Ah, now i get it why the Parabolica curve is parabolic nowadays. After the closure of the oval, the last turn had to open up to meet the outer straight.

I've always wanted a watch strap made to look like a Dunlop R5 tyre pattern. Any ideas ?

Totalmente de acordo. Este circuito era espectacular como era originalmente. O mesmo crime foi feito no Estoril, onde mataram a curva 1,e a, do Tanque de forma totalmente desnecessária. Aliás, o ganhar escapatória na curva da Parabolica podia de igual forma ter sido feito na Curva 1 e na do Tanque, mantendo assim o virtuosismo do traçado original. Lamentavelmente assim não foi.

Le V12 MATRA est impressionnant! Et cette phase de pleine charge... quasi 50 secondes!!!! Même le Nascar ou l'Indycar aujourd'hui ne permettent pas ça. Les Hunaudières sans chicanes, c'est comme expliquer à un gamin ce qu'était Paris - New-York en Concorde. Encore que là, il y a la vidéo...

I agree with you on much of this, but once the big $ came into play pretty much anything of value went out. I think even Bernie in recent years has realized how his work has damaged the sport in the long run. I followed F1 avidly from the mid 70's till when Schumi retired the first time, then kind of lost interest. I came back when I heard that Andretti was working on getting an entry, but the response to that has turned me away again. F1 would be better off I think just going over to IRacing, ie all online with no real cars, tracks, or crowds. It would mean about as much as it does with the current situation.

I am also for the old times, apart from the dying. In the old times there were more old drivers: Fangio, Nuvolari, Chiron, Etancelin, Rosier, Farina, Bonetto, Hill, Brabham, Villoresi, Taruffi, Trintignant... I think one should recreate a Lancia D50 with a halo and do F1 races with it. I like the small tyres and the drifting of the fifties.

Man glaubt, dass viele Funktonäre nicht verstanden haben, was für eine sensationelle Rennstrecke Hockenheim war. Eine der schönsten Rennstrecken der Welt. Der heutige Mickey Mouse Kurs ist Schrott und nicht mal mehr im F1 Kalender. Was für ein trauriges Ende, wenn Armleuchter Zugriff haben. Ich werde das echte Hockenheim niemals vergessen !

Superbe ! Avec les commentaires de Pesca c'est géant. Pour avoir rattrapé et suivi une Matra (F1) j'ai pu voir comme ces autos anciennes etaient instables en piste. La moindre erreur se payait cash à une époque où tous les dispositifs de sécurité midernes n'existaient pas.

Just found and subscribed to your channel, as I’m a long time racing fan/driver and also into video/music. I couldn’t be bothered with F1 for the last 2 decades, but thankfully there’s a ton of historic/vintage racing coverage that can easily fill that void. My argument for years has been that technology is what is killing the sport, and the only way to save F1 as a driver’s sport is to change the rules so that at least 25% of the outcome is back in the hands of the driver. Everything else is of secondary importance.

What a treat! The old circuit was the best, it was never quite the same after they cut up the mulsanne straight. And the sound of that matra V12 - you wouldn't tire of listening to it, even for 24hrs!

Sitting at Crowthorne (Kyalami, South African GP & 9 Hour) and listening to that screaming V12 exiting Leeukop and hammering all the way down the main straight going up through the gearbox and then down when breaking for Crowthorne..............

I "watched" this year's race, which is to say, I put it on the DVR to watch later. The modern 24 hours is not what it once was, a true 24 hour race, for example Mr Pescarolo here. Today's racing consists of safety cars, "slow zones" (?) for some reason with endless waving of yellow flags (cleaning the track, removing junked cars along the side of the road, and God know whatever else the organizers dream up.) We're all for safety, of course, but sometimes it rains in the Sarthe, which used to mean wet tires and driving more cautiously. Now of course it's 3 safety cars and endless enjoyment watching the cars go at slow speed, again, and again, and again, lap after lap, after lap, as the minutes and hours tick by. With the DVR now, you simply fast forward! Don't you wish you could do that during the actual race? It's fun watching these old films, especially the Mulsanne, which once was a true, straight blast, with the white-painted tree trunks to make sure you don't hit them (!). Nowadays you can't find a track in Europe that has been emasculated by chicanes and other safety features. And then there's the weird hybrid whistle inside the car as it "shifts" gears. I think today's race organizers truly hate the fans.

Fantastic sound of the Matra V12, compare that to today's hybrids. Pesca won three Le Mans as he wasn't hard on the car, the start drivers, Cevert and Beltoise always caned the car with the inevitable consequences. Graham Hill in 72 and Gerard Larrouse in 73/74 were Pescas co drivers . Thanks for this gem. Had my 36th visit to the Sarthe this year, a fabulous 11 days.
