The children of the Czar were hungry for information about the prople. The daughters got to serve as nurses and not just fluff work. They got to see, help surgeons, suture wounds.... They developed crushes on the men. One fell in love with a soldier. The son would come to the hospital to ask questions about everything he could think of. Unfortunately the parents were self possessed, rigid, unyielding as the people starved. War was making the country impoverished, but Nicholas didn't care.
