Very nice details on your video… I have this exact bike and I liked the high rise handle bars and strap on bag… I’m getting it tuned up right now, I’m going to call the shop tomorrow and have them add the high rise bars 👍 thank you kindly
you may need them to extend the brake wiring to get the hi rise bars.
I appreciate the time you put into this overview of the EST. I have been considering it for my next multi-day ride (after RAGBRAI in a few weeks). I just finished the C&O/GAP about 2 weeks ago, as well as riding on the Hudson - north from Jersey City, across the GWB, and through Central Park and around Manhattan this past weekend. Agree about water availability issues! There were a few multi-mode fountains near DC on the C&O, but potable water was scarce on several parts of the C&O/GAP trail system without having to detour into a town. Also, I could not find a single functional water fountain in NYC/Greenway Trail/Central Park, except for nice bottle filling spigots BEHIND the public toilets at the Pier 15 Esplanade on the East River Greenway, which I found by accident. I like those tall pedestal type fountains, which can provide a "bubbler", water bottle filling station, as well as a wheelchair/child height bubbler, and a dog bowl thing. Amazed (or not) at the lack of infrastructure for non-auto transportation in so many areas. Given that those water fountains retail for $4-6K each, not including running the water line, plumbing it, mounting it, I can see why many areas wouldn't have them. I do prefer bucolic, shaded single track gravel over over a paved path near a busy highway any day! Thanks again for this very helpful info!
Nice breakdown. I would like to do Buffalo to Albany. Just finished the GAP/C&O. Great trip! I personally like the single and double track trails. Well done, thanks for sharing.
Buffalo to Albany is fun, but i Iiked the Albany to NYC leg more.
@@NewYorkBikeWorld I’ll have to consider that leg as well, thx.
You need to go early in the AM
Hi where exactly is this bike path and how long is the path?
That specific bike path starts at the East 177th Street and Devoe Avenue entrance to the park, but there are multiple bike paths that go throughout the entire park.

A meme a day keeps the doctor away
It’s probably one of the best biking experiences in the region. Bollards are the to stop motor vehicles, sometimes you have to wait at an intersection. People going past each other is just the normal thing to do. What did you expect a parade?

What
It's Queens, NY. Jamaica is a neighborhood in Queens.

It's like they designed LaGuardia to be hard to get to
yes, but I think the more likely story was that they were not thinking
People can only take taxi 🚕 cabs to LGA. Anything else is against the law.
do you even ride a bike?! you call yourself a man...
Actually the landscaping on exit 15 there is surprisingly legit
me likey the landscaping!
You should be ripping that $80M descent at 15mph!

Biking on a highway isn’t really dignified. Where’s that even go?

