My family lived behind The Uptown on 2242 North Carlisle Street. So as a kid growing up around there of course I seen a lot of shows there.
We use to stand in line from 9am to they opened at 1pm and we flew inside to get to the front row boy did we have fun in our navy blue Shells and white bell bottoms I can close my eyes and see us running I thank God 🙏 I was born in that era!!
Grew up going to the Uptown Theater and saw everybody there. Smokey Robinson, The Intruders, Delfonics, Sam Reed and his great orchestra, Joe Tex, The Mad Lads, Magnificent Men, Stevie Wonder, The Motown Revue, Billy Stewart. Bomaye !

They can but they won't. Alot of talk and promises these politicians keep saying it to dumb it down. Let's face it the UPTOWN would be great to get it rolling again. But to do that means to create jobs again and have small businesses hold there own again. Plus it's too close to Temple university where the students stay and intermix with the neighborhood. So it's a wait out process let's build things around the area but not just quite close just yet. It's all a plan believe me. What bothers me is that they can redo the Met Theater and the Lorraine Devine Hotel. But won't do the same to the UPTOWN. Because it's to North of Broad Street in the hood. Let's keep it real. And it doesn't fit the criteria of the plan for what the political stan point wants to do. It's just business not personal they say. I say it's bullshit if they wanted the UPTOWN back they can and would but wont.
Bring it back. I would love to experience history
