I want to inspire people with stuff that I found out - mainly about the SY77 (which I own since 2020) one of the greatest synths I ever had.

After over 20yrs, my first polysynth (bought in 1988) returned in repaired and serviced form. Also it was equiped with the Tauntek Frimware. So my Novatio can edit it via CC. I guess we will have a lot of fun in the future. The architecture of the Bit is not very complex but it has such a beautiful sound....

The K4 does not have so many parameters but because of it´s architecture I set up 2 templates. S1 & S2 and S3 & S4. It would be great if the screen of the K4 would display the incoming changes to the parameters - but even the latest OS Rom doesnt help with this. To keep a bit on track you have to manually switch the menu. But on the other hand - i dont find the K4 so complexe that you realy nee...

not much to say about - just playing some synth - drenched in reverb SY77 plays a 4 AWM Voice so it´s hooked up to the TG77 for 8 voice polyphony

A unique way of making weird sounds is the possibilty to route an AFM voice into itself as Feedback loop. therefore you have to choose AFM as waveform in am AWM element. The part with the LogicX modulation starts at 2:10
SY77 Voice Randomizer

With the help of VCV Rack2 and BOME MIDI Translator I made a Randomizer for the SY77.

Finally i set up my 2 controllers to gain access to the EGs of the SY. Thanks to the abilities of BOME i am able to edit all EGs of 2 AFM Elements and the "important" Oscillator parameters with those 2 controllers. Sometimes i still struggle with the complexity... :-D The Novation is somehow replacing 192 potis at once...(2 x EGs for 2 x AFM) BTW: this setup can also control my TG77 and the TX802.

It´s a combo of voices that can only be done with rerouting the MIDI to all the channels. so the SY would not be able to do it in standard.
isn´t the Zero MK2 capable of send SysEx too?
That is true. But to make a controller for 6 EGs it was easier for me to set up several presets in Bome (CC to Sysex) that can be used single or in combination. Otherwise i would have to switch novation templates and would only be able to control one EG at once.
Great. This is a real synth. Not your average Behringer or preset Roland crap.
The Himer is one of the few sy77 programmer musician that I respect here on CZcams making sy77 videos,.... and that list is very short! -Gallery Wave

Those Novation controllers are awesome. They packed a lot of functionality into them.

For some reason I can't get the Ctrlr panel to work with my TG77. Is there anything special you needed to do to get the SY77 to work? I'd definitely rather edit patches via my PC than the front-panel.
am trying to build my own HW controller to do this, starting with a small test setup based on arduino. got an sy99 such an undervalued synth, I I could control it with a better UX inteface it would be a monster synth

I bought a SY77 two years ago. It is not in a good state. A couple of the keys are broken, and one of the Patch buttons (Patch C) is stuck. Wonder if I can get it loose by cleaning it, but it seems to have been knocked a bit to the side, so it doesn't click anymore.

I have no idea about Ableton but meanwhile i use Bome MIDI Translator for these tasks. Even better than what Logic can do.

@@tristansotomayor8354 Yes man!! I used VCV rack for this purpose already. It works great. Keep in mind that you can "thin out" the data in BOME. (works via rules) Very useful when you send multiple parameters at once. The MIDI engine of the SY can be overflown pretty easy.

Yes I have the same synth and controller. I've fixed it myself by changing a chip and clearing with a spray but it's not perfect, I should service it properly too. The sound is fantastic and with tanutek firmare is so easy to program.
Mine had developed over 10 cold solder joints...

Love this! I honestly might buy a zero for this reason
In fact you may use almost any controller. my second Zero is only sending out CCs which are translated to sysex via BOME Midi translator. This allows also to combine several presets for EGs. Since the MIDI traffic isnt that fast anyway there is no big latency in the translation. Also gives you the abilty to use other sources of CC to control sysex features. f.ex. controlling the LFO speed or waveshape with the modulation wheel of your masterkeyboard

Well I have to admit that I already made one about this. But haven’t made a really detailed one. YTer silverlight2004db made some some about the Novation controller. The most important thing is to check out which parameters you want to edit and which sysex code they have.

Even the sequencer!? Incredible. The SY77 really is nearly limitless with its modulation options. Love this machine.
Sometimes I think they intended their sysex implementation to be used to a massive extent
@@thehimer3903 Yamaha certainly designed it with more programmability and control than meets the eye. A sheer labyrinth of potential! Makes me think there must have been some SY series-compatible midi controller on the drawing board that never made it to final release... It would be fun to do some digging and find out!
This year, on December 1st, the sy77 synthesizer turns 35. Let's start celebrating!
