This is the same Vladimir Posner who, for decades, gleefully spouted Soviet doctrine on Radio Moscow. He was totally committed to Communist ideology. Only when the Soviet dictatorship began to crumble did Posner attempt to cover up his ultra-Soviet leanings. Only now does he spout that the Soviet Union was undemocratic, a totalitarian regime. He made his roubles promoting the 'ideals' of Communism and attacking the West. Beware this wolf in sheep's clothing!

Before openly working for Russian propaganda, Pozner looked much better. Arguments of mr. Pozner are proven to be wrong. Sweden, bordering Russia, is in NATO. Though it's not an existential threat. "Existential threat" is only Ukraine who could join NATO in next 10 years after the Russian attack. What mr. Pozner tries to tell is the great example of Russian pre-war propaganda: "Russia is a peaceful state, that's scared of NATO". Shame on you, baldie.

As a fan of Pozner, I find it disappointing that “the voice of reason” when it comes to the Russian mindset has chosen to stay silent about this horrific war in Ukraine.

If only people like Mr Pozner would represent the two countries, what a beautiful world we will be living in ... especially now, considering the war in Ucraine.

My father was Russian and Czech. His father left Russia during the revolution. I barely understood my Russian heritage until listening to Mr Pozner. I now have a need to gain a much clearer understanding of that heritage especially now that we could be facing war with Russia which in my estimation must clearly be prevented!

All his comments are food for thought, but look at China : every assistance given + lots of investment plus seat-at-the-table with WHO, Olympics etc yet still they push against India militarily and kick Vietnam off the Spratleys and now there is tension elsewhere in South East Asia. Its highly likely some kind of "Marshall Plan" in Russia would have same outcome as now with respect to the powerful classes taking all the benefits + aggressive Russian power projection, precisely because its driven by a geopolitical mechanism and not the actions of anyone else outside. Russia can't accept Ukraine being outside of it's influence. Its untenable because it completely ignores what Ukraine wants. This sadness about losing territory for Hawks in Russia would be true no matter how many Hershey kisses are sent from Brussels and Washington.

Vladimir Pozner is nothing more than a Kremlin mouthpiece. Every assertion that he made how the west created Putin is full of lies. He claims that Putin did not do anything to other countries is pure propaganda. Of course Russia did not invade or flex its false narrative against the west, Putin was busy creating alliances within the Russian military and destroying those who do not support him in the private sector. Pozner completely ignores the fact Putin jailed people who supported his political opponents. A perfect example would be the fabricated crimes against then oligarch, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, which put him in jail. Subsequently released on exile but then accused of masterminding the murder of Putin puppets, another fabricated lie. Lets not forget Chechnya. The move for independence of that country was crushed with a military offensive similar to what we are seeing in Ukraine. These are only a few examples of what Putin was doing prior to 2008 in Georgia. Pozner asks, why the west did not help Russia develop its democracy. It is impossible for a country to build a democracy without the support of its people. And Russians kept voting for Putin past his term limit.

In his Yale lecture he said something ridiculous which is that Putin asked to join NATO and the EU. They would never accept a country without free and fair elections where the opposition get murdered and tortured. The EU is also very pro LGBT and transgender rights. Russia would never meet their standards.
