Check out Montegrappa's Steel Nib Range for 2020/21
Following on from my last video that guided you through how to change a Montegrappa Steel Nib, I’ve now had great joy trying out all 6 of the 2020/21 Montegrappa Steel Nib Grades in one sitting!
Specially manufactured in Germany by JoWo for Montegrappa, the range starts with Extra Fine and goes right through to 1.5mm Stub. Which one will you go for? Whether you wish to replicate an existing nib you use or if you fancy being creative with a new grade completely - Check this short video out to see my non-techy ‘walk/write through’ Montegrappa’s current steel nib selection.
My views are personal, non-commercial and born out of 40+ years of buying, selling and servicing pens for a living (now retired).
I hope you enjoy this video and as always, I'd welcome your feedback and views too.
Cheers

So, what's it like after 9 months of ownership? Is it smooth, does it give me inky fingers? Is the gold nib version a good buy? I hope this video answers some of these questions for you -...
Why Use A Fountain Pen by Jespers of Harrogate

      Hi and thanks for your question . . . Most bricks'n'mortar Montegrappa stockists in the UK will be able to get hold of replacement/extra nibs for their range and I think you can also buy from Montegrappa UK Direct at: www.montegrappa.co.uk/collections/montegrappa-elmo-01-collection/products/montegrappa-additional-nibs-for-elmo-ducale-harry-potter-fortuna-fountain-pens . . . Belated thanks for an excellent review. I thought I'd got Italian pens out of my system but the new Zero from Goldspot has caught my eye. So I thought I'd research their nibs, which I believe are Jowo, tuned in house?, as previous Italian nibs have been variable to say the least. These seem to be on the finer side, which suits me, as some medium and broads are like magic markers. Venice is special to me so I noticed the Murano. If they ever bring out a Torcello, the loveliest lagoon island IMHO, I probably won't be able to help myself, though resin has to be pretty special, by which I mean subtle and not gaudy, to please me.

      Thanks for your note Ronald. I was really pleased with how all these steel nibs performed and I've had my eye on the Zero for a while (but not saved enough pocket money yet lol!). If I did go Zero, I'd be tempted to go with the 14k nib options as I have a medium 14k in my treasured Monte Grappa and its lovely! You're right. Personalised/branded Jowo nibs are their stock offering although they tune and test in the factory. I think Montegrappa do have aspirations to produce their own nibs eventually too. Venice is a special place for us too and Bassano del Grappa (Montegrappa's home) is not many miles away! Cheers Peter J.

    • @thefountainpenfan9155
      @thefountainpenfan9155 Před 3 lety

      Hi Gordon and thank you for your note . . . My Monte Grappa has the medium nib fitted (gold option) and it has been an excellent starter but is not a gusher! I can see why you ask the question as on the video it seems quite fine for a medium nib and I think this is a fair description really. If you are firm on the paper (like me generally) it flows generously enough to please most; whilst giving good feedback too and if you are light, it will certainly err on the finer side (especially if you hold the pen more upright). That saying it never feels too dry either! I tend to use either medium nibs or stub 1.1's and I have a Waterman Charleston with their medium gold nib fitted that is beautiful, but quite a bit broader than my Monty. Any other questions . . . please ask away! Best wishes Peter J.

      Peter, thanks for your reply to my comment. I appreciate it. I’ve just watched your last video about entry-level pens. Good one !. In truth there are other good and very affordable fountain pens (think of the PILOT’s, for example), but one cannot show all that is out there, obviously. Your message is clearly delivered: fountain pens are to be enjoyed by anyone. It is quite hard to make intelligent suggestions about novel subjects related to fountain pens. Honestly, there are very good reviewers in CZcams (both independent or linked to a business) that have already covered plenty of themes: nib styles, inks, paper and so on. Even so you may go over those subjects in your own style. It won’t harm anyone and most likely someone out there will learn something new. Also, something I particularly enjoy is when a reviewer tells about the history of a particular pen model or the brand. For example, Mr. David Parker at the channel “Figboot on Pens” does a great job in this regard. You may consider this too. All the best, and I encourage you to keep loving fountain pens and keep sharing your knowledge through CZcams videos.

      @@carlosfarre8254 Thanks for such comprehensive feedback - Much appreciated! I've seen and enjoyed some of Figboot on Pens stuff as well as others. What I do like about the FP world is that we all have differing views on the same issues. It's always subjective and personal, so if I do cover old ground with future CZcams posts it will still be watchable (hopefully) as my opinion and experience will be different to that of other contributors. Best wishes Peter J. (PS. If you're using Facebook & Instagram, please check out 'The Fountain Pen Fan' on both - It's all a fledgeling hobby that's keeping me out of mischief post retirement lol).
