This is awesome! This brought back my walk memories from Aug/Sept 2023. Great documentary!
Loved it thanks
Very nice! Where did you get the days walked sign on your backpack? I gotta find one of those.
Thanks. My daughter made it for me. I marked off each day myself. Buen Camino.
Hi Mark. Elegantly presented, sober analysis, clearly based on good planning and realistic expectations. Your bundled product will be fundamental to planning our next Camino in late March 2025. I walked the full Camino in 2018 to Muxia via Finesterre, but still found plenty of valuable insights from your film. Buen Camino.
Thanks. That’s great you got the digital bundle. It’s packed full of valuable info about walking the Camino Frances. Enjoy and Buen Camino.
My wife and I bumped into you in May 2022 when you were researching the Camino for a video (this Video I assume!). Somewhere between Sarria and Santiago. So fun to see the final product!
3:44 I adore this type of weather to hike through! What season or month would it have to be to experience this?
Do you book your hotels from Day 1-Day Z.... or you just go and pick whatever is available. I am planning my retirment trip and this seem amazing, but I am a bit worry, if i need or want to stay one more night, or too tired and need to rest one more day before going on the next day trip, then all hotel bookings will be in trouble, thanks and look forward to hearing from you. ( or other CZcams viewers who could share your experience )
Yes this is an important topic that I discuss in my extended documentary. It's part of a digital download (link in description). I booked all of my accommodation in advance which has positives and negatives. I was producing a documentary so needed to know for certain I had a booked room each night. I also needed private space since I was working every night, charging camera batteries, etc. On my next Camino journey I will book 7-10 days of accommodation and see how I get on then book rooms accordingly. Some towns are so busy so if you arrive to book a room after lunch all the rooms will be gone. So my opinion is book in advance when possible.
Beautiful documentary, well done.
Thank you. Buen Camino.
Excellent Camino video. You are obviously a pro.
Thanks. Yes I’ve worked in video production for over 20 years. I specialise in outdoor recreation, travel and adventure productions. Buen Camino.
@@FlaglerFilms figured. Camino videos are impossible to keep short. You kept it around 30 minutes yet it was packed with great information, scenes, and touching stories. Plus, you never complained about blisters or swollen knees. Haha. Really enjoyed your presentation. I'm gonna have to steal your techniques. 😆
your video brings back some of my memory. i did mine 12 months ago.
Thanks. Buen Camino
What a great day - thank you. Such a speedy pace! Nice to see the sun out for you 😀
Thanks. Buen Camino.
Awesome watch Mark. Really enjoyed watching this. I definitely want to walk this.. Very inspiring 🔥❤️👍👍
Thanks. I highly recommend walking on a Camino. Buen Camino.
Forgive me, but your pronounciation of all these places was grating. Solution, sound off. Great visuals 🙂
Well done ❤
I love your video - but you are mispronouncing sepulcher - google it.
❤An adult’s way to look at a long challenge. My St. Thomas friend walked it 20 years ago. She felt alone as an American but her Christian beliefs strengthened and she has no regrets. 🔯☕️I find it intriguing but as a Jew it would be unrealistic to actually try. It is for Christians, not for the people who don’t find comfort in a Spanish Jesus. Still, I do want to visit and maybe walk a couple of days on the path closest to the sea. This is where the Jews would go to escape to France in the 1300s-1600s.
The only thing you have/need for the (entire) pilgrimage is "The Jesus Prayer." Just that, ceaseless prayer... all the way. Everything else is a distraction.
Te felicitó por este magnífico video, gracias por compartir. Buen Camino para todos los peregrinos.👏👏👏🍀🍀
Thank you. Buen Camino
Great documentary! Very informative and to the point. Thank you! :)
Thanks. Buen Camino
Beautifully told story. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Buen Camino.
I just recently have walked from Portugal (Asseiceira-Tomar) to Santiágo de Compostela and loved every single step of the journey! 493 kms,Blessed ones!
