    I would highly recommend to canoeist that they consider selecting an Ostrom Outdoors Canoe Pack. For long trips I highly recommend the Wabakimi Canoe Pack with an internal frame. These packs are completely customized to your torso, shoulders and hips. No other manufacturer offers a pack like Ostrom’s. Why? These are designed by canoeist and tested by canoeist and manufactured to the highest possible standards.

    thanks for the info, I was wondering if you have any opinion on standard packs interfering with the fitment of the canoe yolks.

    • @TheTrippingAuthority
      @TheTrippingAuthority Před 8 měsíci

      In my experience it often depends on how ur bag is packed, I find if it’s over stuffed and the lid of the pack is resting too high up, it can certainly interfere, especially if the pack is touching the canoe above your head. I’d say play around with it, move things around and try to pack it in such a way that the canoe yolk rests nicely on your shoulders, I even have found that if packed optimally it can often help with the stability of the canoe on your shoulders even making it easier to balance. Each pack is different so their will always be variations in fit and sizing but make sure the fit is right for you and that they don’t sit too high as packs that are too tall don’t portage well. Hope this was helpful, happy tripping.

    Thanks for a great video. Is there any difference in sizing for solo pack canoes, since you're sitting low in the boat. I'll probably be using a kayak paddle most of the time, but I want to have a canoe paddle too for tight spaces where it's hard to swing a kayak paddle.

  • @NikonF5user
    @NikonF5user Před rokem

    Respectfully, this is not a C stroke, this is a sweep. A C stroke is much like a J stroke, but at the beginning of the stroke you reach forward and out, with a slight draw towards the boat. You then continue along the boat and finish like a traditional J stroke. The true C stroke is the backwards geometry to what you demonstrate. It's a great stroke to use when powering from a stop as the draw motion swings the bow towards the paddle a bit, correcting for the yaw of the power portion of the stroke...

    So, I got 30” cause I’m about 220 with my pack, but they seemed a little much with an already well broken trail. Can I size down? I am using them to hike high peaks, but there aren’t too many tough scrambles on the trails I’m looking at, but will be doing some bushwhacking. Already prepping for next winter. Thanks!

    • @TheTrippingAuthority
      @TheTrippingAuthority Před 2 lety

      If it’s a well broken track particularly with already packed snow u should be fine to size down a little bit, but if you’ll be Bush whacking in deep snow any smaller and you won’t have adequate “Floatation” in the snow, it really depends on the snow conditions. Have a good one out there!

    What ifs you don't have a yoke on your canoe?

    • @TheTrippingAuthority
      @TheTrippingAuthority Před 3 lety

      That makes things difficult, canoes like that aren’t really meant to be carried solo. I’d say carry it tandem or get a canoe / kayak cart for it. Although, I have found that with some aluminum canoes, (ie. sportspal) you can carry em solo with a pack using the thwart closest to the center of the canoe, although you may need to spin it around and carry it backwards for weight distribution.
