.8L (45 minute) tank instead. That's what I do, and I'm positive I have a lot more than 10 hours usage. I'll have to go back to my log book and add up the times to see what my total time is at this point. I would agree with you that you should be getting more than 10 hours. With this next one, you may also want to try Mobile Rarus oil to see if it makes a difference. It would be a good experiment.
@@jmarkreed Yes, I would be interested in seeing how many hours you have on your compressor. If oil is the problem, I have no problem buying whatever oil is best. I have tried a few different oils in the past. Royal Purple is a good oil. I have ran it in my supercharged car and transmissions, rear ends, etc. Atone point, the compressor supplier said to run it. I will look into the oil you are using.
Didn't know u had to fill the tank to put air in a gun lol now I'll have to buy a tank and a compressor 😦
Can directly fill gun from compressor or hand pump