Buen Camino
Thank you for your wonderful doco on the Camino. May I ask how heavy your backpack weighed with all your camera gear.
Thanks. My pack was around 28 pounds. That included all my video production equipment (video camera, drone, tripod, iPhone stabilizer, and all video accessories) plus additional clothes, walking gear, water and snacks for the day.
Absolutely fantastic depiction of the Camino. This brought back so many beautiful memories, thankyou. Im going again next year🙏🧡
Thanks. Enjoy your upcoming journey. Buen Camino.
Wonderful! Thank you
Thanks. Buen Camino
Absolutely amazing. Thanks for sharing your adventure. I recommend you visit the himalayan mountains k2 and Nangaparbat view point from one place moses peak. Add this sound in your bucket list.
Thanks. Yes, I'm planning to trek in Nepal this year and climb a 6,000m mountain. Buen Camino.
@@FlaglerFilms thanks for reply. After trak nepal in future you should add himalayan sounds in your bucket list. Cheers
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I'm very interested to do this Camino. If I may, how much would you recommend to budget for the 37 day journey? Thanks!
Well I was walking and filming a documentary so had to have a private room booked each night. I had to work a couple hours in the evening and needed space to do that. My trip would be more expensive than getting a bunk space in an alburgue or hostel. I know people who walked the Camino Frances for around $20-$30 a day and other who spent much more than that.
Everyone refers to the Camino Frances...The French Way. However not many people seem to know why it's called The French Way. Spoiler alert...it's not because it starts in St Jean Pied de Port. If you would like to know the real reason I highly recommend a wonderful book called The Four Roads To Heaven...France and the Santiago Pilgrimage by Edwin Mullins.
Saved this to watch later! I did the Camino Inglés last year and I’m doing the Camino Portugués in May. ☺️⛰️🙏🏼
That's great. I plan to walk the Camino Portugues in the next couple of years. Enjoy. Buen Camino.
Sold. Bucket list. Doing it.
Thanks. Buen Camino
Hi Mark, Great Documentary!!! Our family of 3 will begin end of May 2024 What dates did you go total days with rest days Thanks BTW my husband has same pack for our Camino. ( is see that you hiked in longs the whole time ) 😊
My journey was 37 day. I walked for 33 days and took 4 rest days. I walked in mid April and May. Enjoy the Camino.
Hi! What month did you go? You said “spring storms” but it was snowing also. We’re going this April and trying to figure out what to pack. Thanks!
I started on April 14th. Yes it did snow during that spring storm. My advice is to prepare for colder weather conditions over the Pyrenees Mountains. Days before and after the storm the weather was cool and not cold. Better to be prepared and not use the warmer clothing/gear than not have it at all. Enjoy the Camino.
THANK YOU!! That’s exactly when we’ll be starting. Did you carry a tent? We have one that is super light but bulky and are leaning toward not bringing it. Just curious if you think we should.
@@laurab344 personally I would not carry a tent. In most places along the route in Spain it is illegal to camp. Some people do stealth camp but I wouldn't risk it. Buen Camino.
THE EXACT DENOMINATION OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS ; EL CAMINO DE SANTIAGO....AND NOT THE FRENCH WAY..... CAMINO IN SPANISH MEANS ....PATH.....IT'S THE "PATH TO SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA.... COMPOSTELA MEANING ...STARS FIELD. YOU WALKED IN SPAIN....NOT IN FRANCE.... SO LESS" FRENCH WAY."...AND ONLY ...EL CAMINO DE SANTIAGO....MAKES SENSE....DOES IT NOT ?.... 😮😅😊
Thanks for the message. The route is also called the Camino Frances and also know as the French Way. This is what all the pilgrim offices along the Caminos call this route. And you are correct, all these routes are the El Camino de Santiago. Buen Camino.
