My first love was the 1954 Healey 100-4 BN-2 with overdrive, bought used in 1962 for $800. I had so many great times outside Austin Texas racing a buddy on a BSA 650 through the hills. Had to add a quart of oil every gas fill up until I had the engine rebuilt in 1963. Just got the tranny rebuilt in 1964 before the Lucas wiring shorted out at 3:00 a.m. and burned the entire baby. Sold for parts for $35. Now I'm in line for an Aptera.

At 77 years old, I and these three cars were young enough in their day for me to have some direct experience with ll three. I'd say that the MGB was the most constricted and the slowest. By modern standards, its handling was pitiful. It was not very well-built, and the floor panels would rot out, ejecting its two, 6-volt batteries out the bottom of the car like two little bombs. The TR-4 was much like the MGB experience, but bigger and more durable. Still under-powered, and it had better handling. The 3000 was more powerful. Its transmission would stand up to more hard driving. It was built tighter than an MGB, but less so than the TR-4 IMO. By comparison, they rapidly became rattle-traps. The steering was tight and handling better, but its weakness was ride and comfort - it had none. It felt like riding on a powered skateboard at any speed. In the end, I went with an Opel GT, but if I had picked one of the three, it probably would have been the Triumph.

I need a set of those rear mud flaps. I deleted the butt cheeks on my 242 which removes the standard 240 mounting point. 242 GTs and Bertones had the correct mud flaps

I picked up an 81 244 it had been sitting in a garage for over 20 years the exhaust fell off it and was laying underneath it it only has 150K miles on it but I think the metal is rotten I noticed when I picked it up not at the jack points it crushed in a bit. I tried to get it running and that was an adventure, from the fuel pump being seized, to all the rubber fuel lines rupturing oh and of course vid19 and everything was closed

I own a 1967 Triumph TR4A IRS here in Los Angeles. I have owned the car for 15 years now and it is restored. I have replaced the transmission with a Toyota 5 speed. The car shifts like butter and the motor likes it better at highway speeds. No more slave cylinders to worry about. I did have one fail on a long weekend vacation once and I had to have a new one to be shipped by FedEx. It is a part that is sold at Moss Motors and it is not a part the parts stores carry. I do love the design of the Austin Healey. I would love to drive one to compare. My favorite Austin Healey color is all blue with blue interior. My next car will be a 69-74 Porsche. As a kid growing up in the 60’s and 70’s I always wanted one. The prices of those cars are very expensive now. The MG’s and Triumph’s give the best bang for the buck if you are interested in buying a vintage British sports car.

Hey Silent, may I ask what the LS1 swap cost in total? I have heard of a 850 r T5 engine swap. But that comes nowhere near the >400hp of the ls1. Someday I want to do the same. In doubt whether to go for the pimpin gold version or the legendary grey with black both with a crown on the back. It would be the classiest sleeper ever in my opinion. Well thought out build, the wheels and quiet exhaust, absence of kiddie flares scoops and cheap mufflers make this car awesome! Dont understand the hateful comments....must be miserable to be them! This is a proper LT swap...not cheap done right but will hold up over time

I wish it had the European headlights. I never knew there was a Bertone with the old taillights. That engine looks so modern for something that came out in 1975.

The perfect 240. Quiet enough to be convincing, practically indestinguishable visually from stock, and yet many times the original horsepower. I love it.

I've owned two MGB, GTs and now I'm gravitating more towards the Michelotti styling of the TR4 and its slower revving 2.1 liter engine.