Now do Laken Riley.
Who is Laken Riley?
Thank you for your help!
I hope it was informative. By far my biggest issue was chafing and saddle sores. Make sure to wear bike shorts and use chamois cream!
Is the attitude "build the bike lanes and they will come"?
yes, the more connectivity in the network, the more people will feel comfortable biking.
Hit the road jack😂
got stuck in here, had to turn around
This video is n uch appreciated, I’m trying to go from NYC to buffalo, but trying to save some money by camping a bit. Did you notice any decent campgrounds along the trail itself?
there is a lot of camping along the canal. Parks and Trails New York has a nifty map which you should study if you try to camping/bikepacking along the trail www.ptny.org/cycle-the-erie-canal/camping
i decided to not camp. i would budget at minimum $120 a night for hotel if you don't camp. I didn't do the camping thing but it looked like a lot of people were having fun camping, some of the campgrounds have bathrooms and I think showers.
Thanks for the info. I will be camping for the 2 weeks of my trip, first bikepacking tour
Thanks for this! Planning this trip for summer 2024
I hope you get some good info here for your trip!
I am also. I am taking the two weeks after Memorial Day to do the tourist thing. I am from Maine and love upstate NY
Good I'm glad you found this informative.@@danalaine2403
Dang i missed it
There's got to be another job. Those delivery apps rob those workers. Uber all that. Don't do it
On top of the job sucking and paying slave wages, who wants to order a hamburger, fries and milkshake for 40 dollars and it arrive cold and soggy to your apt?
Great video, thanks for making the trip report
thank you very much. It means a lot to me that you looked through it and I hope you can get some insights. for more info go to my website at www.nybike.world
Great place, beautiful views over the New York 👍
Great view north of New York Harbor!
So, that's the end of Empire State Trail. I finished my Empire State Trail ride in my hotel instead. Ride on!
which hotel did you stay at in NYC?
@@NewYorkBikeWorld I actually stayed in the HI Hostel. You pay only a fraction of hotel prices and it's pretty comfy.
Shut up an hop the side walk or learn to pop a wheely, the world isnt pwrfect for anyone.
wah wah wah wah i cry everytime i see a bike
doing a wheelie while going over the grate would still mean you have one wheel getting caught in the grate while riding over it. If there was a large ditch in the road to get a car tire stuck in, you wouldn't say "drive around the ditch" you would have the road designed and maintained so that wouldn't happen.
New York State has so many beautiful bike trails. I need to look up where is this trail exactly and ride it hopefully next year. I did the Albany to NYC Empire State Trail including Hudson Valley trail. 👍
yes, you did the albany to nyc leg...next summer try the buffalo to albany section. all along the erie canal!!
@@NewYorkBikeWorld I actually did the Erie Canal trail first and then went back after a month and rode the other leg from Albany to NYC 2023 Empire State Trail from Buffalo to NYC: czcams.com/play/PLGC9EoydSUh9hl_Ghs_nX8yGnRxZJf7-2.html
very cool. I watched some of your videos and subscribed. I hope I can make some of my videos edited well like yours! Which part did you like more, buffalo to albany, or albany to nyc? @@FollowThomas
@@NewYorkBikeWorld They're very different and beautiful, both are fun to ride but I think Erie Canal Trail is easier to ride. Thanks for subscribing. I will check out some of your videos as well. Take care!
awesome. watch my videos and read my blog diary of the entire trip here: www.nybike.world/post/empire-state-trail-buffalo-to-nyc@@FollowThomas
Nice video. Planning on this trip in 2024. Thanks for the details!

looks fine. Holland, known for its great bike infrastructure is way busier and more dangerous than this, especially in Amsterdam.
I didn't get a good video of the bollards which are major pinch points. This area to the right is a cruise ship terminal so there are usually a lot of people with big luggage too crossing.😬
Stop complaining
I see you have exactly zero youtube videos. maybe u should upload some.
Rode this bike at my local bike store recently; didn't care for it, too jarring for me at least. A Giant Escape next to it rode and felt much better. But I like your enthusiasm!
funny you mention that. i have a steel single speed fuji declaration which i like a lot more, much smoother ride. i hear aluminum frames can be more jarring like you said. oh well. i also wish i had gotten the jumbo instead of the XL as the XL might be a tad small for me. its truly amazing that things like an inch here or there on the frame make such a huge difference.
@@NewYorkBikeWorld may I know your height and inseam? cuz I am choosing between L and XL for Quick 2.
I am 6 foot 4 and wear a size 36x34 pant. I was on the fence between the XL and the Jumbo, which was one size larger. I decided to get the XL and sort of regretted it. I added high rise handlebars as well as put my seat as far back as the seat post can go. I wish i loved the geometry better on this bike. @@Shtrafniki
@@NewYorkBikeWorld Thank you. I am 6 foot. I just got XL Quick 2 yesterday. It feels more comfortable than L. I fall in both L and XL on website recommendation. I think for in-between sizes the smaller frame is more aero but the larger is more comfy.
I have a Q3 and I love it swapped out the tires for 700x40 and it rides like a champ.
Is this Wayne or Orleans county? I didnt know Wayne county had any drawbridges
could be orleans. the drawbridge was over the erie canal
I think they want you to turn left across the path but idk
for more info check out my website and blog www.nybike.world
People just never moved their cars when they were painting the bike lane haha
No, i think the city just decided to not deal with it politically. strange because you would never design a road that just ends for a short section to detour.

go america!
Isn’t that near Vancortland Park?
yup only a few blocks away!
@@NewYorkBikeWorldI thought so! I drive around in circles every year looking for parking for the cross country meet. I’ve wondered where the people park who live in those buildings across from the park.
my hunch is a lot of the people in those buildings don't own cars and take the bus or train.@@vincentprospero2809