It was so inspiring to watch your documentary ... as you said, just go! Open your heart and minds to the adventure of living. I'll be on The Path this coming May .... sooooo grateful for good health to walk it. Thank you.
Thanks. Buen Camino
Informative video, but disappointed that you promoted running of the bulls.
Beautifully done!
Thanks. Buen Camino
There were over 446,000 pilgrims who received their compostelas in Santiago in 2023. There were many pilgrims who completed a Camino without getting a compostela. The total number of pilgrims was estimated at around 600,000. Just over one-third of the total walked from Sarria.
You are correct. 219,789 people walked on the French Way in 2023. Well that’s how many people applied for their Camino Frances Compostela. The pilgrim office gave me the pilgrim statistics.
I walked the Frances first in 2007 starting from Poitiers...close to my home at the time. I arrived in Santiago and was the only pilgrim in the cathedral square. I have walked multiple Caminos since. Each year gets busier. Last year was crazy busy. Unfortunately the nature of the Camino has changed with hikers outnumbering pilgrims. On 29th April I arrive in Sevillle from Edinburgh and start walking the VDLP/Sanabrés route. My treat to myself for my 75th year. Ultreia et Suseia. I enjoyed your video. @FlaglerFilms
@@harrykey2448 that's great. Thanks. Buen Camino.
its called EL CAMINO DE SANTIAGO!!!! WHY THE FRENCH WAY????
There are over 281 Caminos throughout the world. Each of these Routes has a name. I walked the Camino Frances also known as the French Way. Buen Camino.
Greetings from New Zealand! Fantastic documentary Mark, really nicely done, you have a very easy style which makes watching a pleasure. I have the French Way on my "Wow list" of things to do, can I ask what month you started? Apart from the cold and wet start, the rest looked to be pleasant walking conditions.
Is there a clear route to follow the entire way, or do people take different routes to get to the same destinations?
Yes there is a clear route with Camino markers, arrows, signs, etc. Sometimes the route will have an alternative route or Complimentario route but leads to the same place
@@FlaglerFilms that's great, I appreciate you're response! I'm doing the Camino Frances in two weeks and CANNOT wait.
That's great @@MK-hl2rl. Enjoy and Buen Camino.
That was beautiful! Thank you for sharing your journey with us. The views were breathtaking. I also liked your interviews of other people, and that your vid isn't too long. I hope to do the Camino in future. Take care. Buen camino!
Thanks and Buen Camino.
I walked the Camino in 2015. This is well done and takes me back. What you said about feeling relaxed…. Spot on. I walked also the same person day as you. For anyone else. Walk it YOUR speed. Really get in harmony with walking effortlessly
Thanks. I agree about walking your own pace/speed. Buen Camino.
My friend Da son is going to walk it in about a month. He told Me he’s seen many videos on CZcams. I sent Him yours. I made a dvd out of About 1400 still shots Set to music Have not watched for a while When it’s been 8 years for you This film is gonna blow you away
Thank you fur such a thoughtful film
please, what's the date, start and finish, that you do this camino?
May and June 2023
Where can I stream this movie?
Twice on the Camino Frances and I give your video 5 ☆s. A wonderful comprehensive overview of the high points of the Camino. Absolutely loved it. My first Camino was in 2010 and I'm amazed how much the trees on sections of the Meseta, which were newly planted, now have matured and actually provide some shade. What did you use to film your trip? The image quality is excellent. I like that you added the narrative when you produced the the video. I'll have to watch more of your videos. Thanks for the gift.
Love love love this! Appreciate the tips and insights along with the breathtaking vistas. On the bucket list now! Thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks. Buen Camino.
So well done, Mark! Thank you for taking us back along this route. So many beautiful memories of sweeping views, sunrises and sunsets. I particularly appreciated the explanations of your detours into the churches and monasteries. Keep up the good work. All the best in your travels and hope you make it back to the Camino just for yourself with no cameras.
Which month did you go
I walked April and May 2023
